Is there any news ! how about a progress report on the ressies, you never know it might encourage people to attend, I find it better watching them than going to Ramsgate, going away with the first team is not possible for me due to work.

What is it that the club are not doing to keep these players.

Not always the clubs fault.......younger players can lack patience.

I know when my lad was at MFC the chances of him playing for first team were remote because of his age at the time.

Fortunately he was happy to gain the experience of training with decent players and coaches and having the opportunity of being part of first team squad on match day.

Think you will find most move on, and 99% of time downwards, because they want regular footy - which is fair enough - but i think a couple of seasons being part of a Ryman Prem set up, playing for ressies and occasional cup games for first team and a couple of loan deals maybe, is far more beneficial to their development.

How do reserve teams compare to those of the past, once upon a time we had really good players in the ressies i.e. Lester Smith,Martin Redpath, Lennie Long, Ray Summers and many others, now it seems that they have become a boys club, some of whom have a bit of talent but little patience, this brings into question the need for a team at all. IMO we should forget the age thing and get players who want to play, surely there must be some older players about who are capable of putting in a good shift and can perform well for the club. If we do get a good young player he might learn a lot more playing the game with men rather than with boys who think they are better than they really are.

Thing is, anyone any good will be capable of playing in the Kent League Premier or Ryman South and be able to earn a few quid rather than playing in a reserve league for nothing. That leaves youngsters who are not ready/not good enough to play in the Ryman Premier. Loaning out younger players to other clubs makes more sense to me.

Don't forget the club has a clearly stated ambition to develop our own players and the way we intend to do that is - like many other clubs - through a youthful reserve policy.

There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to join up bits of the club's overall strategy, which will become clearer in due course. The other thing to say is that this summer was unusual in last season's manager leaving the club and so many players going with him.

Like most sane people on a Sunday morning I've just been trawling through the list of registered players on the Thanet Sunday Football League website - if the club are looking for bodies to fill out the reserve team there's a mass of our former reserve players who only appear to be playing Sunday football. Few former fringe first teamers too - Kenny Pratt, Kieran Morris, Sam Cliff etc.

Spoke to Kenny the other day at stonelees. His studies and work commitments prevent him from playing other than Sunday's. Kenny left the Rams to go to Istanbul on university business for 6 months. I believe he is on the move again soon.

Also spoke to keirion, to many battles with injuries have taken their toll on his full time ambitions, also he is know enjoying his Sunday football, something he wasn't doing at Gate or Whitstable.

As for Sam, the young man seems to be enjoying his limited local fame to have a hell of a social life. I see him out and about all the time. Had a mate back home in the midlands who, though personaly chased by Brian Clough in his Derby day's and Derbyshire county Cricket club took the social root. The last time i saw Danny M, he was sitting on a bench in Ashbourne market square, alone except for is 4 pack of special brew.

Of the lads who have supposedly gone with the manager only Joe Hickman, Dan Gonzalez- Bello, Anthony Woodward, Dan Hughes and Jimmy Cole have signed as far as I can gather. I did hear Courtney Robinson maybe going to Whitstable? Others I hear, are going away to Uni or are putting in efforts to get there next year so, are putting football on the back burner.

Not sure what I'm permitted to say TBH (Wellsie please edit if appropriate), except to say the Reserves will be entertaining Whitstable at Hartsdwn on Saturday - that's all I'm saying on the matter at the moment unless advised otherwise.

Impatience is the problem but these lads have more of a chance to play regular football at a ramsgate or whitstable. Apart from Curtis and Louis smith there have not been many local lads that have broken into and stayed in the first team.

It has always been the way to bring players in from afar. Maybe most are not up to it. Its down to the club to make a decision on the reserves. No point in struggling along all season with half a team pity Phil left for ramsgate.

Update for those interested: From tonight's session at Hartsdown where 26 players turned up, I chose an initial squad of 16 for Saturday's match. Subsequently, three of the picks were unavailable for Saturday and one has yet to decide whether he is going to sign for Margate or a.n.other club. I then made the squad back up to 16. Several players on my list weren't there tonight due to other commitments and a couple were injured.
