Question: when as a club, you contact guernsey fc about travel arrangements, does the club have to give people's names or just numbers of people when travelling? I have a follow up question when this is answered by someone.

All and every Guernsey supporter that come to Meadowbank to play Bookham can be sure of a very warm welcome to the ground.

I'm usually at Bookham home games, as an Official of Dorking FC, just to check that everything runs OK.

Any Guernsey supporters/posters on here that will be making the trip to Dorking, please let me know in advance and I'll make sure you are well looked after.

My passion for Guernsey goes back many years when I started visiting relatives there for the summer school breaks.

Newby,

As i have said i have friends from Guernsey and the CCL1 is all they talk about and seem honoured to be in the League, they don't want special treatment as in over exposure or a break during the festive period.

Its not the club doing this they just want the same treatment as all other clubs , i feel they are getting a hard time for matters out of thier control.

VR don't worry, it's only a hard time if Guernsey FC wants it to be. Just let them carry on being welcoming, polite and professional in their outlook, people will come round eventually........ !

I think you have to give the names in advance JJ but can be changed up to a point.

Can I just add though, I wanted my family to travel over by Ferry as flying out would cost too much. The only ferries from Portsmouth arrive at Guernsey 1710, unless travelling on a Friday they would miss the game. No ferries travelling back on Sunday either so just not practical!!! Sorry Guernsey FC but this has been a downfall for me.

I think it's the fact we are our own Island, the first to be accepted into the English Pyramid system, the fact we pay a fortune a season to bring away teams over etc, the fact one of the greatest players to grace the Premier League is involved with us, we are an intriguing story. There was an article about us in the September 2011 edition of FourFourTwo

I must be wrong as I thought the whole league had a Christmas break. that does seem a bit strange. The only way I could justify it right now would be to say we are ahead on games on a few teams already so that could be "games in hand" time. I guess that's not great reasoning though. I can't think why, I guess everyone should be equal in respect of fixtures

well this 'up to a point' business is where my question was going.

Before i comment more on the subject above......

I am all for the Guernsey team coming into this league. Until Afc Wimbledon came into our league, the league was boring and the same old same old teams were at the top for many a year. It was a breath of fresh air and a chance for crap players like myself to taste the atmosphere and excitement that a large crowd and pressure brings to a player. I loved playing in front of 4000 passionate opposing supporters. It tended to bring the best out in me!

The league got some great coverage and I am privilidged to know that I was a part of the era when Afc were formed and a part of their history.

As much as I am loving Chertsey and the perks of playing at step 4, I would love to have been part of the CCL this season and looking forward to the journey to Guernsey with my mates (like a mini holiday playing footy), playing in front of the biggest crowd of the season and even getting the chance to put a dent in their title and promotion hopes. Each team that plays at Guernsey must have no problems raising their game in the hope that they are to be the first team to beat them.

Back to my question.....

I see a negative side to the travelling team when visiting Guernsey that has not been brought up yet. If you have to confirm with Guernsey fc your selected names for the flight then surely that gives the opposition (Guernsey) an advantage in already knowing who your selected 14/15 will be. For example, If you have a star striker that cannot make the journey, and Guernsey have pre knowledge of this then it can change the way Guernsey set up for their match.

Also, what if at the last minute (eg; Saturday morning)) your star striker falls ill and cannot make the journey. In an ideal world you could make a phone call and drag someone in last minute. Would you be able to do a change of names on the flight at the last minute?? Who would you call to make that change if you could? Who would pay the charges for a last minute name change?

It seems to me that a team travelling to Guernsey have the odds stacked against them, thus giving Guernsey the advantage and a better chance of winning.

This doesnt change my view on allowing them into the CCL. I think it is a good thing and all that get to play there should enjoy it to the fullest and give it your best shot!

Local league games have been £3 for a long time. Recent support showed the cost of living was at least 20% higher here than the uk. Smudge is the only person to complain about the £5 for a seat with no concessions and he's never been to a home GFC game to the best if my knowledge! Next home match is 99% sold outvin the stand, so locals can't be too bothered!

John, the reason for having to give the names is because you have to supply names in advance to the airline.

To the poster complaining about ferry times.... Condor are a law unto themselves! We have no control over them

I knew the reason for giving names as this is standard procedure at airports but my point is that travelling clubs are at a disadvantage as last minute call ups for players is probably impossible due to the airline not being able to change names at the last minute.
