Chesham vs slough

Recommended Posts

Positives from yesterday's Chesham game was that Nathan Bowden Haase looked in great shape and I thought he was excellent throughout. He combined well with Alex Brown and given they're both big men, I thought they both put in timely tackles.

In the second half,we actually went with three centre halves by putting Michael Murphy on the left, this allowed Danny Murphy to get forward at every opportunity and given his superb fitness he had an excellent game.

Paul Coyne came on in the second half and appeared a lot calmer and sprayed some good passes around and quietly went about his job.

Both of our goals were well worked and Charlie Mpi took his goal superbly.

Charlie Fanner made some outstanding saves including a excellent stop from a well placed, hard hit penalty and can consider himself unlucky to have conceded four goals.

Dom Marsala put in some fantastic crosses and had plenty of trickery.

Negatives or things we can improve on. All of the team with the exception of one or two need to get fitter. Obviously, Chesham are a higher placed team that are well organized, have some excellent individuals, work hard as a team and play quick, slick football and being that the pitch was in superb condition and it was well watered, the ball zipped around.

Slough to their credit started off well and caught the Chesham defence asleep with a great break leading to a Ben Abbey goal. After that though,in the first half we were chasing shadows. I was surprised that we didn't use three centre midfielders in that first half, especially as Chesham had their first teamers playing because we were run ragged by them in that centre area.Shaun Byrne never got near the ball,as it was all happening so fast. Adam Logie endeavoured and I was surprised they chose to take him off at half time, but to Shaun Byrne's credit he didn't stop working even though it would have been easier to give up.That's why I thought we should have counteracted their midfield duo by crowding them out with the use of three midfielders. It appeared obvious to me,I don't know what other fans think, that we needed a younger, fitter player who would be willing to do the donkey work of chasing lost causes.Sam Bateman would have been useful last night.

Also our forwards couldn't seem to hold the ball up and kept running back too deep to collect it, thus when Marsala and Swift inevitably got the ball, they had very limited options, on who to pass to. Sometimes I think we should use our forwards as forwards rather than using them to get our midfield out of trouble,as this ruins our offensive play.

We really missed Simon Sweeney, as Steve Wales gave Ben Sturgees a torrid time. There's no shame in that, though, as even Sweeney would have had his work cut out playing against a player of Wales calibre.

Good to see Adam Martin in attendance and so while we were beaten last night by the better team, there was also a refreshing feel that if we can iron out some of our issues,we have a squad more than capable of competing in our division. Whether we can win it,we shall have to wait and see...........

I thought I'd just add that when I said that our team needs to get fitter,I don't mean that the Slough team are unfit. We won't after all be playing teams like Chesham every week. Just think we need to be a tad sharper to work better as a team. Thought I'd add this, as I'm now frightened to say anything in case it offends anyone.

we really need to make sure we keep Charlie Mpi. with him our strikeforce looks very much good enough for a title challenge on paper at least.

Sonner, Burnell, Abbey and Mpi - looks massively stronger than what we have had at this stage of the season the past 2 years. though decent players going into last season i believe we had Sonner Sippetts Martin and O'Connor (i think)

I agree Mr. Rebel. I have been very impressed with Charlie Mpi in the games I have seen him (Tring and Chesham). Very, very quick last night.

Agree with both of you. He's just what we need up front. Also he's not scared to run at the goal and knows where the net is. He also puts himself about and is not afraid to get a tackle in on the outcoming opposition defender.

Let's get him signed !

Bit of a shame he hasn't had a bit more pre-season playing time to see if he can forge a partnership up front with one of the other 3.
