Ilford FC

Today we kick-off the new season at Ilford with high hopes and a very realistic chance of promotion.

We have gone close over the past two seasons, but this time round there is real cause for optimism that this might be our year. Steve Newing has assembled a very strong squad of players, and recent performances at Wealdstone and East Thurrock show that we are well capable of competing at a higher level.

Consistency is the key. We need to get off to a good start today, hit the ground running, and put points on the board with a string of impressive results.

Good luck today everyone!!

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS BELOW including both goals, rob's double save and loads more action... Was it a foul on Rob for the Ilford goal and was there a handball in the build up??? Have a look to make up your mind??? Rob Budd's save late on was quality too.

I think people are getting far too carried away in saying it's not good enough. Sure Steve and the players will be disapointed at only getting a point but on another day Town could of scored 3 or 4 from the chances they created so there are lots of positives to take out of the game. It's not what happens on the first day of the season but where you finish at the business end that counts!

Daniel Ailey looks a really good prospect... holds the ball up well and knows where the goal is. think he was MOM prior to him coming off...

Hi

I dont think your photo shows a foul and the cold ends youtube clip is not definite. I didn;t think that Rob has securely collected the ball in life action and as the player had his back to Rob it would be difficult to say that any contact was deliberate.. If you think that Rob was being elbowed from the photograph you might just as well say that Rob was giving the Ilford player a dead leg!

I have always thought that in the modern game Goalkeepers get too much protection and I would have been disappointed if the roles had been reversed. IE this was the Ilford goalie and an Enfield forward,

To be honest, I'm sick of all this talk. Its clear we wont get promoted - 3 years in this tin pot league is a joke. The new stadium is coming so lets get a new manager and a few quality players in before then. Thanks for your efforts Steve but its time to move on.

I agree, let's move back to Brimmo and reappoint Margolis. Bring back the glory days.

Great fishing.

Agreed Margolis was crap - Chandler he was not.

Lets face the facts - AFC Wimbledon, Halifax, Telford and Chester all promoted last year. We are rotting in Ryman 1 North and need something to bring the crowds in. We are probably the most unsuccessful fan owned club but with massive potential.

All I am saying is give someone else the chance to make a difference. I'm sick of playing the likes of Ilford, Harlow and Ware. We are massive fish in a small stinking pond. It could be so different if we make a brave decision.

It was a piss poor effort yesterday to say the least but calling for S N's head wont change the way we keep failing against the teams we should beat hands down. Ilford and the likes of them just see us as a scalp to be had ,And quite often they get it ! !

What needs to change is the structure of the club , This fans owned tosh is just not going to get us up to the conference levels . Time for our B o D to resign and hand the club over to a local Investor , An opportunity has been lost with Lee Harding and perhaps Graham Westley before him in our EFC days , I'm sure the usual brown nose's of the Inner circle will slate me for this but I dont care . Being a part owner /member wont give us the promotions that is required for a club of our size . Every year it gets more tedious playing the same old crap week in week out , We are stagnating here . Time to vote in a new owner .

Yes 3 years for Newing. I am aware of how long we have been STUCK at this level - it is unacceptable.

I'm with Out of Towner here - lets get some investment in!!!!

Just picking up on a couple of points though...

Give us the crowds of AFC Wimbledon, Telford, Halifax or Chester, and the revenue generated would get us promoted. Guaranteed. It's a nonsense to compare them to us just because we are 'fans owned'.

I don't think you'll find too many people arguing that even with the move to the new ground, we will only be able to sustain, financially, Ryman Prem standard with our current level of support.

HOWEVER, to say that it's 'time for our B o D to resign and hand the club over to a local Investor...' What local investor? Is there a queue outside the door? Maybe Lazarou should have another go? I'm sure if a genuine candidate showed an interest, it would be put to the members.

Also, "Being a part owner /member wont give us the promotions that is required for a club of our size." Club of our size? What size is that? You could rightly argue that our level of support is in the top two or three in the current division (certainly not our budget), but in the Ryman Prem? We're not Enfield FC circa 1986 and even if we were, football has changed.

I'm not sure that weeks before a move into a new ground that so many people have worked so hard for is the right time to be calling for a coup to be brutally honest. But each to their own.

It's amazing what two dropped points at Ilford can do to you.
