Rebels up to third in table with another two goals for the Sonner/Burnell partnership making it 8 of our 11 goals so far. If only we had a target man though

Chertsey is the team to follow if you want goals. Their last three games....Chertsey 3-5 Rebels, Ashford 5-4 Chertsey and today it was Chertsey 5-4 Uxbridge!!!

You see a different game to me,Ian. You're actually wrong about 2 goals because Burnell had been substituted and Charlie Mpi got two assists and made a big difference when he came on. With Burnell and Sonner, after the first goal,we seemed to run out of ideas how to get a 2nd.

WELL DONE,STEVE BATEMAN ! For getting the subs on early and making the right decisions on who to come on and off, it changed the pattern of play for the better.Paul Coyne was having a poor game and to me seemed to be hiding,by not tackling.Adam Martin got better as the game wore on and by putting George Coyle on,it allowed Adam Martin to get forward more.

Also Charlie Mpi introduction at long last, gave the Fleet defenders something different to worry about and he was far keener to impress than Burnell was. Sometimes is good just to have the odd new face in the team as it freshens the side up.

I thought Fleet were poor but you can only beat what's in front of you.

I agree, I would say he is our second best player behind the Wooz

If Danny left he would be very hard to replace and we would feel it

If you are reading this Danny, please stay and iron out any of your issues with the right people. We can win this league and have the quality to do so!!!!

As if you'd do better Staines!! ;)

on another note, It seems that on the Fleet forum they think they deserve a point and that 3-0 flattered us! I don't know which game they were watching, we dominated 2nd half and could have had many more.

They reckon we will be behind Bedworth and Biggleswade but are better than Uxbridge

Don't think anyone is saying drop Burnell Mark44

I think you are getting confused. In the "which team for the Fleet game" thread you specifically wrote..... "I just think it should be Mpi and one of the 3, for me it would be Abbey!!!" So which is it? Based on that you are suggesting dropping the pair who have scored the vast majority of our goals so far.

Every manager has their favourites SUTR, that will never change, at this level managers will go for their tried and trusted more than higher levels, at the end of the day their reputation, and job, depends on it... Let's face it, if Bateman was to pick Mpi and we lost to Marlow for example, and he left Burnell on the bench we'd all be on here moaning, we are that thickle!!!

Interesting Mark44, apart from 2 saves I can't remember them posing much threat, they were poor and at times we dropped to their level which happens in every standard of football, the amount of chances we had in the 2nd half was enough to win 2 games, Fleet are a mid table team... Biggleswade have more or less the same team and wasn't it 8-3 to us on aggregate last season??? Haha... That is history but yesterday we beat what was put in front of us...

Ian, that is my opinion, it is not calling for people to be dropped, I was just saying that as I would like to see more of Mpi and Abbey, I wasn't slating Sonner or Burnell, we have 4 very good strikers and it could be a case of losing 1 maybe 2 of them if they don't get enough game time which would be a great shame!!!

Video highlights from the game now available on http://www.sloughtownfc.net

Thanks again to Nathan for filming the game.

A fair share of the credit also as to go the the editor as well Gary!

Getting back to the game I too think Bateman did the right substitutions at the right time (albeit MPI for Burnell was forced by injury). It definitely gave us more options up front, and may encourage him to do the same more often when things aren't working for us (like on Tuesday night for example). Burnell and Sonner up front together rarely work when up against the bigger, more organised defences (something which I believe neither Chertesy nor Fleet had).

As for Fleet deserving a point, well I too am at a loss to see how they can justify saying that. Fleet never looked like scoring, and their forwards yesterday looked like they couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo (as shown by some of the clips on the video). What Warrington did have to deal with, he dealt with more than comfortably.

Looking at the bigger picture regarding our promotion challange, I didn't think we were anywhere near our best yesterday, yet won comfortably. Whether or not this says more about Fleet than it does about us, only time will tell, but we will certainly meet much tougher opponents during the course of the season, and I can't help but think that we will need to be a little more clinical up front if we are to beat them.

So on the one hand you think Mpi should start against Marlow (your words) but aren't saying Sonner or Burnell should be dropped. I'm glad Steve Bateman knows what the hell he's doing and doesn't listen to some of the stuff on here.

Your reading far too much into what I'm saying and making out like I'm barking orders... I said it would be difficult not to start Mpi after his display off the bench yesterday, that is not saying drop anyone as it is the managers decision who we starts each game with, not mine, yours or amyone else's... If Burnell and Sonner start then fair enough they have 4 goals each but if Mpi starts with either then fair enough as well... 4 good strikers!!! And when I said about Mpi starting in my previous post you will see I wrote for example!!!

And for the hundredth time, this is a fans discussion forum, every club has them and they are used to discuss ideas, systems and players etc... Why does it always boil down to I hope the manager doesn't take any notice, if he did I'd be worried, as a manager is employed to make his own decisions, not listen to the fans!!!
