Margate appoint Mark Harrop as Reserve Team Manager

A good appointment as Mark is a nice guy.

Interviews over then. I can hear the phone call from KP to IS now: "Ian, I have a pile of applications - who is the nicest?....Right, thanks...he's hired"

I imagine the piece of paper offered to him was headed JOB DESCRIPTION, and underneath it simply read BE NICE.

Is it actually the case that for the last 3 seasons- we have in fact through PF built 'young sides for the future' but because of the frailities of youth, and the fact that we /not contracted younger players-these guys consistently just fliit between margate and ramsgate.

somehow-stability and progression needs to be found-with an element of contracts even at this level..

Appreciate that the theory is great-but harder in preactice-particularly when young guys are soeasily led/tempted to move on for a glib promise of 'the better land';but there is always a way-and the way must be found-.

it just needs one chris smalling to be found every two years and the whole thing becomes self funding

Maidstone didnt make on it though did they, because he was a schoolboy at the time they couldnt put him on contract I believe. Ok Fulham gave them a one off payment as a gesture of goodwill but that would have soon be swallowed up with their debts at the time am sure.

Well we should also give the young players hope by promoting where we can (county cups) and loaning them. A 30 year old sunday player in the ressies is no good to anyone!

Hasn't really harmed us before with reserves going to Ramsgate, its not like anybody's gone there from us and been sold on. Arguably the last local players to 'make it' were Paul Lamb and Mark Munday in as far as they played in the Conference. Maybe Curtis Robinson might progress but doubt we've lost some glittering talents to the Rams this summer.

Very true.

Is that because : the natural ability is not there in the first place ?

younger players have too many distractions and not enough application/self discipline ?

the coaching has not been good enough to improve upon any natural talent ?

But yes-you are correct psych so i guess thats why the constant flitting cannot be seen as a disaster

The pool isn't very deep. Thanet has an elderly population, and many youngsters leave the area (often for good) to go to university once they reach 18. Compare that with parts of London where half the population are under 30.

My Arthur says he wants to play for Margate when he grows up :futbolbud2: he is only 7 at the moment but he wont even go to play for Thanet Colts like the rest of the team he was playing with last season ( I did give him the choice!) I'd be the proudest mum on the terrace if he did ;)

Would feel good like filling out a form for Tom and then being involved in his transfer to Fulham !!!! If he lets me down on those two points he is out of the house!!!!
