FA restructuring of Step 5

Recommended Posts

So the FA have started looking at turning the 14 Step 5 leagues into 12. They will start consultations with leagues including the CoCo in September and then start talking to clubs in October.

General consensus is that the biggest problem is in the South East with too many leagues feeding into the Isthmian and Southern Step 4 leagues.

Most at danger of being demoted to Step 6 leagues would seem to 'County leagues' like Essex and Kent but there is a major chance of things affecting others leagues like the Sussex and of course the CoCo. Various proposals I have seen show the boundaries changing and maybe moving westwards. Whether this league will retain its identity of the CoCo is unknown right now. I've heard talk of a Home Counties North/South West. Bear in mind nothing has been decided and it wouldn't come into force until after the 2012/2013 season. Whatever happens it is very likely that clubs in the South East at Step 5 will probably have to do more travelling although they will still do a lot less than their Northern counterparts.

Any early thoughts on this?

I guess it makes it simpler for promotion from Step 5 - 12 Champion teams replacing bottom 2 from each of the 6 Step 4 Leagues.

Could now be the time for Step 5 Clubs / League to push for a play-off i.e 2nd placed Step 5 Leagues play off against 3rd bottom Step 4 Leagues for a place at Step 4???

Obviously something needs to be done as 14 does not go into 12 well.

I can see one league comprising of West Oxfordshire, Berkshire, North Hants and West Surrey teams.

No idea. Nothing to do with me. This restructuring could directly involve the CCL and the teams within it and so should certainly stay here as a topic.
