I think this is a case of Folkestone wanting too much for him. Its a shame really as this probably means that Friend will be playing Ryman South football next season. A level of football that he is much better than!!!

It's the player you have to feel sorry for.

 

I can understand Folkestone wanting money for the lad, as we would if a club came in for Curtis but in this day and age you have to be realistic about what clubs can afford to pay.

I work with his brother. I know he was really kean on joining Margate especially under Chris Kinnear. Might have a chat with his brother to find out what his options are now. It's terrible being tied to a club when all you want to do is play at a higher level. I suspect though that friendy is one of Folkestone's main assets.

I can understand the decision ,and see the need for balance in player numbers between midfiel,defence and attack;and obviously it is not a bottomless pit.

 

CK's comments about the quality of existinf defenders also very true.

 

That given-you can never have enough defenders-and all it takes is one serious injury ,and a couple of suspensions and trhe picture looks entirely different.

 

Maybe if folkestone were to dilute their demands, the deal may yet be refreshed-as he does seem to be a good defender-and from reading the above-wants to play for Margate .

 

I do wonder why it took so long for him to appear in one of the later psf's as opposed to a couple of earlier games-whuich may have done him more benefit ?

It's simply not straight forward to arrange for a plyer in these circumstances to just turn out for you. We needed the permission of Liam's club, there were holidays involved with some of the key people which delayed things. In the end, we were only able to bring Liam in for a couple of games due to the cooperation of the Folkestone chairman.
