Pre-Season

Recommended Posts

Pre-season is about getting your fitness levels up and trying out different players/moves. The result of the game is of no consequence. Watch the starting eleven against

Thame, that will probably be the team that starts the league game against Aylesbury. Over and out.

Agree with you to a large extent WR.

Certainly in the early and mid stages of pre-season results mean nothing due to getting fitness levels up, trying out lot of players and new formations etc.

In the latter stages of pre-season i.e. 2 weeks to go I think results do start to matter. To me it shows that things are starting to come together. With the results confidence levels will start to build and come August 13th we are ready to, as Nathan would say 'hit the ground running'.

The squad is pretty much the same as last year as well so I don't really see how they need to "gel".

My advice would be to do what I do and don't bother with the friendlies, maybe watch a bit of test cricket instead or go on holiday somewhere. Then just turn up on the 13th have a few beers and enjoy the game.

We've got a new centre back pairing, new players in midfield and up front who will all need to 'gel'

My advice would be to do what I do and carry on going to the friendlies because I like to see the new players who have been introduced to the squad, see how they are 'gelling' and see how the team is progressing before the start of the new season.

We should be thankful we have enough stability at the club these days to even be having this debate about pre-season. It wasn't that long ago that the summer months consisted of campaigning outside the Town Hall trying to ensure we had any sort of club to support in August.

Whoot! People are now quoting my forum posting to back up their own arguements! My life has not been in vain... :bounce: :yay: :dance (2):

Seriously though, pre-season can be ever so important. Remember the one we had for the 2007/08 season? I know we had just come through the debacle of the 2006/07 season and were lucky to still have a club to support, but nonetheless it was a shambles for pre-season and the shambles continued throughout the season proper.

WR, another £1000 would cheer me up immensley, thanks for your vote of confidence that it would.

It wouldn't be quite as effective as say, the club fulfiilling expectations and challenging for promotion however. I, along with anybody else, would much prefer the latter.
