New Hertford Town Manager....

Recommended Posts

Hi

"Love the Game" and "nonpareil", may your wish come true (if that is what Scott wants!).

If not I was impressed by John (Barker) and if supported by a good coach to help him get his ideas from the Training Ground to the pitch, will make a good Manager for the future.

However, as "Chinola" pointed out, aportioning credit to Mike Varney was misguided as I understand that he clearly expressed his opposition to any such meeting to the committee before he went away and felt that the situation regarding the players concerns over the Vase Game had been quickly addressed and put to bed.

Indeed, if the messages that Matt has received from the Players on announcing his departure were to be published, this would be the only conclusion one could come to.

But the situation did noy go away and I know Matt was disapointed to hear about this time last week, that a member of the Coaching Staff was having ongoing discussions with a committee member about holding Thursdays Meeting in Mike's absence.

Im not sure how quickly Rat's type, but it cant be much slower than me, so unless he has been scared off, we may hear some more news soon.

P.S. I know my grammer/spelling has not suddenly improved, so has anyone seen Jonno, Im getting worried for him.

It was interesting to see in two weeks how a team that played some good football (and were capable of beating anyone on their day) went to utter crap playing long ball.

Scott O'Donoghue left the club because apparently the chairman was interfering with the way he wanted the team to play and putting pressure on him. Is it possible to think that Matt Allen was told how to play by the chairman again, this time without the pressure? It is only a guess but it would seem plausible given the complete turn around in style, unless of course this was Allen's style and the chairman chose him for that very fact.

Now Allen has gone I wonder if they will get in another hoof merchant or someone that will work to the players strengths and get the confidence back in defence!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fairness Trippy, that coaching member was actually approached by the board. I know this first hand and there is a text message to prove it. The coach was accused by the manager and chairman of asking the board for a meeting with him and the captain of the team...this isn't true, they were were both asked to attend the meeting by a committee meeting.

It is all very tense at the club at the moment and the sooner things calm down the better - a nice trip away to Dunstable tomorrow should help that! :)

Next rumour......Varney has supposedly walked....although this wasn't from Roland the Rat, one of his apprentices..

Matt Allen was part of Glen's coaching team at Ware - they played decent football.....you may therefore be right in your guess

To be honest Chinola I never saw Ware play with Alzapiedi in charge so I have nothing to compare it to.

Fair enough Chinola,

I too hope things calm down now,

My last wish would be that people finally gave up on this long ball crap. I would love to try and explain!

The players misunderstood what Matt was asking them to do, which was not to play the ball about at the back (ironically the thing that caught us out against Oxhey Jets!) but after the first sideways pass to move the ball forward. This was understood as hoof it forward, when it was meant to be move the ball forward. The idea was not to get caught in possession at the back and get the ball to the more attacking players as quickly as possible. This could just as easily mean Midfield players!

It was not the Players fault that this was this misunderstanding and as we all know they were not happy after the game.

This was discussed with all of the Players on the next tuesday training session and accepted by them. ALL conversations after that regarding the style of play were directed to playing the type of football they and the crowd enjoyed.

There can be no confusion about that and I would be amazed if any player would say otherwise.

If that is how people thought we palyed against Oxhey Jets, I would have to say that there must have been other reasons for the display on the day.

Regarding Mike's influence on the Team. I cannot say what made Scott decide to leave, but would accept that he would not give up all he had built lightly, but certainly in the infamous 10 days I was there I did not see Mike discuss the Team with the Manager, AND I know Matt would not let him influence him anyway.

Hopefully Matt will be given an opportunity soon to show the type of Team he is capable of building and Hertford get back to winning ways and this all becomes a long distant memory

Does this mean a return for you to the club then?

Taken from the Mercury:

My resignation from Hertford Town FC came about as a result of the decision made by the committee in my absence to sack Matt Allen, the manager after just two games in charge," he told the Mercury.

"The committee arrived at the decision as a result of several players threatening to leave the club. I feel that the committee should have taken a stance against the player's threat and if necessary to have fielded a weakened team in order to give Matt an opportunity to bring new players to the club. To give in to player pressure indicates a lack of ambition for the future of the club."

A brave/calculated decision by the committee - presumably they must have been aware that MV would walk. So perhaps he wasn't making any financial difference to the club - or then again maybe it was a bit more fundamental than that !

I'm still here trippy!! And your spelling is wonderful!! Yes NF, pretty excited about Saturday's result. Thoroughly deserved and a huge boost after not the best start to the league campaign. However I'm confident in the squad and the gaffer and I'm sure we will have a good season. Long way to go. Bethnal Green in the next round. Stab vest on order.....

Let's hope so. I always enjoyed my visits to Hertford Town in the past, nice friendly club.

Exactly Karen :) that is one thing that was missing over the last couple of weeks. Everyone seemed unhappy, players, fans and committee. Maybe we know now what was causing it.

rumours are that kevin christeau was at the ground saturday and has applied, lets hope the board see through that one like royston and st mags because there is a man with a big red nose and curly wig and flower that squirts water if ever ive seen one !!

I think everyone would like to see Scott back .....failing that then the caretakers from pre Matt Allen would also be a sensible option. I think it needs to be someone with some effinty to the club to understand and respect how this club works and the atmosphere it creates ...as Matt Allen and Mike Varney failed to realise.

Mr Tripp your clearly missing the point if you think this was all to do with tactics if you re-read an early post from myself you will see comments he was heard making in the bar of our 'family' club. and as a hard working paying supporter that is a complete lack of respect for those around you.
