Players Reponse

STFC Player

Recommended Posts

I probably won't be making a habit of commenting on here, however I think it's necessary to get the player's viewpoint across to hopefully calm the fears and concerns that have been raised on here the last few days.

First of all Saturday, as a team we are aware that the second half performance was not good enough, and well below the expectations we set for ourselves. However, it may have been exactly the wake up call we needed after a series of comfortable wins and a reasonably strong first half display against a team from a higher league. We will try to put in a much better and more consistent display at Chesham tomorrow tonight, and then go from there.

With regards to player/management holidays, unfortunately sometimes these things can't be avoided but rest assured, Steve has been in regular contact with all of us while he's been away, and as players we also take a level of personal responsibility for our fitness, and I know many of the boys have been doing extra sessions in their own time to ensure we're ready for the big kick off on the 13th.

As a team we are in no doubts as to what is expected of us this season, and we certainly care about hitting the ground running from the first game. While there may be some uncertainty over the team that will start the season/players that have signed, please just trust the manager for now and understand he can't show all his cards at this stage, especially as rival team players/managers will be browsing these forums as well as all those connected with STFC - there is a healthy competition for places in most areas and that's needed to keep us on our toes if we want to get promotion out of this level of football.

At the moment it's pre-season, and while we appreciate all your concerns - in fact the large fanbase is one of the things that makes STFC attractive as a club - please give us the benefit of the doubt that we are trying to be as prepared as possible to have a great season, and we look forward to having all your support come the big kick off!

Anyway, I hope that answers a few of your questions and do feel free to come and chat to us after the games - we're not that bad really!

Before there is any negative (or comments which may be perceived as negative) comments I would just like to say that I believe that this message shows that the players actually do care about what we think which can only be a good thing for a club at this level.

the messages by Steve Bateman and this un-named player shows one very important thing the team are together and have for lack of a better word "gelled".
