Hornchurch 2 Billericay 1

Ah well, another season, another disapointment. I thought we did well enough to get a draw and once again the officials allowed the oppo to make decisions for them. Story of this season. No way was their 1st goal a penalty, the guy slipped and the ref was in no position to give it. Perhaps he just wanted to make up for our penalty, who knows. As for the rest of his and a certain lino's performance...well...unbelievable.

Yes we missed Ansell, that I would agree with but I thought both teams were lethargic at times and as I said a draw would've been a fairer result.

Now lets get on with the league and getting us out of the "hole" that we have dug for ourselves. No game on Tuesday so the lads can have a rest and on to Bishops Stortford on Saturday. Lets all consign today to history and get on with supporting the team for that coming fixture.

Much improved display today against a good side.

Definate penalty (our one) Why was their keeper allowed to stay on the pitch though, surely the rule states that as he was the last man it was a sending off offence?

Then the BIG one! only one person inside that ground must have thought it was a pen, unfortunately for us it was the only one that mattered. 1-1.

Quite a few dubious decisions but i guess you have to expect that at this level, but those 2 cost us.

Roll on the cliches - 'always next year'

'concentrate on the league'

Great support too thought we had at least 70% of the crowd today, lets make sure everyone goes to stortford and gets behind the team in the same way as today

70%? Dont make me laugh, there was bout 100 of ya max, and the gate was 800 and sumfin, so that aint no where near 70%.

Get behind the team the same why you did today? what stand there and sing for the first 5 mins and then stand there doing nufin for the other 85.

i thought this match was an accurate precis of our whole season. i thought we tried pretty hard but just lacked the quality to get the result (a draw) that we deserved. the officials were terrible and we once again conceded a crucial goal in the last 10 minutes.

i dont think there was any doubt about our pen but gay should have been sent off as he was last man. the ref (who was later seen driving out of the stadium in a new sports car, with an empty brown envelope masking the "Urchins number one fan" car sticker) bizarrely ordered a retake but hockton kept his cool to score from the retake.

their penalty has to be the softest i have seen all season. i was a long way away but the urchins fans i spoke to at half time thought it was doubtful too (they were obviously not the morons who post on this forum as they could hold an intelligent conversation)

and in the second half hockton was denied a second when he broke through to score but was denied by the lino's flag when west later admitted he had slipped and not been fouled.

we were missing three players who would have started in taylor, stephens and ansell which hurt us a bit and we could only get an hour out of andy jones. i thought our two quality players hockton and jj played well (great save by john from john) and dormer showed he has the ability when played centrally.

it was a bit of an eye opener in terms of the haves and have nots. 6.50 to get in 1 a programme etc. mark graham sitting it out in the bar as hornchurch's latest signing. full marks to the bloke who decided to employ lots of attractive young ladies behind the bar. i thought it was the carlsberg ad for a minute!!

oh well the fa cup passes us by for another season. i'm still hopeful we have enough to be at least in contention for a conf south spot but we need to start winning and that starts saturday.

I think this one is going to be remembered for the men in blacks decisions, which to an extent did alter the way the way the game went. The hornchurch lads very much conned the ref a few times, but our lads cant hide behind this. The truth is we had a penalty and our only other shot was one Luke had in the second half. I dont recall hornchurch flooding our goal with chance after chance either, but we are never going to win games unless we start creating a few chances and that starts from the midfield who just dont seem to want the ball. Can you remember Hunter getting stuck in? Luke, as one of the tallest players out there, doesnt win any where near the number of headers he should. His first touch was dissapointing too. I know he is short of match fitness but you dont have to be fit to jump for a header. Bearing in mind we had 3 forwards out there today, to create one shot was bad, and im sure Justin will be aware of this. I thought hornchurch had more of the possession than us but as we restricted them to middle of the pitch and kept their chances to a minimum, i thought we were good for the draw.

Can someone tell me why Andy Douglas felt the need to turn on the Billericay fans at the end. Im certain during his brief spell with us he was never subjected to any bad comments, so why did he feel the need to laugh at our fans along with Borgy? I had a bit of respect for George Borg until now, but he too pointed and laughed at our fans. surely George would have know how much we could have done with a good cup run yet he laughs at us. Justin was not a happy man walking off the pitch but does this give a hornchurch player the right the boot the ball at him?

yes we got beaten but if I was a fan of a club that was spending a thousand plus for a players weekly wage, i would be a little dissapointed with the return. we have played them twice now and on both occasions they didnt look anything special. But as far as the hornchurch players conduct goes, well, its not going to improve if your manager encourages your players to laugh at the away fans after you have scraped a winner in the last five mins, knowing you should have had ten men for 70 minutes of the game and that you got an equaliser from a penalty that never was.

a few things into perspective methinks....firstly well done to Ricay....good numbers...we reckon about 150...well behaved and a good performance from your team...

truth is though...we played under par and still bossed the posession...always looking the more likely to score....I thought that Gay would have gone and also that it was a penalty..I also thought that ours wasn't....lucky two breaks there for us...

the 'goal' that hockton scored was not a disallowed goal...the whistle had gone well before he 'scored' and he could well have been booked for slotting it past Gay who never bothered to try to stop it...

I thought that your tactics on Jon Keeling were outrageous...he was hacked all over the place and had no protection from the useless ref....he was for me the MOM....

your Chairman was ranting and raving about our players giving it loud and large to yours in the dressing room after the game....two issues here....

it was the same as your players did to us at your place and what was your chairman doing in the dressing rooms anyway....

he obviously doesn't quite understand players...they were all drinking together in the bar afterwards...as they should be and always will be...somewhat embarrassing that from the good Mr Moores...

I spoke to Justin immmediatley after the incident...it was nothing and he laughed....

nice to speak to one or two of your fans and to hear their views on all things Ricay and to feel their passion for your club....great stuff and at the end of a good day and a passionate cup tie I went home having thoroughly enjoyed the experience...

well done Ricay fans...you are welcome back to the stadium anytime....

Thanks Unc, altho I'm dissapointed to read about players and Borg if true (lets face it, these things do get a little out of perspective). Can't understand Y Douglas did what he did, if true, as he has always maintained that Billericay was a friendly club and altho there were some comments going Goerge's way, they were in jest as he does (did) have the respect of the 'Ricay supporters.

To be truthful I did like the bar (altho there could be beer on tap) but the ground...well, the running track does restrict the standing areas (sorry, can't sit a footie match) but overall, disapointed with the overall result.

I thought we played Hornchurch quite well as with all of Borgs teams, restrict 'em in the middle and they can have all the possession they like but will do bugger all with it as Borg likes wingers (hence Mark Graham - a good player but can be erratic - I prefer his brother as he can really cross the ball well).

At the mo, the season between the two clubs is level pegging at one game a piece with 'Ricay shading it 3-2 on goals....Onwards to the decider in January. Look forward to it

I think the Borg reaction was as a result of some of the stick he was getting from a few Ricay fans...doesn't make it right of course but there was a few goings on behind his dugout in the second half....even the press boys passed comment about it....

don't know about young Douglas who is a very nice kid...I'll find out though....probably reacting to some harmless wind ups...passion was high yesterday and the players surely felt it on the pitch....

no matter...it was always gonna be a good day for someone and the stage is now set for some serious rivalry between us...lets all try and keep it healthy and make sure that we are always welcome at each others grounds...

we shall work hard at that I can assure you all....

good luck until January... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
