Discrimination at school

Recommended Posts

I accept that in the heat of the moment, most people would kill someone who had murdered a family member. However, two questions:

1) If a member of your family was murdered and it went to trial (ie you didn;t get your hands on them before hand), would you still pull that lever after what could be three years or more from the original act. It is easy to say that I could, but deep down I'm not so sure that I could when it comes to that final moment.

2) Forget it being about a family member because that is too emotional. If via a lottery system you were chosen to execute someone you did not know and had no real knowledge of the case, could you HONESTLY pull that lever. If not, then you should not expect someone else to do it for you.

It's very easy to say that on this forum. However, I would bet that when it came to it at that last minute the majority of civilised human beings could not go through with that final act and pull a lever to cold-bloodedly kill another human being!

Are you telling me you could kill someone you din't knowbecause twelve men and women have found him or her guilty. What if you didn't agree with the verdict. If you were forced to do it (like jury service) would you still do it?

[color:"blue"] The answer, Mr H, is YES, YES and YES !

It's an 'impersonal' job !

It's all a bit academic Mr H. Membership of the European Union, (call it what you will), precludes ANY member state ever re-introducing the death sentence.

However, I tend to agree with PA, above, as a father of two daughters, and Grand-Father to four 'babes, I would WILLINGLY serve a life sentence for exacting revenge on anyone who took it into their heart to harm them.

We'll just have to agree to disagree and keep paying out exorbitant amounts of tax to keep these bas**rds languishing in a life of luxury.

An interesting point in the press yesterday. Average cost of a 'nutricious' school meal, around 38 pence.

Average cost of a hearty prison meal, over 60 pence !!

I rest my case, M'lud !!

I sympathise with your sentiments. My view is that murderers should serve life and that life should mean life. they should be forced into manual labour for the good of the state and should not be allowed any luxuries such as TV, education etc...

In general I agree with Mr H, and for the same reasons as he explains so well.

However I have not (yet) been in prison but I understand that contrary to popular belief it is NOT a life of luxury. Prisoners must of course be treated humanely, and I cannot see that the provision of television and, say, a prison library could be regarded as luxury - they have to do something! I am also opposed to forced manual labour, as a matter of principle. Surely education of prisoners can only be a good thing (maybe poisoners should be discouraged from studying chemistry, though!)

To perform executions on the grounds that is the cheaper option is surely an appalling argument tha puts the state on the same or lower level than the criminal.

I also agree with pabird's comments that one's personal behaviour may be different to the "correct" actions of the state, and this is perfectly reasonable. Naturally one mustface the consequences, and one trusts that a judge and jury will take all the circumstances into account. Clearly it is a different matter if you were to kill someone you had just seen murder a family member, than to plot and kill that person several years later.

For this reason I am opposed to the views recenlty expressed that women who are the viictims of "domestic" physical violence and abuse should be excused killing the offending husbands/partners. In an act of self-defence, ok, but to calmly stab the git while he's asleep is murder. Mitigating circumstances, yes, but you still shouldn't do it - there are other ways out of the situation (easy to say I know before you start on me).

I wonder if the quoted cost of school meals reflects the fact parents are charged for their childrens meals?

Nothing like a good rant on a Thursday..........

ok I've set you up....

the flaw in your previous comment Invis is about education. To my mind murderers are different from any other prisoner. They do not need to be rehabilitated as they should never be released. Hard labour will pay for their upkeep in a maximum security prison. they should not be imprisoned with any other type of prisoner other than those serving a definate life sentence.

Bring back flogging I say!!

No punishment's too harsh for the b******s who just stole ALL my wheel trims whilst I was in the Supermarket.

I was only in there for half an hour, if I'd been any longer they'd probably have had the wheels as well!!

My nice new car looks rather sad without them.

Typical poor northerner. If you lived in the rich south, you probably would be able to afford a car with alloy wheels and wouldn't have wheel trims to get nicked.

It just goes to show that "We are considerably richer then you are"!

Don't know about France - Enfield would seem a good place to bomb!

Don't be so bumptious Mr Happy. (My last car had alloys by the way, got rid of it as it was 3 years old).
