Steve Bateman-- I found your contribution to the forum this morning( only the third youve bothered to make since you became Slough manager) more than just a bit arrogant. Everyone's time is valuable, not just yours and to offer as little as 10 minutes to discuss the many issues doesnt show a real interest. I also read that you dont ever want your professionlism or commitment questioned well Im afraid you will be unlucky there if this season brings more of the clueless classless displays we suffered through last season and your teams continue to be so unfit and lacking in stamina. I think you need to stop living in the past Its true you had some limited success years ago but your job now is to win something for Slough Town Im a great believer in the old biblical saying " By their fruits ye shall know them" It doesnt matter what you say or what you promise or what you claim or how high you pile the bullshit you will be judged by your results. If you do start getting it right this coming season you will have my full support and encouragement but I wont hesitate to comment when I feel things are wrong and wont be disuaded by the Bateman groupies on the forum.

I think you are forgetting that when Steve Bateman took over the club we were at the bottom of the league and within 2-3 seasons we have made the play offs TWICE and now we all want automatic promotion. I personally think that is a pretty good achievement!!!

I believe that Steve Bateman will lead us to promotion and i don't know many other managers in our league who are willing to ggive up even just 10 minutes to talk to the fans (unless the club is going bust)

Wow, this place keeps getting better and better...

...believe it or not Steve (and from the looks of the last couple of days you could find it hard to believe), there are plenty of people on here who are willing to get behind you and the team!

Cook ham Rebel or shall I call you Grant or Browny or another keyboard anon name ?

I am back from my family holiday on Wednesday and will be at training at the Polish Club this Thursday at 7.15pm. You are invited to come and find me....I'll be the tanned fella with blond hair...I'll give yo.u 10 minutes of my very valuable time to ask any questions you want regarding players, management and all matters football. What I wont accept is the [censored] stirring you seem intent on continuing. Please don't ever question my committment or professionalism.

Hi Steve

I find it very uncomfortable that you have singled me out, yes I started the debate but a few others have also had their say. It is the same at any club, some fans will agree with the managers methods, others will not, thats always been the way in football.

Regarding your request to meet, I am going to decline as I would not feel comfortable coming to speak to you about this as I am only stating my views on a fans forum, no more no less, coming to meet you in person would make me feel very uncomfortable as it could lead to me not wanting to support Slough anymore. I am not sh*t stirring, I am only stating my view and some people have agreed others haven't which I respect. Its only a forum debate after all. Having supported Slough since the Dolphin days, I have witnessed abuse towards past Slough managers that I do not agree with, I am human and will not agree when I see something I do not agree with, I've never been a yes man. I love watching our club and when the season is in full swing I don't abuse even in the face of defeat, my views which started after Saturdays friendly were just in pure frustration at the manner of the defeat and that we haven't seen our 1st choice team yet which worries me, I want you to take us up, I am not calling for you to be sacked, I would never do that!!!

Lastly, with regards to the "Cook ham Rebel or shall I call you Grant or Browny or another keyboard anon name?" comment, some people are comfortable with giving their proper names on here others aren't, thats the world we live in, call me a coward or whatever, but my name is not Grant or Browny, you are wide of the mark if you have assumed that!!!

Good luck for the season, I wish you all the best, I won't comment in future just view the forum as I didn't think this would cause this much trouble, so please accept my apologies and also I apologise to all the other Slough fans I have upset with my views.

i,m not close to the management or the trust but if you lot cannot man up and talk face to face when invited to(3spirit you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink) i;e you can go into the clubhouse on match days but it is not a stipulation that you have to drink. cookham rebel do you have the courage of your convictions if so go meet the man and air them and have your mind put at ease, and irish adrian if you jump on the band wagon be prepared to fall off and get hurt, as i said before it does not matter what is happening at the moment it is only pre season the operative being PRE the real test starts a week on saturday and i hope you will all be there, in other words put up or shut up.

I do feel Cookham Rebel is recieving somewhat unfair critisism after all he is only stating the truth and fact. The management team was not present at the game on saturday and the team which played on saturday was missing what would best be described as the first choice players.Fact or fiction ?

The point of the forum is so that all can voice their opinion.I hope we do not get to the stage where we are bullied into writing only flattery, after all this is England a country renowned for free speech.I would advise Steve(Bateman)not to log on to the forum and have the confidence to do the job his way,he does not have to answer to us.Maybe his anger would best be directed at the attitude and indiscipline of some of his players.Different story, different game, hopefully a better result at Chesham!

I stumbled across this thread, and am sure that my views will be unwelcome by some but If my teams manager went on holiday half way through pre season I would be livid. How are you supposed to get a proper feel for any new players.I appreciate he may have a young family but sometimes you have to give these things up to manage a football club and it's not exactly setting a good example to any players

Whilst Bateman was away he asked John Lawford to step in (i assume it was Bateman who asked) and Steve knows John fairly well having been part of the same coaching team in the last few seasons and so it is fair to assume that he would trust John Lawford and be sure that when steve is back that he will be informed about everything which has happened.

also it is possible that Bateman has planned the holiday break and has given Lawford some pre- prepaired team line-ups and player combinations to try and test. This means that even though he is not physically there he will know what is happening.

Year after year .. I' ve said please wait for 10 proper games of football to see how we are going ..this pre season madness has really got to stop , its neither good for the team/manager or the management committee ... or in fact our Chairman and supporters !

Yes we all have opions and what we want to see is a successful team ... but this pre season madness is just ridiculas !

Please for the sake of the team and supporters ... Stop now please weather you think your right or wrong or have a right to comment on this

forum ... please wait for the real season to start at least...

..... as i said before it does not matter what is happening at the moment it is only pre season

And its during PRE season where the hard yards are put in , ask Steve Bateman or anyone else that has run a football team at any level wether it matters or not ? i think Cookham Rebel raised some pretty fair points after witnessing the team getting a drubbing from what i am told is a steady but nothing spectacular Bedford team , now there are several reasons why it may have happened perhaps they are ahead of us in preparation for the big kick off ? that really should not be the case at this stage ! or they had they're settled first team out there and we were still mixing and matching ? you have to hope its the latter and it was just a bad day at the office that will be quickly remedied when we see our own " first " XI take to the field , hopefully before too long as playing catch up to teams that hit the ground running is never easy and i think that was pretty much what CR , Nathan , myself and others would be just a tad worried about ? everyone wants to see Steve take this club up theres no doubt about that and expressing the odd concern about that really is not worthy of getting tarred and feathered is it ? :)

Hi,

I have not posted many times and of course everyone is entitled to have their own opinion and express it. I believe that everyone who is posting has the best interests of Slough Town FC at heart.

I have seen the performance of some players affected by the negative comments flung. Somehow, I don't think this improved the outcome do you?

I am also clear that if we want the very best for our team, we need to be solidly behind them. In recent years I have seen some heavy drubbimgs and the supporters were still supporting the team. Surpisingly we do much better and there is much criticism. Fine, but a team with the full backing of the supporters will do best. We have seen thye lift this gives the team.

I have seen many Slough sides since the 60s and togetherness of the club with the supporters is more likely to result in us winning.

For all it is worth I am giving 200% backing to Steve.

UP THE REBELS!

I agree Hayes I remember game after game being beaten 6-0 or such like, and flipping Boreham Wood playing a bloody tune every time they scored a goal I could of rammed that bloody tannoy down their throats!! but we still got behind the team and thats probably why a lot of away teams put STFC as the best supporters.

I think Wimbledon fans still talk about the 9 goal win over us, not for gloating but for the great support we gave our team.
