Grant and Groombridge sign for Blues

Sits well with me .

I think most would agree Dean grant always did ok-without setting the world on fire-but if he can find an extra 10% improvement within himself-and CK and JL can coach an extra 20% into him-then you end up with a really good player.Versatile as well-full back 0r wide right (ryan peters here we come again ?)

Only seem Groombridge for 45 mins-but seemed ok to me in that short period, and same applies as above

argualbly a bit odd when (i think it is his brother-sam )leaves the club but his brother steps into his shoes from Ramsgate ,where he was not a first team regular-but in fairness Ashley looks more than ok .

I thimnk he was at woking previously ?

Still-no different to robinson and robinson i guess.

Thats it then-a squad of 16 .Would rather have a compact squad of good players than a load more players but lesser quality.

Seems CK has got the balance of numbers right between defence midield and attack.

Looks like a` squad that will bring us in about 13th imo-and would be happy with that.

I imagine wheter you are manager/player/director of fan-you always want that'one extra player' ,and sigh-if only funds allowed.

I think we are well covered in defence/midfield and attack;but where do i see a slight weakness-thats in midfield-more than happy with all of wilson, stubbs, coleman, avery, bodkin'excepting you look at defence and see leaders in vitually everyone-you see good players in midfield but are we lacking the one quality experienced midfield leader who could make the difference between finishing my predicted 13th ,and a top 8 postiion.

I just feel you need a real engine room leader im midfield /seasoned campaigner.

would it make sense to get a 'stellar signing' jon a three month loan-to get some momentum going-you are only investing /risking a three month salary increase-and if that extra quality helps achive a couple of cup wins, instead of the normal early exit-it becomes self financing anyway-, but if things are'nt going too special-you have no long term financial commitment.a three month loan until late november sees you through virtually half the seasons games anyway !

are their any much higher division player-maybe returning from injury-who need to get theri fitness back before returning to a higher grade of football.

The gap between 8th and 13th is probably about 8 points.

Between 5th and 13th about 12 points.

would one very proper midfield player-to lead our other good midielders could help make serious inroads into that points difference

best wishes to both-and when they arrive-hope they can take their first team opportunities

Grant being taken on surprises me I must admit.Still,we'll see if he can impress this time round (has had a few other times to do that without much success, i.m.o.)

Groombridge,on the other hand has shown up well in pre-season friendlies at full back & that one dosen't surprise me.Good signing that one.

Understand that entirely.

All i would point out is that when curtis robinson joined us from Dover-he was very scratchy in his first 10/12 games.

Then 18 months later-he is deserved player of season.

He has to find it within himself-but if Grant can find an extra 10% from within to improve-and CK/JL can coach 10% improvement into him-he can make himself into a very good player.

He has to want to do it though

I will work on the theory that CK knows what he is doing ;)

But you're a girlie what do you know about football!!!!

Now that is either a very brave thing to say or a very stupid thing to say!! Don't like your chances of surviving the day lol. ^_^

ooooooo UNCLE FOOFAR!!!! thats not nice ;)

He needs more than 10% I'm afraid. I suppose you could try and coach/improve his non existant first touch, how to pass a ball to feet 10 yards, how to shield a ball and not get knocked off, how to run and not skip like a ballet dancer, but you shouldn't have to do that with individual players at Sunday parks level, let alone a player picking up wages to play at Ryman Premier level. I think CK will see through him slightly faster than IOC did ;)

AS Dean Grant was at faversham-i suspect JL has alot to do with this signing.

I've been impressed by what JL has brought to the club in the little i have seen-and i would suggest that JL definately got it right re: Avery-and thus there is no reason why he won't have got it right re:grant.

maybe we should be patient-see how it develops-and i have a sneaky suspicion that we will see a 'new' Dean Grant this season.

  • 2 weeks later...

We have'nt seen anything of groombridge so far.

rumoured a few weeks ago that he was injured-is that still the case ?

what injury has he got ?

One assumes he is 'still involved' and you can only have a 16 man squad-so maybe he is the one currently missing out on squad selection.

Has he been 'travelling' to the games ?

No doubt his time will come

Up the 'Gate
