What happend to us?

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I wrote on this forum asking if anyone could throw any light on the arranged friendly that I had help get together against Mildenhall Town F.C. I was hoping that maybe some of you guys might know and if not I was hoping that Steve might know. In the end I was able to contact Ian Ansell who had been on holiday and he told me that while he was away Mr Edwards had changed the fixture as it was a better game for BTFC. This I can understand but I don't understand why it was put on the website before anyone at Mildenhall was told at all and if I had not contacted Ian I wonder if Mr Edwards was even going to bother telling us! We are not a big club at Mildenhall probably about the same size as Billericay were when I first started watching them in the 70's and this was a big pre season game for us that we had already advertised in the town. To his credit, Ian apologised and offered to send the Billericay U18 team from last year instead but to be honest though we were grateful as we felt we would have no time to arrange anything else the club felt it was an insult and I having been a supporter of BTFC for nearly 40 years felt sad embarassed and let down. The irony of the situation is that today Lowerstoft Town who are in the Ryman Prem have called us to ask if they can come to play us in a friendly next week and they want to send their full first team. Our Manager Christian Appleford contacted me and knowing my connection with the club asked how I felt about a fixture change as he would rather play a team that are better and are also going to bring a fair amount of supporters with them and after a chat with our secretary this is what we are now going to do and I have of course contacted Ian Ansell to inform him of the change and as the true gent that he always was he said he quite understood and maybe we could arrange a friendly for next season. Billericay have always been a top club in my opinion and I have had some of my best days there from celebrating the FA vase wins to laying the concrete with Keith Reilly and Ron (when he was supporters club chairman) in the later years I was happy to steward there with Tracy whom I even married 3 years ago on the pitch! along the way I have met great people including Len Dewson, Phill Wiltshire, Roy and Joyce, Gary and Emma, Ryan, Joe, Ian, Simon, Steve and Sharon the list goes on and on. Billericay was for me, as I am sure it is for most of you a very imporatnat part of my life and I was really quite excitied about welcoming you guys to Recway. So what happened? and why was Craig Edwards allowed to just change this fixture without being polite enough to even let us know first before it was put on the website that there had been a fixture change? One thing I am certain of is that John Newman would never have done such a thing and I hope that we at Mildenhall Town FC never do it either. I wish the blues all the luck for the coming season and watch out for us in the cup I see you have drawn Soham in one of the cups and they have a few of our old players.

Let me put the record sraight Mick.

When Dover asked for the game Crag rang me and asked what I thought, Ian was also .aware of a discussion and subsequent decision.

It wasn't the U 18's who were to play you, It was the U21's

I don't know why Mildenhall were not informed soonest, or included in the loop of information, but I do know it wasn't us disreguarding, or disrespecting you guys, It will have been an oversight, no more, no less.

Good luck for the season, Say hello to Tracy for me (I'm assuming you're still talking to me ) and if you make it to Soham. I'll buy you both a beer, or Three..
