What a disappointment. Yet again we come up against a promotion contender and yet again we are comfortably beaten.

Refereeing - poor. Distribution - dreadful. Leadership - non-existant. Forwards who couldn't hit a barn door. Players at each other's throats.

We missed NBH today and it showed - the defence was a shambles. We dominated possession yet never looked like scoring.

Not impressed!

Let's not panic just yet, looking at today's other results, the league is going to be wide open again... St Neots and Aylesbury got hammered 4-1, Daventry lost 4-2 and Bedworth lost 2-1... We weren't great but if I'm honest I expected us to struggle to create anything after viewing Rugby's defensive play last season, we won't be the last team to struggle up there and I can see Rugby pushing for the title.... 35 games to go and 3 points needed against Barton on Tuesday!!!

Cookham Rebel - I take it by your comments that you were not at todays "game" as yet again Bateman put out a side of his favorites and failed to have any imagination with the substituions or provide any leadership from the bench.

How the hell does Stuart Swift make it into the starting 11 - it is questionable if he is even worth putting on the bench - but as he is one of Batemans "boys" he starts nearly every game and then goes on to put shots well wide, deliver totally inacurate passes, not chase down balls he has lost, fail to get the ball past the 1st man on corners, moan at the ref, moan at his team mates, not be subbed when he is the worst player on the pitch - both he and bateman need to look at this situation and either impove performances or look at alternative "options".

This is a classic example of Batemans loyalty to certain players which is costing us the chance to be in a position to go up. We should be beating teams like Rugby and Burnham if we want to get promotion - however based on the games so far this season we will be looking to scrape into the playoffs.

Re- Nathans comments if you have good distribution and a good final ball a target man is not a necessity, unfortunately today we had neither! Also on a positive note Danny murphy mom by a countrymile

Marcus,

I think you must of struggled to pick a MoM because I think no one deserved it including Danny Murphy because his crossing was abysmal today.

I think today was too bad to be true with most of the players performances either very ordinary or very poor.

The exception being James Warrington who did nothing wrong and was let down by some extremely poor midfield and defensive play for both of the goals.

After a performance like that I think it would be far too easy to start slinging the mud at certain players. Lets stay positive, the players know they were poor and I'm sure they will be determined to put things right on Tuesday.

I was at the game Staines but I just don't get wound up anymore after basically being hounded, there is more than enough to worry about in life than Slough Town FC... Yes, I've raised my doubts previously but neither me, you or anyone else who posts on this forum won't change the management or playing staff of this club so we may as well just accept that and realise that maybe individually we have good players but as a team we are not united enough to challenge for league championships, under Bateman we will always reach the play offs and with a bit of luck we may win them but we will not win the league... I hope I'm proved wrong, I know we weren't great today but there is a long way to go and I don't think singling out individuals is a good thing to be honest, we have a squad and from what I've seen with the exception of Mpi, none of them really change a game when they come on but that is because they usually only get 10 minutes... When I managed, if my team were 2-0 down at half time I would go all out attack with a 3-4-3 formation and sometimes it worked others it didn't but we never do that for reasons only the manager knows... Every manager has favourites, that will never change!!!

You don't think singling out individuals is right yet you were quite happy to launch an unprovoked and very personal attack on the manager not that long ago. Double standards methinks.

To be blunt and honest ..we do try to play some kind of football, but today it did not work ..maybe straight down the middle might work , I know its not pretty but it works ..

Rugby to be honest were defensively tight and we had no real penetration, to this , there fore a big ball over the top ..might have worked, sometimes we need not to be pretty but more direct !

We had 2 mix up's for their goals , and then spent 70 % of the time in there area..with their goal keeper the busiest of the 2 on the park ! Rugby won 1 corner all game as oppossed to out 5 or 6 !

Another day a bit of luck would have brought us back into the game !

we need to beat Barton on tuesday ! but another team we seam to allow to get at us in the past !

come on Boys ..we know you can do far better...

Ian, read my rant back if you wish, it was not aimed at any one person but all at the club... It wasn't personal, this is a job for Steve Bateman and his players, it's never about being personal as I'm sure away from football Steve Bateman and all his players are very approachable and well mannered... In any business it's all about politics, it's never personal unless you bare a grudge, as I don't know Mr Bateman it was not personal!!!

I was not at yesterday's game ,as I chose to watch my other team in a different code[Chinnor RFC],ironic as Slough were playing Rugby!

I agree,Cookham Rebel, there's no point making a song and dance about losing one game especially now we know that most of the top teams lost. However,I'm surprised that sometimes we don't shut up shop and play for a draw or to catch the opposition on the break,so to get a 1-0 win, when we are missing vital components in the Slough team ie NBH and playing the better sides in the division away from home.

Where was NBH? A huge gap in defence to not have, when playing a team with the quality of Rugby Town. I presume Slough played 4-4-2? Given the Adam Logie isn't the most natural of defenders and that Dave Woozley hasn't been playing with Logie,or been fit himself.I would have thought Steve Perkins may of been considered to play as well,as either one of a back three centre halves or as a holding midfielder, for at least the first half.

Nobody can say whether playing this way would have achieved a better result than a 2-0 loss and it may have backfired and not been a success but sometimes I feel that we just don't grind out a result by playing a tighter, more defensive unit when we should do.

Teams that can adapt to both styles [defensive minded and attack minded] when it suits them, win Championships.

Slough's open play will not. That's why we are a play-off team.

Anyway,as rightly pointed out it is only one lost game and I really can't see it being our last defeat but let's hope for a better performance against Barton Rovers.Wouldn't it be nice if we totally thrashed Barton,as they are one of the weaker sides in this division and we never seem to thrash anyone [although the Uxbridge game,we sort of came close].

Talking of Uxbridge, wasn't it nice to see that they beat Burnham 3-1 yesterday! Hurrah!
