It sems to me...

...That my fellow Urchins think the ball was kicked out of Danny Gay's two-handed grip via a two-footed tackle and so shouldn't have been a foul to us and not a penalty. Also, either V John was tugged or the ref was making up for his mistake and so a penalty was awarded to us.

While in the red, or rather, blue corner we have the Billericay point of view: Gay stopped your player getting up to retrieve the ball and so was a penalty. Should he have been sent off? Was he the last defender? Suppose so - he's the 'keeper. Was the incident in front of the goal? No, it was to the side and the ball heading away from it towards the touchline. Were there other defenders who could have stopped a chance on goal? Yes, there were a number of people from both sides in the area. Maybe this is what the ref considered when he gave Gay a yellow card.

The second penalty. Billericay fans say he wasn't pulled and therefore we didn't deserve it. Also, the ref was biased towards us. I can tell you now it takes a lot for me to start cursing match officials (being one myself once) but Saturday was one of those times. I thought he could have handled the game better and really don't think he was biased but inept. I had a good view of some of the tackles and thought a number were very hard and dangerous.

But my overall opinion...

If you don't think the ref did a good enough job than become one youself - believe me, it's not as easy as you think. What's done is done and no amount of arguing or bitching can change that. So may I suggest those on both sides attacking each other take a deep breath, put your handbags down and calm yourselves down.

(Dare I say) It's only a game.
