Website update - The clubs history online

Tom

Recommended Posts

You may by now have noticed the official website has had a bit of a refresh ahead of the coming season. If not and you are finding it looks a bit weird this should be sorted by clearing your internet history or by pressing CTRL + F5 and you should be able to see the changes.

Over the past year Gary, Matt and myself have been working on collating the clubs history from it's conception in 1889 through to it's current incarnation. You can now view details on some 4700 fixtures the club has played in, 2000 players that have played for the club and the 400 clubs Slough have played against in their history.

http://www.sloughtownfc.net/fixtures

http://www.sloughtownfc.net/player-database

http://www.sloughtownfc.net/opposition-database

We are still working on completing some bits and pieces and over the coming weeks hope to add as much detail as we can to match reports and player profiles.

We would really appreciate any help you are able to provide us to help build on this resource and if you would like to contribute by providing any match reports (pre-1990s) or information on players as we have a few fixtures where we haven't been unable to identify players it would be greatly received.

Lastly I would like to thank a friend of mine, Oli, who despite having no affiliation to the club has put a tremendous amount of his own time and effort to help us on this project.

That data for the opposition and player database has taken significantly more than a year to compile!!! I've been working on it for at least four years!

Anyway, thanks to Tom and Oli for compiling he technical wizardry, John Tebbit and especially Alan Smith for all the line ups and player information and Matt for all his assistance pulling things together.

Now we just need some help with information on the older players!!

Message to Gary & Tom:

Regarding the match reports, I assume you mean can somebody help knock some together using old programmes/newspapers etc.?

I still have alot of newspaper clippings from the 2002/03 season, from when I was building up a scrapbook. There's some good action shots in there, including a group of fans posing by a STFC flag before our FA Cup game against Harrogate Railway. Mostly these are match reports from the Slough Express & Slough Observer, by there are also a few match reports (and player profiles) printed directly from the old official website!

There's a wealth of articles, including interviews with players throughout the season and general news articles, and I'm fairly sure I've got most (and possible all) of the games for that season covered. Almost all of these clippings I cut out and stuck onto either A4 or A3 paper, depending on the size of the articles.

I'd be more than willing to let anybody take a look and use whatever they wish (some of the actions shots I believe would be a waste if they weren't used, but they are newspaper cuttings from 9 years ago and therefore aren't the absolute best image quality or size).

I would also be willing to help out with some match reports for that season if required, as I had a similar project planned for my old RebelsOnline website, which for various reasons was never implemented.

First, thanks to everyone involved in what has been a fantastic effort and obviously a labour of love. I, and I am sure many other posters/supporters, know quite a lot about many of the "older" players (late 50's/60's for me) and would be delighted to help. How do we ensure that that there are not seven or eight of us working up the same material unknown to each other? Sorry if that has been explained somewhere else and I have missed it.

Cheers Gary. I am at the stage when I can easily remember who played in what game for Slough in say 1961/62 season but can't quite remember why I've just walked upstairs! Will await further advice/instructions.

How many Alan Davies' should there be on the player database? The most appearances will have been made by the one who played in the 1973/4 promotion side and there was also the very successful manager of that name in the late 80's/early90's. Were they one and the same? My records also show that an Alan Davies played outside left for Slough in a re-arranged, post-freeze up game against Dorking in April 1963. His name was not listed in the programme for that match, which I attended. It does, however, appear in line up for the reserves in the unusual double-header against Horsham at the Dolphin on 12 April 1963.

I'm fairly sure I have a good few seasons worth of old programmes from the late 60's / early 70's but I'll have to dig them out of the loft though !!!

Is that the sort of thing you might be looking for ? If so, I'll get onto it and have a rummage around ... and hope the mice haven't made nests out of them !!!

DF - anything with player profiles, pictures, and match details (reports etc.) would definitely be of use.

Ok I'll get onto it. Would it be best to scan the relevant bits and send them on to someone ?

If so who do I send them to ?

Sorry if all this is posted somewhere already but I've only just spotted this tonight.
