How are Guernsey....................

What a load of old tosh, bookies are sensible people, name me another they sponsor.Maybe, maybe Sportingbet will get taken over, then your be up a canoe without a paddle. The way you are at the moment by my reckoning, your in profit already,as you do not pay your Players.Similiarly I thought the reason Guernsey F.C were formed, and it was written into their constitution was that Island Based players only would be selected. The test will come though when success is put above a Community,or EGO's.

Up a canoe?! Phrases mixed up there slightly smudge?

I don't think it is necessarily a constitution. The whole idea of the club was to give the elite island players the chance to test themselves at a higher level. I don't know the plan should thigns go so well that we shoot up the leagues like Wimbledon of FC United (something which may or may not happen). I guess it's also difficult to sign players from the UK as it is a whole lifestyle change for them, shifting familes, moving jobs etc so It would only be at such a high level that you could pay someone to do that. Maybe if Guenrsey got higher up they'd look to sign quality from the UK as long as the island keeps to its roots by maintaining a healthy core of local players

If things progress and a proper youth team is started that is also an option, because many clubs scout and recruit youth players locally so we could do that, with good coaching and learning from the first team hopefully many of them would be good enough to progress to the first team anyway. Hopefully Guernsey FC will drag the whol of our islands football up in standard. There is much more to aim for now, rather than how it used to be - half a dozen games for the island a season plus the odd island games. There is a real incentive now for players to get to a high level.

Guernsey hasn't produced that many pros but this venture could hopefully lead to a few more.

I think if you have a player on contract then a club would have to buy him out of the contract.

A few of the young good players at Cove a few years ago were put on contract for the reason if a club wanted them they would have to give the club a bit of money.

I wouldn't think by using just guernsey players they could get to the conference or at least I think that would be the very highest level that they could hope for but what's to say they don't uneartha few gems through any youth schemes they may have.

Saying that,I would expect them to go as far as they can with island players and if it proved say 5 years down the line that they could go no further then maybe then it's time to look as to whether they ditch the tradition.

The example people always look at is athletic Bilbao who play only basque born players although I believe now they play players who have basque links (maybe those whose parents have moved away).

For how many seasons will guernsey be paying for clubs to travel over. i am sure that once this stops, other clubs/leagues forums wont be as friendly. its all a bit of a jolly up at the moment. thats not to say that they are not good hosts.

I think they will always need to pay, just as local clubs have always paid travelling expense when entering the FA vase and county cups.
