Windsor 1-1 South Park

We do need to be careful with our expectations for the season ahead, and an eye-opener in the first game is no bad thing, but it has to be said that was a bit of a disappointing display today.

South Park looked more organised and confident in possession and it would not have been an injustice if they had come away with a convincing victory, which, with better finishing they would surely have done.

We were obviously not helped with injuries but it was a very disjointed display with little cohesive passing. In fact we looked like a bunch of players who really didn't know each other very well which, I suppose, is exactly what we are right now.

Ryan O'Toole lookes very dangerous and, despite his tendency to hold onto the ball too long, can beat players with ease. I'm sure once he has settled in with a strike partner he will bag, and create, a hatful of goals in this league.

So, undefeated and things will surely get better but, although I don't know much / anything about the other teams in the CCL, I suspect we will be up top with South Park as the season progresses.

Here's hoping anyway!

Don't forget that South Park are newly promoted to the Prem from Div 1.

I look forward to Kevin's thoughts on the game.

Decent crowd considering the weather looked like it might turn at any moment.

It was always going to be a big ask to assemble a whole team from scratch at a few weeks’ notice and Saturday showed it’s probably going to take a couple more months or so before the team is complete and the players start to gel. We look a bit light in a few positions and have a few too many square pegs in round holes at the moment. We also seem to be lacking a leader on the pitch a David Woozley/Steve Butler type character.

That said Saturday could turn out to be a well earn point come the end of the season. Although I have no previous knowledge of how good any of the other teams in the CCL are I would imagine South Park will be up towards the top come the end of the season. They were well organised and looked like they had played together for some time. They might come to regret missing all the chances come the end of the season.

All in all it was a good day and great to see a Windsor team in competative action again. Roll on the rest of the season.

Would just like to say Thank You to Windsor FC and there supporters. Although it was a very special day for your club, it was the same for us being first game in the Prem. Firstly the pitch was in great condition :applaus: . For me what made it even more special was your mascot who i thought was brilliant, great fun and we as players have never played a team that has one. Also seeing some of your supporters in kits was a nice touch, your be lucky if any of our supporters have a badge!

Onto the game before the game we would of took a point, but after was gutted about the missed chances. Also O'Toole is a class act and greatful i dont have to come up against him every week. Agree the one main advantage we had over you was that we've played together for a couple of years now and had more of a understanding, where as at times it showed that you hadn't had many games together.

Finally we all had a great time out in Windsor after and i hope you have as much of an enjoyable day at our place as we did at yours. Im sure that most will agree once they've been to your ground, that your a great addition to the CCL. :welcome:

Great day first ever league game, decent crowd, shame we did not get the performance we would of all liked but it just shows how far we have yet to go before we can realistically set intentions of where we think we can finish.

I think that we have got the basis of a solid side with the need to of a few additions in key areas a ball winning midfielder and a striker to link up with O'Toole.

Full credit to South Park they were no mugs and showed us all what a tough league this is going to be and on another day we would of come away with a heavy defeat but it was a point very much gained in my view.

Still lots to be positive about think it will take 10 games to get the side settelled down and give us a fair reflection of what this Windsor team can do.

Molly11 - i'm sure everyone at the club appreciates your kind words, i know the supporters do, thank you! We were all excited to join the Combined Counties League, the initial excitement was followed by a tinge of disappointment for me as there appeared to be a bit of resentment towards us joining the league from some quarters on the league forum on here. We've always prided ourselves on the welcome we give to clubs and the community spirit we try to produce, so it's really heartwarming that following our first league game to have an opposition player take the time to thank the club for the warm welcome they received at Windsor FC, because it's the way we want to be known in the league. All the very best for the rest of the season and we are looking forward to our first visit to South Park later in the season. As has been mentioned on this thread already, I think you will be up there challenging this season, you were a very impressive outfit.

P.s. glad you enjoyed the Windsor nightlife :-)

I hope that I don't get into any trouble for posting this link on here

I would like to echo Geggy's comment above as well. I find it quite humbling to have opposing players be so complimentary about us. Thanks Molly11. I hope you have a very successful season.
