Dale Farm Travellers Site

Recommended Posts

It is being billed as ‘the battle of Basildon’ today but what do members think of the heavy handed eviction by bailiffs of some 400 peaceful travellers from an unused site, that was a former scrapyard, in Crays Hill near Basildon made up of around 80 families, many of which are elderly people including some cancer sufferers undergoing local hospital treatment:

Is this a discussion thread or a typical Rhodesy Thread where you throw your toys out if someone disagrees with you?

Anyway I hear they've won an injunction giving them another week so I expect they will be quite pleased to abide by that legal ruling, so when / if that is exhausted they should abide by any final legal ruling don't you think Rhodesy? Or is that not what civilised members of society do in this country?

Yes, that's great news isn't it, anyway with travellers such as the ones in this picture why on earth would the local male population want to get rid of them:

They are there illegally and should feel the full weight of the law!

I have to pay my council tax - bet they do not.

If they are travellers, why do they want to be static anyway????

I bet none of them pay tax on earnings or have legal jobs.

About time we stopped being a nanny state and got rid of them, after all they can always go back to Ireland, that is assuming the Irish will have them!

You muppet - most of those are outsiders who outnumber the residents.

Point that Rhodesy doesn't want to answer is that they've relied upon the law and even celebrated the decision giving them these extra few days and yet they will not abide by any final ruling as it must come that sends them on their way costing local rate payers £18m which surely Basildon needs spending on more important things which lets be honest the residents surely deserve.

Whatever your views, just remember that they will have one more card up their sleeve..

The European Court of Human Rights.

And you can bet they will get the funding to appeal to the ECHR, which will probably take about a year for the appeal to be heard.

Loosely – This is the sort of thread right up your street isn’t it where you can argue the toss until kingdom come and until the cows come home. You conveniently forget to mention the elderly cancer sufferers who are receiving ongoing treatment at nearby Basildon Hospital or couldn’t you care a less about them. Also Basildon Council weren’t obliged to spend 18m of their budget on evicting the beleaguered travellers, as you rightly say Basildon needs spending on far more important things which the residents of the run down town deserve, I couldn’t agree with you more on that valid point.

Perhaps Rhodes should contact the saintly travellers and help them find a suitable place to set up camp, very close to where he lives

Missunderstood – They’re not doing anybody any harm though and just minding their own business, you conveniently forget to mention the elderly cancer sufferers who are receiving ongoing treatment at nearby Basildon Hospital or couldn’t you care a less about them. Furthermore Basildon Council weren’t obliged to spend 18m of their budget on evicting the travellers, as Loosely rightly said Basildon needs spending on far more important things which the residents of the town deserve, I couldn’t agree with him more on that valid point.

Hadn't forgotten thanks Rhodesy, thats your bee under your bonnet but now you mention it these "sufferers" have known about this eviction for a long time and have had plenty of time to move into the alternative accommodation offered (which it has been). If your argument was that they were too ill to move I'd ask why was it that they managed to travel during the summer (which they did) on occasion and this spring when they travelled to Walsingham in Norfolk on pilgrimage (which they did) and yet you are suggesting that they cannot now (if you did try that tack, which you won't now because it's bunk).

Plenty of people suffer hardship Rhodesy but if we made that an acceptable argument for breaking the law everyone facing a conviction would be down the doctors for a note wouldn't they? Sure you can be sensitive but at the moment that doesn't cost you anything does it whilst it is costing every rate payer in Basildon on average £300 plus each when perhaps they could choose a better way to spend it.

You'll find that £18m will be a reasonable cost for policing and clearing the site Rhodesy, its not pleasant or nice work but then you've not put yourself forward for the job have you so you don't care what other people have to pay to cover it?

Now, is it ok for the travellers to abide by a legal injunction but not a legal eviction order? - I'll not hold my breath waiting for your answer because you've got none.

Whether its justified or not travellers have a dreadful reputation, and they are definitely not the sort of people that most of us would choose as neighbours. Anyone who lives close to the illegal site and wants to move now find themselves trapped because they are unable to sell their properties. Rhodes says they are not doing any harm, but the fact that they are making the residents of Clay Hills lives a misery, and costing each Basildon council tax payer a minimum of £300 each, because of their illegal tenure of Dale Farm suggest to me that they are doing a great deal of harm indeed.

I used to rent yard space for my lorry off a farmer who used to back onto their site. When I started renting there I was told to offer them £100 a year donation so they wouldn't syphon fuel from my lorry, they class it as a goodwill gesture.

The people get a bad reputation because they are bad, they are tinkers from Ireland, the worst type of gypsy, they give all gypsys a bad name and I will confidently say there is not one family on that site that is 100% clean when it comes to criminality. The petrol stations back in the late 90's & early 00's when I worked out there were petrified of them, their bosses used to say to not serve anyone with an Irish number plate but the workers were subjected to both physical and mental abuse. We really are dealing with low lifes.they give English gypsys a bad name

Eastside Urchin – Well what’s wrong with that, £100 a year is a cheap price to pay for the peace of mind and to be in their good books

That is easily the most stupid post ever. Perhaps Rhodes should spend £100 on a private consultation with a shrink, that really would be money well spent.
