How are Guernsey....................

Nearly 2 years.

Was there the same fuss when AFC Wimbledon came through CCL leagues as there is with the Guernsey saga? i say that cause surely they would of had bigger crowds and more exposure than Guernsey, also they had the players to back it up as proven by where they are now.

A key difference was that there wasn't a CCL forum in those days, something i'm thankful for looking back as we have some people who would make Guernsey Donkey look like an amateur ;) So we only had our own forum/guestbook back then to talk (argue) amongst ourselves with just a very few CCL people contributing. There was a Wallingford fan who became a bit of a regular, Matt Everard (when he was at Ash) and Wattsy when he was the Cove keeper. Can't honestly remember anyone else on there. Once we got to the Ryman which has a messageboard, that's when it hits home not everyone loves you!!

edit - and I remember there was a guy who played for Chessington & Hook used to come on there.

IF in a few tears we move up to a higher league, then hopefully we will leave CCL with good memories and made a few friends. As stated previously I think we are can make it to the Ryman league in a few years, but how long might survive up there is open to debate.

One thing is, GFC should always be grateful that the CCL were kind enough and had enough foresight to allow us to start our life with them. Less braver leagues would not have given us a chance.

I think guernsey will be in the football league in 10 years or less!

I believe there are nightclubs in London bigger than Guernsey, if they ever made it to the Football League which i highly doubt thier gate size wouln't be much bigger than what they get know.

They would never have a proper stadium either, as it is it's more of an athletics track than a footie Ground.

Its a shame because they would probably have the right structure for that to happen.

We had a crowd of 6,000 for the island games final in 2003, we had 3,000 when we played Everton in 1997 ( we lost 6-0 ), my dad also has told me of games vs Jersey with crowds of over 10,000 so Smudge you are not far off !

I could see us getting a a regular date of at least 3,000 if we go up a few divisions

I believe any senior club can buy a player

Urchin,

Is the CCL classed as ameuter or Semi ? the reason i ask about buying players is that i hear on the ole gripevine that Guernseys sponsors are gonna back them to the hilt ......money wise, not only travel and general sposorship but buying players.

Sportingbet are based in Guernsey and alledgely make 1.8m each weekend......im in the wrong job !!!!

What a load of old tosh, bookies are sensible people, name me another they sponsor.Maybe, maybe Sportingbet will get taken over, then your be up a canoe without a paddle. The way you are at the moment by my reckoning, your in profit already,as you do not pay your Players.Similiarly I thought the reason Guernsey F.C were formed, and it was written into their constitution was that Island Based players only would be selected. The test will come though when success is put above a Community,or EGO's.

Smudge, when you say your in profit.......is that Guernsey or Bedfont Sports ? like i have said in many post i have friends in Guernsey and wish them well.

And it's quite clear by the amount of post you make about Guernsey your a secret follower of them too, im sure the Guernsey supporters will be very happy when you come out the closet.
