Margate 0 Hendon 2 - Site updates

Correct. I don't think you can blame the ref for the result or the decision. I think he was probably slightly more competent at his job than any of our players were at theirs, with a couple of exceptions. Although I do understand your point, I think its a different discussion altogether - should those be given as penalties. I have no doubt that if that if the tables were turned, we would have been awarded it also.

Funnily enough when I saw Hendon last Sunday there was an incident when Ngoyi was twisting and turning in the box and a Lewes defender was holding his shirt. Ngoyi stayed on his feet and got a cross in but then Junior Lewis on the Hendon bench called out to Ngoyi and did the diving gesture with his hands several times. The player was left under no illusion about what was expected of him. This, of course, is not to criticise Hendon - cheating has always been part of the game and always will be. I've never seen a set of fans anywhere refuse to cheer when their team gets a dubious penalty.

What a crock of poo, both sides were dreadful just playing head tennis and hoof the ball up the pitch if it comes anywhere near you.

Where i was standing it actually became funny and many of the crowd were laughing at how inept the players on both sides were.

The amount of times the margate players knocked the ball on without looking was embarrassing, have they being instructed to do this?

Why didnt anyone control the ball/ take it down then look for options?!!!!!!!!

Your right Benjamin & I dont think anyones saying otherwise in truth. The team certainly didnt deserve the 3 points but neither did our opponents. A 0-0 scoreline looked a certainty & it should have been that because up until the penalty neither side looked like scoring even if they played for anther hour. A 0-0 scoreline would have reflected dire performances from both sets of players & been a just result.

That one refereeing decision that I was referring to wasn't to push the entire blame onto the refereee for our loss but it was certainly & obviously a massive contributary factor at that late stage.

These home performances need massive improvement otherwise the crowd numbers will plummet even further than they did yesterday & thats no good for anyone.

500 last home game-poor performane.Yesterday we lost 130 of those for various reasons but mainly because the players are not only getting results but not putting in decent performanes over the full 90 minutes.

Next home game the attendance will plummet even further & I reckon we'll be lucky to get 250.

We need to win our games at home or at the very least have us going away saying "we lost but played really well & didnt deserve to lose". See people come running back then but give more dire performances like these & we'll be struggling to pay their wages & then what? Away form needs to come home pretty quickly.

After a couple of days of stewing, just got in and re-read the topic. Although my point of view has not changed, I think 'patience' is the key word here.

Only a couple of years ago we were in meltdown on and off the pitch with spending out of control and winding up petition after winding up petition. It may not seem like it, but we have come along way - Stadium approved, CE on commercial side, CK back as manager.

I guess that, if you forget the last couple of games last year, the manager many people have wanted back for a few years now has only had a handful of games.

This has renewed my enthusiasm to turn up next time round. I mean, if a woman can go through labour and still want another child, I'm sure I can go through 90 minutes of pain once a fortnight until things improve.... The two things are vary comparable, I'm sure.

Trouble is things are looking very similar to last season in many ways & we ended up with low attendance figures later in the season. It will happen again (which we can ill afford) unless they buck their ideas up on the pitch,at home (especially). We are once again lacking consistency all round but more importantly,at home & that is imperative i.m.o.

Anyway, changing the subject sligthl, here are some interesting facts. I've just seen this courtesy of a lad on the Hendon forum and am going to look for odds on a penalty against us in the return match at Hendon.

Margate's spot of bother with us

I am not sure what to make of this statistic, and if any referee reads this, then we probably won't get another spot job against Margate again in my lifetime...

We have been awarded a penalty in all of our last five matches against Margate. In fact, we have had a total of six in those five games, all of which were taken by Jamie Busby. His record is only 3 from 6.

In 2009/10, his missed spot kick came at 0-0 down in what turned out to be a 2-1 defeat at Vale Farm (a double save - blocking the first effort and the rebound - by Paul Nicholls), and his successful attempt (preceded by a red card for a Gate defender) made it 1-2 in the freezing fog at Hartsdown Park, but we went on to win 3-2.

Last season, at Hartsdown Park, Busby hit the crossbar when we were trailing 1-0, but did score the late equaliser in a 1-1 draw. In the insanity that prevailed in the return match at Vale Farm, Buzza made it 2-2 with his first spot-kick, once more after the visiting No.2 had been dismissed for deliberate handball preventing a goalscoring opportunity, but then, at 3-2 down (the final score), he saw his second attempt saved by Jamie Turner (it should said in this match, there were three penalties and three red cards - and none were remotely controversial).

Now the run has continued with the kick at Hartsdown Park. Based on the previous five kicks, Busby should have been expected to miss, because his other successes had come only when the Margate No. 2 received a red card conceding the penalty!!

I know, I should stay in more.

yes totally agree the home form does need to improve and quick to keep the attendences up. I think if we had won with 2 dodgey goals this chat would not be happening at present, but that's football and $..t happens. I think people thought we were going to start on a high after the PSF and with the players brought in and yes it's nice to be optimistic but you need to be realistic to, we are no way the finished product just yet.....

Been away without computer access for a few days in Kent -and managed to take in saturdays game.

I fully expected to read posts saying that apart from the two poor goals conceded-we dominated and should have won'so pleased that most people saw it like me-and frankly-i did'nt think we deserved to win-and like others-thought it poor all round-and worrying for the future.

I've seen us lose 4-0 and think-well -we lost but there is something there.

On saturday-i thought there was 'nothing there'and am genuinely concerened for rest of season.

Unless we win on saturday-frankly as others allude to with regards to attendances-our 'season' could effectively be over by 17th September.

we will win saturday- very doubtful imo given the resources to hand.

I predicted 13th in prediction league-and that was like others bouyed with optimism at the start of the season-had i been predicting today-i'd go for 18th-don't think we will be relegated-but that team will not this season do much better than that.

Its not a criticism-as fully appreciate its work in progress -but we will struggle this season.

That given-i don't think it would take much to improve things-it needs that quality and experienced midfield player imo.

Just wish club could get a three month loan player in-maybe an experienced league player trying to regain fitness-at least it may help 'kick -start 'us again.

I don't but into the 'time to gel ' stuff-yes time brings improvement-and indeed it will-but the same applies to all teams-and Hendon have had more changes in the summer than we have !!

I though Clokes leadership qualities were missed on saturday.

Midfield not creating anything-can't blame the strikers-it all starts in midfield-and midfield still playing all ok as individuals -but not functioning as a midfield uniot-no leader in midfield -which is sorely required.

I thiink we could still be playing today-and would not have created any chances-huffing and puffing-but nothing else.

Unless there is a breath of fresh air-the inexperience in midfiled will become even more noticeable as the pitches/weather/conditions deterirate.

Defence is ok-but midfield needs adjustment.

I agree with CK that on saturday-the penalty incident totally changed the game-but even had we have won 1-0-yes obviously happier, but the medium term problems were there to see regardless.

Not normally as harsh as this-and expectations are purely mid table-but from what i saw saturday-another relegation battle looks more likely.

Don't blame the keeeper at all-if we had created the chances-those sort of things don't happen.

Comparing the players who were on the pitch on Saturday with the previous meeting between the sides towards the end of last season, there were only two Margate players who were involved in both games (Robinson and Bradbrook). Hendon had seven players who were involved in both games.

I agree with CK that on saturday-the penalty incident totally changed the game.

I don't, we were pants before the penalty and we were pants after the penalty :-)

But all things considered the club appear to have a much brighter future than we did a couple of years ago and i'll still keep turning up.

Had a few days from saturday to reflect and get over the defeat.Yet i still look forward to met police tomorrow with enthusiasm!

The game on saturday was not pretty but never was going to be in that wind.If you stood at hartsdown road end there was no wind but complete opposite at the other end .if you did not move then difficult to appreciate the conditions.it was a lot of the long ball but in the first half there was only gate trying to play football. In an ideal world all football would be on the floor but teams and conditions dictate otherwise even for the likes of Arsenal! i thought in the conditions the back fouir did well and attacked everyball. If the other team play it in the air then they have to deal with it! Hendon certainly had no finesse about them!I would not change the back four and thought ball and hill did well.My MOM was Corneille who i gave it to at Horsham as well. harsh to criticise bradbrook who works hard but we just did not get down the side of them which Bodkin and Robinson need to more often.I thought Stubbs was effective but not a lot any of the midfield could do if the ball goes over their heads to the back four. For the record i think CK has a find in Avely who wins a lot of the nonsense balls and does the stuff that is not always seen.He has been one of the first on my team sheet since he started this season.

The problem sadly i see is Smelt. He is indecisive coming off his line and shown poor judgement on crosses. The second goal as has been said would have been laughed at on jacky bakers. If the defence is not secure in their keeper they will play with the perception that they have less time and hence the quick hoof up etc.i wish jack well but am not sure he is up to what the blues require.Mind you a good game tomorrow night and some confidence will help.

the lads have shown in patches what they can do and with time to gel i remain optimistic ( if realistic ) for the season

all off my chest now so see evreyone at met police!!
