Ah well, now we are out of the cup...

what we learned from tonight: Haddow and Bartley were liabilities (giving the ball away and lack of defensive awareness), Hyatt can't last 45 minutes at this level let alone 90. Fozzy had a mare, but the rest of the team did their best against a well organised Welling outfit. The holes are there Eddie and will Deaner provide the cash to fill them???

Yes we need to concentrate in the league too....

12 place today...with some games in hand...but we need to get back in the race sooner than later...so not a bad thing....at least we were the last local team to go out ! and we did play 4 fa cup matches a lot more than others....

The second goal just before half time killed us off. Rather than try to be flash Haddow could have kicked the ball out for a throw and seen us to half time. As it was a sloppy clearance led to them scoring within 15 seconds. In the second half Welling set their stall out well, which was to stop us getting anywhere near their area and it worked well. As Liam said, Foster had a mare and gave their striker and empty goal to aim at which he wasn't going to miss. These things happen, but they seem to happen to us quite a lot (remember Zepherin!) The fourth was a result of everybody charging forward trying to get Slough back in the match but by then it was too late.

We didn't kill off the game on Saturday and tonight, despite being under strength, thought we did really well in the first half and 1-1 would have been a fair reflection. The goal before half time was a sucker punch and Miller hobbling off following Booty on Saturday is bad news, so its fortunate we don't have a match for a few weeks.

Well done to everybody who went to the game, we gave the lads good support and the applause they got at the end of the game was exceptional in spite of the defeat. Equally, well done to the players for clapping the supporters.

Its a couple of weeks until our next fixture, lets get our players back to fitness and pick up our league form. We're already a long way behind but the form shown in the first match against Welling, and the first half last night showed that we can play.

Such a shame really, we played them off the park the majority of Saturday and we looked as if we had picked up where we left off last night in the first half. That Miller goal was just the start we needed after 6 mins, and IF ONLY Glen Knight hadn't pulled off that point-blank save after Miller's brilliant touch, turn and snap shot. Would have put us 2-0 up and in control. But this was a good Welling team and it was only really a matter of time before they scored, and they always looked more likely in the second half when Miller limped off. Whilst Welling deserved to win though, 4-1 flatters them a bit, because the last two were scored in the last nine minuted, one from a defensive howler and the other as we were pushing forward. I still think we should have won at least 2-0 at Stag Meadow but now let's look forward to pushing for top 6 in the league (we can't win it IMO) and a decent Trophy run.

I'm not nearly as gutted as i thought i would be about going out of the FA Cup. Maybe that's because i reckon the first 30 minutes were the best i've seen Slough play this season IF only a couple more of those chances had gone in.

We played Welling off the park at times in the last couple of games and as i made my lonely way back to the station a couple of Welling fans said we'd given them a really good game of footie and couldn't believe we were so low down the league.

The cliche of 'let's concentrate on the league' is a sound one this time - we've got to finish in the top six and make our way back to the conference and back to decent grounds and crowds.

Give me Welling away over Egham Town any time.

Although very disappointed, I thought we played very well in spells last night (particularly the first fifteen minutes) against a well organised Welling side who I'm sure will be top 6/8 in Doc Martens. With Steer and Howard operating in wide areas we now have the width that has been lacking. However, in a game where we were never going to have that many chances you do need to convert those that present themselves - perhaps we need to be a bit more direct at times ? I stood with the Welling supporters for the last five minutes - you'd have though they'd won the cup given their reaction at the final whistle. If we can play like that week in week out we should fear no one in the Ryman South.

I really cannot believe Bartley was chosen ahead of Adrian Brown. Bartley has been poor every time he has played. As was said, no defensive awareness and he can't even hoof the ball, half the time he ends up slicing it so it goes straight up rather than go forward.

We really missed the spine of the team - Gyoury (injured?) in defence, Barrowcliff (work commitments?) in midfield and of course Tony Boot, who was tactically taken out on Saturday. That said, we looked superb in the first fifteen minutes and even for ten minutes after Welling equalised. I suspected that with a weakened team and players likely to flag (Hyatt), we needed to score a second. It just didn't come.

I can't complain about the ref too much because he let us off the hook a few times. Truly awful to both teams.

1v4 did flatter Welling. They looked a little more organised and did dominate the latter proceedings, but then had to rely on a goalkeeping howler from the usually solid Foster.

I'm glad we have a couple of weeks off to get some players back and make an assault on the League. And perhaps add a couple of players to the squad? You can't tell me there aren't players out there better than Bartley who have been released in the summer or are on the periphery of other squads.

We'll see (IN TWO WEEKS)
