Yes, it is true, they were playing a team that had pitch with a slope. They cam down last Thursday and stayed a few hours. They were very grateful.

Second Round

2 0 Sawbridgeworth Town v Broxbourne Borough

A report on this one from another's forum:

Tuesday 6th December

Herts Senior Cup 2nd Round

Sawbridgeworth Town (0)2 Broxbourne Borough V&E (0)0 KO19:45 Att’ce 51

Admission and programme £7 Tea 80p

I almost didn’t get to a game this week. A recent toe injury that prevents me from wearing anything on my feet left me with a dilemma as to how to attend a match without trainers. In the end I decided to don flip flops despite the fact we’re in December. I expected my feet to freeze but I was surprised to find that they didn’t really feel the cold at all. So I’ll still be able to get to games, even if it does mean wearing unseasonal footwear.

Having solved that problem I was then faced with another as my intended game at Waltham Abbey was postponed due to a break in at the club’s dressing rooms. So I had a quick look online and came across this match at Sawbridgeworth.

The first half was largely forgettable, the ball spending far too long in the air, and the closest we came to a goal was after 29 minutes when a Sawbridgeworth header hit the bar. Although the second half showed some signs of bursting into life, a Broxbourne attempt that hit the bar after 67 minutes came nearest to breaking the deadlock. But a minute later the increasingly dominant hosts at last took the lead when they had a shot which took a deflection on its way to hitting the inside of the post before going over the line.

The second goal came with 14 minutes remaining when a Sawbridgeworth cross was dropped by the Broxbourne goalkeeper to allow a Sawbridgeworth player to poke the ball home from close in.

I spent the game in the good company of John Allington, the Bishop’s Stortford programme editor, who is also well known to Ladderman of this parish.

Wondered if someone can help clear this issue up for me! If a player has played in the senior cup is he still able to play in the intermediate version?

The rules didn't really settle my mind on this issue.

Any help would be great!

We had that problem last season - the interpretation given to us is when you have played in a higher grade competiton of Herts Cup you cannot play in a lower grade so the answer to your question would be no

It is not entirely straightforward!

The Herts FA Competition Rules say (page 111):

"Intermediate Cup

A player who has already played for another Club in the Senior Challenge Cup, Senior Trophy or Intermediate Cup in the same season will be ineligible to play in this Competition. However, if a player has played in one of these competitions, but only for his own club, he will be eligible. Such a player must not have played in 15 or more first team matches in the same season."

This seems strange, but it is to cover a player whose first team plays in the Senior Cup or Senior Trophy, and whose Reserves play in the Intermediate Cup. Subject to the 15 game rule (raised to 20 for Semi Final and Final), a player can represent his First Team in one cup and his Reserve Team in the Intermediate Cup.

So if you've played in the Senior Cup for one club, you can't play in the Intermediate Cup for another club.

Hope that helps Monkeymonkey8

Thanks for coming back to me on this.

So the way it works is you can play in both as long as you haven't played more than 15 first team games or played for another club.?

I think they need to rewrite that ruling as it seems to go a bit round the houses!

Yes - if you are talking about playing for the one club it's ok so long as you haven't played in 15 or more recognised first team games (exluding friendlies) during the season so far. Please bear in mind that for a 100% reliable ruling on this, the Herts FA should be consulted - I'm just reading their Rule book!

Uncle T - How grateful were Stevenage Borough out of interest, did they cross the Club's palm with silver

There is no such club as Stevenage Borough - they dropped the 'Borough' when gaining promotion to the Football League.

My apologies to both Oxhey Jets and Leverstock Green, guess I should have waited until I had received the full details with match officials and kick off times before posting.

If memory serves me right both have / had restrictions relating to planning permission & times the lights can be on until hence the slightly earlier kick offs. We would have had something similar if we had been able to get lights at our old ground
