thuggish number 9??

you have got to be having one!

Your player who injured his wrist fell awkwardly on an already damaged wrist. Hardly a thugs fault is it ?!

Well played though and looked very strong all over the park. Best of luck this season!

It was a good match however it all worked in slough's favour. I mean, seriously, our number 9 never done anything and i found it very unfair that he got booked for doing NOTHING. Your player climbed over our number 9 and hurt himself just like how one of your players was holding some of our players during second half when chertsey had a corner. And excuse me, number 9 isn't a thug, he's our captain so please treat him with respect

There did look to be a fair amount of roughhousing going on all over the pitch, which was a shame as I thought it was threatening to damage the game as a spectacle - it was all very stop-start with the referee blowing up for niggly fouls. Until Danny Burnell grabbed that goal just before half-time, I thought it was going to be "one of those days", but in the second half I think class told and we ran out worthy winners.

Aside from the three goals they did get, Chertsey didn't threaten that much in the final third and we coped quite well with the loss of Woozley and Brown, though Coyle was caught out at right-back for the second goal. Adam Logie was indeed very impressive when he stepped in to partner NBH at the back.

Overall, an excellent comeback today after an excellent performance at Uxbridge, so things are looking promising so far - but I'm sure things will be different on Tuesday with the injuries probably forcing a return to 4-4-2, and the little matter of a local derby.

shame that the Brown injury is being dwelled on as it just seemed an unfortunate accident. no way their 9 could have known Brown would crash land so badly. wasnt like it was a disgraceful two footed lunge

on the injury front Woozley could be a massive loss if he is out for any length of time

all 3 officials made mindblowingly ridiculous decisions for most of the match. free kicks galore given for nothing for both teams as well as clear decisions being ignored

Chertsey caught us cold early on and we really werent getting going. injuries then could have made a massive impact but the jig round worked pretty much straight away

just as we looked like we would equalise we got cold having just got away with a 1on1. their 2nd goal was simply due to Coyle not really at all being a full back. fair play to the guy though 2nd half he done very well indeed. looks a very able and useful player

no doubt our 1st was at a vital time

2nd half we carved their defence open at ease and it was pretty much Uxbridge away all over again. brilliant finishes from Sinclair and Sonner

not sure if you call Swifts "clearance" that smashed our own bar was lucky or pure class defending lol

Marsala started a bit quiet but impressed in 2nd half

Logie was exceptional at the back. Chertsey 2nd half struggled to make anything at all from open play

in the end it was a hard fought but deserved victory. as said before you get the feeling this is the type of match in which after what went against us 1st half last season would have ended with us knicking a draw at best. desire and spirit to overcome the odds and grind out a result is exactly what we will need to go up.

your no 9 the failed weeble just could not stand on his own two feet i would stop him drinking before games as it obviously affects his balanceoh just in case you cant work it out weebles wobble but they don't fall down which is why he is a weeble failure.

???

You sure you haven't been at the sherry,Heavy Trucker? Is there any chance you can use some punctuation sometime soon,as I feel pissed just reading your garbled rhetoric.

Well done Slough for digging deep and pulling together.A well deserved win.

How exactly did it all go in our favour? Up until our first goal everything that could go wrong went wrong! 2 injuries to defenders and 2 midfielders playing at the back, a different formation to the one we started with, 2 goals down and Sonner hit the post, not to mention countless dodgy decisions from the ref towards both teams! The second half yes we got our rhythm and it went well from there but the first 45mins it all went very wrong no matter how hard we tried.

I am the so called thuggish no 9 and just for the record want to apologise for the injuries I may or may not have caused. If I was such a thug I'd of been telling your players to get up however was consoling them whilst receiving treatment and even as they was subbed apologised again. Now if u call that thuggish behaviour then admittedly I'm a thug. As for drinking the night before lol thts a good one but I can assure u it's something I don't do. I was simply trying to look about myself and create something for myself against ur huge defenders. Anyways outclassed in the end by a very good Slough side and wish u and ur team every success for the season.

Fair play to you for coming on here Philip and putting across your side of events. Good luck until the return leg at which point I am sure Browney will relish coming up against you again.

All "seven" (yes, all eight, but only seven counted....) goals caught on film thanks to Nathan and will be up online later tonight.

Thanks Gary! :doah:

I thought that the first half both sides were pretty average, and once we went 2 goals down I thought "here we go again", but there's no doubt that Burnell's goal just before half-time changed the game as from then on we had our heads up.

Steve Sinclair was immense during the second-half, and thoroughly deserved his goal. Burnell and Sonner also never stopped giving 100% either.

The injuries are rather worrying however, as they seem to be building up. Let's hope Adam Martin and Simion Sweeney get back ASAP.

Thanks for that.

Certainly not a thug. As I said as supporters we all have our blinkers on and if you was our player I'm pretty certain we'd be backing you to the hilt and saying it was accidental.

Anyway, I think Chertsey showed in spells that they are a good side.

Best of luck for the season.

When Chertsey got there 2nd I feared the worst but what a great comeback, when we need goals we can switch to 4-4-2 like we did today!!!

You can feel how much the players want that league title!!!

Hopefully Brown and Woozely will be back soon, but with Sweeney and Perkins in the squad, not bad back ups are they???? I thought Logie was excellent today, I would resist playing him centre back though, he is the heartbeat of our midfield!!!

I think for the Burnham game SB should consider using Adam Logie with Nathan Bowden Haase and Simon Sweeney or Steve Perkins along side them,as a back three,if fit of course. Someone mentioned on this thread that they think we will play 4-4-2 against Burnham now, because of Woozley and Brown's injuries. I just don't see the logic in that.

Due to the enforced changes,it's a perfect time to get other defenders used to the three at the back system.People forget Adam Logie captained Hayes and Yeading and Ashford as a central defender. Also Simon Sweeney is as good a centre-half as he is a right back and Steve Perkins is a natural organiser and although not the quickest now,he knows how to time his tackles.

I don't see either of these new for this season's defence as a weakness although both do need game time. I see them very much as a positive and an enhancement to the team.

We also get to add a new player to the midfield centre three, a straight toss up between George Coyle and Sam Bateman, both can do the donkey work needed in their role.I feel Sam Bateman has the edge due to his experience and attacking prowess. However, given our new defence, perhaps George Coyle's holding role/style maybe better suited against Burnham.

Whatever the team,I hope we stuff Burnham ! lol !

Fair play for the no.9 coming on here and explaining. I'm sure most players don't want to injure others and like Reading says we all have our blinkers on when it comes to our team.

Fantastic second half tho from Slough we, streamrolled them.

Nice little ground they've got, just wish they had some beer on tap rather than everything out of a tin.

I think you need to put the Chertsey fans and players reaction into context.

This was their cup final - having a crowd of 236 is not something they are used to - last year the biggest gate was 210 against the mighty Egham, and an average gate of 131 - so to be outnumbered 2 to 1 by visiting fans you can understand why they are getting so excited.

As for the game the ref should have got a grip and then the chances of the injuries would have been reduced.

As for the last goal from Chertsey - the lino had his flag up rather early - maybe even before the ball was cleared from the area of the line? and then felt he could not go back on his decision? - anyway, we won fair and square and Chertsey can now look back on this as there biggest day of the season.

It's good to see a player coming on here to explain what happened on the pitch, especially when they don't have to.

With two enforced changes, Slough came out in the second half and played some great football.

Well done

I would also like to wish Alex all the best in his recovery and hope the break is not too bad

Sadly no 9 marked his card from the off ! Over zealous on tackles shouting at the ref for elbow's at every opportunity !

Even half way through the second half the Chertsey no 5 was shouting at him to get off the floor and start playing football !

as he was spending to much time there ! When no 4 got a bloody nose in the first half ,the no 9 marched 10 meters to the ref

asking for our player to be sent off ! so much for sportsmanship eh ?

Chertsey seamed to run out of steam and Slough got stronger and stronger and in the end were worthy winners.
