How are Guernsey....................

Just a thought,

How are Guernsey perceived ?

I have read so many topics and post on this forum and they always by one way or other involve Guernsey to an extent.

Now i know we have a very passionate fan who post his confidence and dare i say it his arrogance about Guernsey and can get peoples backs up, but obviously truely loves his team.

On the other hand we have someone who knocks them at every oppertunity from small petty things to the larger grander scale without a hint of why !

I am slightly biased as i have friends on the Island and have indeed watched them on 3 occations, tw2ice here on the mainland and once over at Footes Lane.

(I would indeed suggest if you ever get the chance to go over do so) getting back to my point i am pleased they are in the CCL i have met the players in the bar after the game and they all come across as really nice people as are thier followers and staff.

What are everyone else's thoughts ?

Not being funny but its obvious from the millions of guernsey posts how everyone feels about them. Love them or hate them everyone is allowed a opinion.

Oi Oi Saveloy,

your quite right obviously people who love them are from Guernsey or Ex-Pats living on the mainland or some connection, but the one's who hate them is it down to Posters who wind everyone up or something the club has said, done or stand for !

To be honest, i'm fairly neutral on the whole Guernsey FC thing. Nothing against them, not particularly excited about them either, although I wish them well. The gripe I do have is that every day on here now is groundhog day as the same stuff/arguments about Guernsey FC seem to come up day after day. Just becomes a bit tiresome really.

Also, it's difficult to see Guernsey becoming a Football League side unless they cease to only use players from the islands. I know from experience just how many players Wimbledon have got through in 9 seasons (well actually i've long since lost count!). Every step up is different and needs another standard of players (to an extent anyway) and most seasons have seen a large number of changes to playing personnel. This season is probably the first that there hasn't been and time will tell if that proves to be a wise move or not. We only have Sam Hatton remaining as a first team regular who was with us in the Ryman Prem days and I don't think we had any of the CCL Players still with us when we reached the Ryman Prem.

No one hates anyone on this Forum lets get that straight for starters. But arrogance is another matter, take the Guernsey F.C. site report on the C.B. Hounslow game, quoted as a DEMOLITION JOB score 4-0.Respect from your opponents and Fans is not gained that way. When we had Whitley Bay supporters on here for 2 F.A. Vase games against Chertsey the banter was brilliant.Even though most people on here were not Chertsey Fans most got involved in support of the C.C.L. side.

Smudge,

It sounds like thier repoter getting carried away rather than the Club itself, im sure if you met the players and staff you might see them in a different light.

Please don't take this as me fighting there corner so to speak but all the clubs Guernsey have played against they have had nothing but praise for the club its players and officals.

At the end of the day we all have our personal opinons and everyone must respect that.

Regards

TRS,

Agreed Guernsey will not progress with the current bunch of players, they are good at this level but like it or not they will have to sign / buy players in the future.

Smudge, if you believe that the people behind GFC are arrogant, then I'm afraid you couldn't be more wrong. I agree that certain posters on this site come across that way and have given us a bad name. G.D. And the seemingly retired Gsy Guru are largely to blame here. Many people who have met the GFC officials and players have been most complimentary. The arrogant site report that you mention is copy and pasted (with permission) from the local press, and not written by a GFC official. I understand that you are looking out for the established CCL clubs and that you are often a voice of reason, but to dislike the Guernsey team because of arrogance is a little unfair and to be honest ill informed.

But I was of the understanding that Guernsey F.C. Constitution states resident Guernsey Players only.So how can you sign/buy players in the future, when this affects their Muratti Cup status.Which all islanders support. You have a great business model though, run by very Professional people. All the Guernsey people that I have met and talked to1 to 1have been polite and courteous.you should trawl back before Guernsey F.C. were elected where i said ''Turkeys were voting for Christmas''if you were elected into the C.C.L.i was slated for that also. But in 2 years time I will be proved right, when your no longer with us.I think the only thing that Guernsey have done wrong is not inviting a C.C.L. SIDE for a pre-season game.

So maybe the person who posted it on your site, should of read it first.

After receiving our opening day whopping we were all really impressed with how we were treated in Guernsey by the staff and everyone involved with Guernsey. We chatted with some of the players who were all good lads and treated us with respect. They made sure we got food before them after game and wished us luck when we left. It’s a shame more teams aren’t like that!

Unfortunately for them though its people like Guernsey donkey who are the only ones who are making people think different against the club! There are lots of readers on this forum and I’m guessing everyone who reads the normal “Guernsey will win 5/6 nil easily” comments will just want to beat the club even more. Shame really.

I have posted many times what a breath of fresh air Guernsey are to the CCL and what they have done to promote and highlight the CCL in the media.

Have I not said that before ! I presume that Guernsey have the pick of the whole Island to play for them, so in theory they should have the best Guernsey based players.

I have seen them 3 times, and based on these viewings, my opinion is that they should walk the CCL Prem Div 1 (no disrespect meant to the other clubs). However I personally believe they will find it much harder in the CCL Prem next season which will be a good leveler. Should they get promoted then, and only then, we will see if these current bunch of players are good enough to play at a higher Ryman/Southern League level, .......but what league would they go in ?

Again, my personal opinion, there are a few of their current squad who are good enough for Step 4 BUT what happens to those positions who are not whilst having the cream of the Island ? I believe eventually this may prove a problem, so one has to consider mainland players, now that in itself is another step that Guernsey will have to consider, so we will see.

With regards to the comments, what do Guernsey bring to the party ? Professinalism in the way they conduct themselves and of course their style of football........simples ! Good team, good to watch, there will be more visits made by me throughout the season.

Just a quick thanks to Guernsey FC. Thank you for your comments, it would be a pleasure and glad to assist.

FOR GAWD'S SAKE !!!!

I have enough of this Guernsey bashing ! It's nothing short of a playground spat.

New boy gets put into the school play-ground at the beginning of term. The bullies decide to take the new boy on.

Guernsey applied to join the CCL.

They were accepted !

END OF !!!!

Until very recently, I tended to think the CCL was one of the friendliest Leagues in the Non-League.

Now, I'm not so sure. Even Romford and Hornchurch didn't get this vitriolic, and that's saying something.

GET A FEKKIN LIFE, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE !

A whale of a bite B.J.R,I Resent the bullying remark,no one has bullied anyone.Am honestly getting fed up myself with being called a bully, firstly Bomaya put up a white flag accusing me of being a bully, then left when I disproved it.Now your goodself saying Guernsey are being bullied, what utter drivel.
