It's not illegal to bet on these games or to have a licenced bookies at the ground. It's just not allowed by the FA for the people involved to bet on the games, either for or against their own team or for people to bet on the games on their behalf. I'm sure you can avoid the temptation just once. The old saying comes into play - if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. The time in previous cases is up to a year ban from football and a fine of thousands of pounds. Is it really worth it just for the novelty of being able to put £20 on a CCL1 game?

Just found this on the FA website regarding three non-league players from last year:

http://www.thefa.com...tatement_220710

"In a statement, the Commission said: “The Football Association was clear in its submissions that there was no suggestion of match fixing implied in any of these cases.

The suspensions and fines are imposed because the FA rules restricting betting by players (and others) on matches or competitions in which they are involved are vital to ensure public confidence in the integrity of football. These players were all in blatant breach of the rules."

The rules are written out in full on the FA's website along with details of quite a few players who've they caught doing it over the past few years.

VP one must assume that the visiting club with either have club ties or tracksuits, if not, how would the bookies know they we friom WP. I can't imagine the bookies would ask every punter if they play for WP ?

The bookie isn't breaking FA regulations so it's not really their problem. I'm just saying all this to warn the players who may not be aware of the rules. Plus I think it reflects badly on Guernsey FC if they're allowing this to happen at their ground. Of course, no-one can stop it happening online.

Some of the cases have only come to light when responsible bookies have noticed strange betting patterns and alerted the FA, like in the Accrington Stanley v Bury game in 2008. Betfair said £281000 had been taken in bets on Accrington to lose, the normal amount taken for these sort of games is said to be £20-30000. It's reported that one player, Peter Cavanagh, only had a £5 accumulator which included this game. He says it was placed by his brother-in-law using his account but he still got a £3500 fine and eight month suspension. Accrington sacked him but he's now playing for Fleetwood Town.

5-0 would be a tasty price!!!!!!!!!!!!The only bookies who used Tables at the Races years ago, were in fact Scarper and Leggitt, for obvious reasons.IN CASE YOU BACKED A WINNER.

Hi Smudge, I did see the odds for 5-0 and would have backed it if I'd not had any money on me! I was frustrated at the end that I hadn't had anything to put on it! Surely they'll be offering lower prices on it for the next home game.

The odds were 28/1

GREAT WIND UP,Fairfranco for your first post. But let me get the facts straight, you had money when you went,so you did not back it,but if you had not had any money on you,you would of backed it HOW.As for odds buy my reckoning Guernsey would of been 1/8,therefore 10/1 would of been the true odds for a GUERNSEY WIN 5-0.

I hope all the visitors understand that without each and everyone of them we'd not have this competition so we ARE also clapping them, not just our team.

That is a really creditable post Maisie. I hope this appreciation is carried on to all the teams that go over there.

Well I can't see any reason for it not to, unless we get badly treated away by a team away before they come to us.. ( And by that I don't mean being beaten, just not treated with the respect we give to others ) I know so far the team and supporters have had a great time at away fixtures and those teams will be well received on their trip over.

The fans in Guernsey are learning too, every game, green and white merchandise is selling out as soon as it coming into stock, numbers are increasing every game. You, our opposition, are an essential part of this. We give you the stage and the audience, enjoy!!

lol! hardly a wind up smudger, just some bad typing for my first post.

What I meant was Had I had some money on me I would have put some money on it.

But alas I didn't, I agree 28/1 was great odds really.

With the defence looking decent 3,4 and 5-0 bets are pretty decent for home matches.

Smudge, I did not see a bookies table at the game, if there was one then I am sure it would have been within the law. Are you aware of guernsey gambling laws?

It's not up to the bookies to check if someone is a player or not, it's not illegal for them to take a bet from a player nor do thte break any FA rule as they are not governed by the FA. However, as already posted a player or official CANNOT bet on any game that they are involved in. If you do a search of the BBC website there are examples of players at nn league level being charged by the FA,

If no laws have been broken then i do not see a problem. People will always bet and in a free world they are perfectly entitled to do so.

Guernsey sets it's own lawsm thankfully we at times have more sense than others and do not have some of the silly laws ot other places.

1640 turned out for the Guernsey FC game. Considering there were several big sporting and other events also on, this was over the number anticipated.

Oh how I wish I was playing in front of +1600 spectators again.......I recall it must be fantastic for the players to entice the atmoshere this generates............. you Div. 1 players (and management) are lucky so enjoy and take in the moment 'cos I doubt it will ever happen again......... ?

We had a crowd of 6,000 for the island games final in 2003. So our crowds will only keep going up as we go up the leagues in my opinion.
