1-1 FT

A fair result and entertaining game.

Will be interesting to hear from those that went - keen to know what to expect on Tues. really looking forward to this season, shame we couldnt have capitalised but Wealdstone are tipped to be top half this season so not a bad away result.

Well i'm disappointed that we didn't come away with three points. A second goal in the first half when we were applying the pressure would have made all the difference. The second half we let them back into the game, and paid for it.

I expect and demand three points from every game...

First rule is don't lose first game-so mission accomplished and iwould have settled for a point pre-match-so happy enough.

Draw fair result-though overall-i though wealdstone marginally shaded it.

Yes we were better in first half-but maybe not quite as dominate as is suggested-i thought wealdstone had quite a few and the better chances.

equally in second half-whilst wealdstone were completely dominate for first 20mins-after they scored we got back into it again.

Overall-typical first game of season-all a bit uncoordinated and very patchy-nervous teams.

Notwithatanding it was first gasme-overall-i was a bit disappointed in our standard of play-i think my expectations are lower than most-but even so-was a bit disappointed.

The good news from that is that we can and will do and play a lot better.

i thought players did not play much above 80% of their potential aon saturday.

I was surprised that wealdstone came out so strong at start of second half-as i thought it would be margate who would do that-as i thought we under achieved in first half.

That given-whilst we could not get the ball(worrying 0 from wealdstone for first 20 minutes of second half-alll teams have their purple patch -and thought we had just weathered the storm -and werre getting back into it-so disappointing having weathered the storm to concede to their 'wonder goal '.

THE GOOD BITS

smelt loks fine in goal

avery wins a lot of headrs/and thus midfeiled second ball/possesion#

captain cloke is a good leader of the team.

as we know-defence is fine for this level

THE NOT SO GOOD BITS

midfield is ok as individuals-but is not playing as a UNIT.

we miss the long throw-both as an attacking weapon-and more significantly on saturday-as a defensive option to clear the lines.

I'm not sure that 4-3-3 gives you enough quantity in midfield-whilst overalll they were ok-avery and coleman went awol during the wealdstone 20 minute purple patch.

i thought CK should have taken a striker off and brought wilson on earlier to give us numbers in midfield where we were simply outniumbered and did not get possessiojn.

THE VERY GOOD BIT

we conceded a lot fewer free kicks-much too many free kicks uneccesarily given away last season leading to goals conceded. If CK/JL coached into them to concede fewer free kicks-that will be worth 2/3 points over a season-and its all the little bits that add up.

My expectations of 'flowing football' at this level are very low-hoofball is ok with me if it gets 3 points-but even at ryman level-you would expect2/3 passes to be strung togeter-and frankly-on saturday we were unable to do that. There was no inter -passing between midfield at all.

Don't expect much-but 2/3 passes is not unreasonable.

Happy enough -as always thought we would be about 12th/13th. but if as proclaimed-directors/players/manager and most supporters are looking for top half-we need that midfield general to give co-ordination/experience /leadership in midfiled-where at moment we have 3/4 indcviduals-all goood enough but not playnig as a unit.

I guess you always want that final piece in the jigsaw-and funding dictates-but whilst we have leaders at the back-its the engine room where most of the play goes through whre we are lacking at the moment.

Agree CE.

AAS i think we both agree-midfield went missing during wealdstones purple patch.

We were outnumbered in midfield-always a danger with just a 3 man midfiled.

stilolo -you only have 11 players so not sure much you can do.

maybee 4-3-3 works at home-but not too sure away

All the midfield are good enough-but need more 'practice' as a unit.

I would like to see wilson start though for exactly the same reasons as you post CE.

We should have buried them in the first half, lost count of the number of corners we had. Great game of two halves really. Really enjoyable day out, lovely little ground (although we went to Ruislip RFC first oops). Well done to the choir outsinging the Stones fans all the way through, especially in the second half, seemed to be appreciated by the players at the end. It really felt like the start of the good old days with CK standing constantly on the chalk line. Loved it.
