My views on the Ash v Croydon game.Firstly well done to Ash,nice set up,decent Friendly people.I must say ash, ash, ash ash was in decent voice, pleasure to meet him also. The night got off to a decent start, hot dog,2 coffees, and a chat with the Match Referee Mr.Freddy Collins.Who reliably informed me that the Refs on Prem games had been cut from 46 to 36,so at least they would get more regular games. But then he dropped a Bombshell, that Smudge had already worked out himself, that only Step 4 Refs will officiate the middles in Guernsey, this has been agreed by the C.C.L and the F.A.BUT SURELY THIS IS SHOWING DISRESPECT to Step 5 Refs who regularly officiate at C.C.L. 1 Level.who as things are going, will never get the chance to Ref. in Guernsey,as and when they are promoted. It is also showing disrespect to all C.C.L.1 Clubs in my opinion, because what they are admitting is that they, do not trust the Officials at Step 5 to have good performances officiating in Guernsey,as it may show the League in a bad light.BUT IT IS OKAY FOR THE REST OF C.C.L.1 to have Step 5 Officials week in week out,how hypocritical is that.Maybe Mr. Stuart Collins or Mr.Alan Constable would like to comment on these remarks, after all the League is supposed to look after every Clubs interests,as that iswhat they pay for as Members surely.I will comment tomoz on what was probably the most inept Refereeing performance I have seen in 2 years watching C.C.L.

Well the morning after the night before.Mr. Collins informed me pre-match that he ad been given the game at late notice,Mr. Mays had originally been given the game.He was also explaining how he was adopting a talk to players more approach, than dishing out cards at every opportunity.Great I thought, and he proved it in the very 1st minute.Ash had a strike on goal, defender tries to block, hits arm,Penalty.Did he book him NO,did he talk to him NO.The half passed without any further incidents.Thought to myself well done Mr. Collins. The 2nd half was completely different, and maybe it had something to do with him being cleaned out by the Ash defender and laying prone on the ground for 5 mins.Several mysterious decisions were given by him and cards were flying like confetti, his tone of voice and aggression towards players was poor, some of his decisions were laughable,Croydon keeper comes for a cross, gets a clear punch on the ball, through players,Penalty.Croydon forward clean threw last man by a mile takes him out, free kick, but No Card. But he saved the best till last,he awards Ash a freekick, then proceeds to run back to the half way line, with his back to play, ash player takes it,it hits Croydon player 3 yards away.He then awards a free kick to Croydon and books the Ash player. Was he concussed maybe he was,but if he was not give the game up mate,7 bookings I counted,so know doubt the extra fine will kick in.Finally thanks Mr Collins for ruining my evening, please give the game up.

PLEASE remember when you read smudges comments. that he praises officials more on here than most. so before the ref contigent close ranks. think, was you there. it might just be true. although there was a croydon side involved, i think smudge is saying he was bad both ways.

Smudgeyboy, IF the above comments are correct, the reasoning behind the decidion could be that any inexperienced referee could be intimitaded by the large amount of spectators (+1500) for example the opposing keeper which you have mentioned in previous posts, so in theory, would it be fair for him to ref the game as this could give him a lack of confidence for his immediate future games ? In my opinion, in such a scenario, an expereinced ref would be prefered.

Smudge, it was great to meet you & will repay the drink on the next occasion, sorry could speak longer but had to do the after game jobs.

Thought it was a close game with our first 20minute football some of the best so far. Croydon came back into the game strongly & got a deserved equaliser. The 2nd pen i could see the holding but also see the keeper getting fouled so that just a referee decision to give it to us. I thought the only thing you got wrong was it wasnt our player taken the ref out it was the ref taken our player out lol. However like you said from there on the game went badly out of hand & i can understand why your players got heated, but like we all say, the ref not going to change his mind so players have just got to bit their tongue & save themselves at least £10 for a boooking

but good luck in the rest of the season & see you in a month's time for the league cup game

Correction to the original Referee it was Mr Oakes not Mr. Mays. The hardest part for me was seeing a Croydon Stalwart who works tirelessy for the Club, not going into the Boardroom after the game,as he was so upset with the Referee's performance, that he thought it wise not to.The same person was offered a lift back to Croydon by the Referee pre match, but instead took the Train.Aupostie/DT10 thanks for your comments,I was due a bad one anyway, but reading the Ash programme thats 3 on the spin for them.Look forward to the return at the Arena.

Just to clarify a point in your original post - Steps refer to the level of football (CCL Prem is Step 5), Levels refer to the classification of referees in terms of the games they could be allocated (Level 4 referees can do Step 5 games and below in the middle and games at Steps 4 and 3 as an Assistant Referee).

And if you look at the televised Championship games, more often than not they will have " Prmiership" officials.

Having checked, some level 5 referees have already been refereeing Guernsey home games.

Mewey, the Refs so far have been G.Mays,C.Readett,R.Hailstone,all I think you will find are LEVEL 4 Referees, just because they do other Div 1 games, does not make them Level 5 Referees.Or maybe they have stepped back this year?I think you will find they have not.

Smudge, Richard Hailstone is now a Level 5. Was a Level 4 last season though
