Dale Farm Travellers Site

That is easily the most stupid post ever

Not at all, think about it. Eastside Urchin said that he used to rent space at the yard for his lorry and presumably left it there 365 days of the year, isn’t it a price worth paying for the peace of mind that it would be as safe as houses and, as he said, a goodwill gesture too, to keep on their right side, it’s not ‘paying these people money to avoid them stealing from us’ at all as Wealdstone Fan suggests

I though that paying income tax to finance our police force was how we are supposed to gain peace of mind, and free ourselves from criminality, and certainly not by giving hard earned cash to thieving pikeys as a goodwill gesture.

Are they?

Do you go around putting your caravan on somone elses land?

Do you not pay council tax?

Do you threaten others and throw hot tea in their face?

If you do then go and join them.

If you pay your way in life and pay your taxes etc., then the answer to your question is no.

I gather that the High Court are about to declare the beleaguered Travellers eviction from Dale Farm 'disproportionate and unlawful' and order a Judicial Review on the case which will secure them more time, watch this space:

I see the judge has given permission for the vast majority of pitches to be cleared - which must be great news for residents who have seen their properties become almost wortless thanks to these free-loaders. Of course these foreign citizens (most of them are Irish) will probably appeal again.

"A judge has ruled Basildon Council can remove caravans from 49 out of 54 plots at the Dale Farm travellers' site once outstanding legal issues are resolved.

The judge at the High Court told the council it could also remove the majority of concrete pitches on the site.

The ruling states however that walls, fences and gates should remain on site.

An injunction preventing any removal of travellers from the site is expected to remain in force until at least Tuesday.

During Monday's hearing, Basildon Council was seeking the lifting of an injunction put in place when the travellers brought their own legal case in a bid to avoid eviction as bailiffs prepared to move in.

The council had been ordered to provide detailed information on how it would approach the clearance of the site.

This was done and the council has now won a partial lifting of the injunction.

Residents have also made three separate applications for judicial review to stop the clearance of their homes, which are due to be heard later this week.

The council has been ordered to pay a third of the travellers' legal costs in relation to the injunction at the centre of Monday's hearing.

The authority has been attempting to remove travellers from the Dale Farm site for a decade. The site is on green belt land and is thought to currently house about 400 people on the pitches.

The clearance of the six-acre site was halted earlier this month when lawyers for the travellers obtained a High Court injunction preventing bailiffs moving in while the courts were asked to rule on several areas of contention.

The Court of Appeal previously ruled against the travellers on a human rights application in 2009."

read today that these travellers had receoved over £200,000 in legal aid!

Terrible waste of money

Agree it was a terrible waste of money, but justice has to be seen to fair, otherwise total anarchy will prevail. Lets all hope the eviction is a peaceful one with no one getting hurt, or worse.

Missunderstood - I heard that the travellers had buckets of human waste lined up ready and waiting to throw at the bailiffs two weeks or so ago when they were due to be evicted

Any person that does such a thing should be locked up for a very long time, assets they may possess sold to pay back to society all the unpaid taxes and national insurance they may owe, and then deported when their prison sentence has been completed.

Missunderstood - We're all entitled to our opinion and I respect yours however I don't have a great deal of time for bailiffs

Why is that? Surely they are only doing their job to carry out the wishes of the court, when the other party does not co-operate.

Ian - Surely you're not as green and naive as to believe that, bailiffs are more often than not unscrupulous ex-cons who get a kick out of using their heavy handed authority. Strangely enough the Ministry of Justice have recently announced plans to protect householders from bailiffs and the new rules will raise the level of bailiffs professionalism with the appropriate training and they will be required to pass certain qualifications in order to knock on doors. As you rightly say companies and Council's have a right to recover their debts but nobody should have the right to threaten, bully or intimidate, I wonder whether Keeps was a bailiff once out of interest.

Agree that not many bailiffs graduated from charm school, but to call them unscupulous ex cons is a bit strong as they have to be CRB checked prior to taking up their duties.

Can't believe that Rhodesy didn't know this since he is so intimately acquainted with bailiffs.

Yes but some will no doubt slip through the net or be in this Country on false documentation from Eastern Europe for example

Oh do me a favour,I know a few bailiffs and while they are nice enough people if you know them and stay on the right side of them,if you cross them then they are nasty people who can make your life a misery, that's why they are employed in the way they are.
