Just a brief note about todays game. On a scorching day, probably the hottest of the summer, the lads put in a very positive and battling performance. This was their first game playing together as more or less a new squad. Whitstable's experience of playing together over a longer period probably showed and remembering that they came 2nd in the League last season and i believe won the Floodlight Trophy.

After going 3-0 down by the break it would have been easy for the heads to drop but they came out battling in the 2nd half and pulled a goal back through Aston Smith. Unfortunately Whitstable got a fourth but again the lads didnt give up and got a deserved 2nd from the spot after a mazy run from Phil Hendey he was tripped in the box. He pulled himself up to slot home the penalty. With both teams tiring in the heat Whitstable made it 5-2.

A nice comment from the Whitstable Manager was that the score did flatter them a bit and he thought the Margate lads would do ok this season

Seems creditable to me-as i feared an 8-0 drubbing-so well done .

Bearing in mind these lads first got together on Wednesday they were a credit to the club and a big thank must also go to Kevin and Simon for getting the team to perform as they did today.

Off the field Graeme, Rick and Poppy made sure it ran smoothly and cannot thank them enough
