Burnham tonight

Oh I'm not comparing Burnham and Chertsey Ian, not at all, Burnham won't leak many goals and will be difficult to beat... Last night just worried me as it was like many of our Tuesday night performances last season and we struggled to create anything really, with teams like Burnham you can pass the hell out of them but unless you have a centre forward and a centre midfielder who is of the same physical presence as their pairings you won't get much joy, Swift and Coyne are footballers not midfield enforcers.... I felt really sorry for Danny Burnell last night, when he got the ball to feet he had those 2 big lumps on his back and he struggled, same a bit with Sonner, would've been interesting to see how Burnham's central defence would have coped with Mpi...

I'm not being negative, there is a long way to go and we will be there or there abouts come the end of the season again, I just hate the play offs!!!

I thought the first half was pretty even, but Burnham did seem to want it more. Second half we started playing well and were looking very threatening and got the deserved equaliser. Unfortunately the second Burnham goal came just as we were at our best through a defensive mistake.

Just been unlucky with the 2 injuries, yes we may have a big squad but we do not have a large number of defenders (speaking of which, where was Sturgess last night?) and we probably deserved a draw at least from last night.

Can't do much about the terrible ref in what was not a dirty game at all and probably only warranted a couple of cards at most. Where he got the 12 or so from I have no idea. Really says something when, after 3 Slough players gettting booked for very little, Burnham get their first card for dissent!! It just kept breaking up the game and interrupted any rhythm we tried to build.

Hopefully we can get back to winning ways on Saturday!

Ironic that Burnhams two best players were those who it was rumoured we might be acquiring quite recently.....Dunlop and Bird.

still think we played the better football and should have had something out of the game despite the teenage nightmare of a ref......surely the authorities(whoever they are !) should have known beter than to give a local derby to a young inexperienced official. Wonder what the assessor made of it !

The match basically changed when Steve got injured as previously said.

With 2 of our main defenders out from bad injuries on saturday, the last thing we needed was for our keeper not be able to play at 100%.

We had to look at how we played defensively in a different way. Normally the keeper doubles up as a sweeper, and we lost that.

With Burnham closing down the players as soon as they got the ball, and without that option of going backwards, the pressure told. Burham basically took control of the situation better than we did.

When we went forward, we still looked as good as in the previous matches, but for one reason or another the chances were cleared.

Also, the ref did play a small part, as the match was fast paced and players were closing down early, the spate of yellow cards did not help, as it would have made most players think twice when going in for a tackle, which then makes the mis-time the tackle and receive a prossible yellow card anyway.

So far I have seen a lot this season that I am impressed with and am very happy to watch and would like to continue watching

What is the point of having Charlie Mpi if he is not going to play or is only given 5 mins.

Having seen him given time in the friendlys he was more than capable of playing and scoring at this level.

If Bateman continues to keep him on the bench we will see him find another club where he gets 90 mins and will score a bag full.

Batemans stubbeness or stupidity with substitutions is costing us games and that is not just based on last nights game but has been seen in all his time with the club.

As for the overall game last night one shot on target and Burnham wanting it more sums it up - and the ref he was making the rules up as he went along.

Whilst I agree that it would have been nice to see Mpi given longer than a few minutes I'm not sure how you can say the substitutions cost us the game. We didn't concede the second because of a non substitution and there's no guarantee that had Charlie come on sooner we'd have ended up with any different result than the one we did.

At Uxbridge Sonner was due to come off and promptly scored the second. Had he come off and been replaced earlier would we have still got that second or gone on to win? Who knows but you can't say substitutions cost us games. That's just pure speculation.

as soon as it went 1-1 it was crying out for us to go for it and capitialise on the momentum

the winner was a touch unfortunate but exactly the sort of goal we continue to concede at home to Burnham for some reason

shame that we didnt at least get a point to take advantage of Rugby and St Neots losing but it just goes to show that no team can expect to win any game

in regards to the ref lets hope justice is done and he is demoted or better struck off altogether. as said people like Coyne were backing out of tackles in case they got a 2nd yellow

BUT i agree we cant blame it all on him. we simply created far too little and when we did have sniffs at goal to say we were wasteful is an understatement

nobody played particularly badly but the ideal qualities to beat sides like Burnham were not available to us in certain areas of the field mostly due to injuries

Not one of my all-time best videos, but then again I could only film what was in front of me.

With regards to substitutions, they should be used to change games when its clear that the current line-up/formation isn't working; like last night - it was clear we weren't going to score, yet nothing changed until it was too late.

I think the main point is that when Burnham scored in the 76th minute we needed some fresh legs in midfield, which came in the form of Adam Martin and for the last 10/15 minutes put someone on up front who would give the tall Burnham back line something different to think about which to my mind is Charlie Mpi i.e. height and pace and not Ben Abbey (no offence to Ben because I think all 3 should have came on at the same time).

You're spot on,Staines. We were crying out for a big striker with pace in the 2nd half and we got Ben Abbey!

When we equalised we had Burnham rattled but our forwards were getting nowhere fast. The game would have suited Charlie Mpi and his style of play. All the subs came on too late,IMO.

I'm afraid to say it but Steve Bateman never gives his subs time enough to make a worthwhile contribution and thus we often fail to turn around our under achieving team, when things aren't going well.

Also in full agreement with Staines Rebel on this subject. And in reply to freespirit, they are only underachievers if you truly believed the pre-season rhetoric,ONCE AGAIN!!
