Sweeney, Martin and Perkins have all now signed forms.

With those three added, we really do have a good squad and competition for places. No one can sit back this season and think they're automatically in the starting eleven, which can only be a positive thing and something we haven't had for awhile.

I'm relishing the Burnham game, what with the rivalry and both teams being footballing sides.

I was surprised Steve Bateman says in the Slough Observer this week that the 3-5-2 system is not as attractive to watch as his past 4-4-2 teams have been,as I disagree with him, there. I think it is can work out better offensively and defensively and can be a pleasure to watch if organized properly.

It was just my luck to miss the Uxbridge game but from the reaction on this forum,it doesn't sound like Slough was any less entertaining playing 3-5-2 than some of the misfiring 4-4-2 games we had last year.

What I like about the squad this year is that we have so many options at our disposal and if we can get a bit of a winning mentality/momentum going, we could be the team to finish as Champions not play-off contenders.

Still, there's a long way to go............. come on you, rebels!

The 3-5-2 system worked magnificently against Uxbridge... I've taken great pleasure in the 2 clean sheets and it was great watching our defence being well marshalled and winning everything!!! I for one don't care if we won 1-0 every week as long as we go up, watching a good defence is as good as watching a good attack in my opinion, the other night reminded me of when we had Hercules, McGinnis/Stowell and Angus at the back, strong but effective!!!

Oh happy days,CR ! Gary McGinnis, what a player he was.He cleared up most things that the big guys missed. As Reading are finding out, Brian McDermott is no mug. As a manager he wasn't afraid to take risks and look how it paid off with Cliff Hercules.Cliff was a legend up front for Aylesbury and had come to Slough and performed wonders upfront for a season or so. He started to wane at the level we were at and rather than letting him leave to go to a lower level club,Brian McDermott transformed him into a bloody good centre half and we certainly got value for money with that signing. Playing alongside the experienced pair of Angus and McGuinnis, Hercules flourished.

Youngster Matt Stowell was given the chance to break into the team by McDermott, when other managers may have looked for the easier option by buying an estabilished centre-half. Stowell went on to play in the Football League.

So to my mind, great things can be achieved with unknown/untried methods,it just takes the balls to do it.Sometimes things pay off and sometimes they don't but it's better to try than not try at all.
