West London non-league football club Bedfont Town believe they have agreed a unique sponsorship deal for their new kit.

The Evo-Stik League Southern Division 1 Central outfit have forged a special relationship with new Camden based rock band TRIBES who have just signed an album deal with Island Records to be released in October (www.tribesband.com) it was worn for the first time by the club in the London Borough of Hounslow Challenge Cup at The Orchard against Brentford on 24th July.

BTFC Chairman Doug White said "this must be a first in football and to know the TRIBES boys is to love them. They are all having replicas and there have already been enquiries from their fast growing fan base. I hope we can cope with the demand from their success and as we will be saving the kit for our Cup exploits, they will have to deal with the interest if we make the first round proper of the FA Cup!"

Both the club and TRIBES have had 12 months of progress and recent praise by AFC Wimbledon’s manager Terry Brown following the impressive 1-1 draw in the pre-season memorial game to John Morris has seen commentators jump to tip The Peacocks for the coming season, only their third at senior level, and at the same time the band were last week given the quote "the UK's best new band since Arctic Monkeys” by Artrocker magazine with similar endorsements from NME.

With flattering forthcoming friendlies against Dagenham and Redbridge and Staines Town, White adds "the commercial relationship is not as important as the joint exposure that we can enjoy and it is about being recognised for your ambition and creativity which makes you an interesting club to be talked about. For a band with the world at their feet possibly to empathise with our needs is so credible and shows they are real football boys with the right attitude and background and we hope to do them proud this season.”

Did this 'unique' sponsorship deal ever materialise out of interest, I see that Doug White has recently severed ties with Bedfont Town

Green Pea - Why did the mercurial Mr White sever ties with the Club out of interest

I know of a number of reasons he gave publicly, i.e. 30 years at the club, taking it as far as he could, financial constraints, blamed others for working against him etc, however you will need to ask him to be sure. The timing wasn't great but he's gone now and everybody at the club are picking up the pieces and working hard together to reach the end of the season with their dignity in tact.

Unlike other clubs that have hit very hard times, we have no debts to third parties and we've been putting what we can aside for imminent bills from the Leagues and FA’s. The players have been absolutely brilliant and all credit goes to the management team of Garry Haylock, Jon-Barrie Bates, Lol Brimicombe and Steve Honey who have been excellent in motivating them.

Why don't you pop along to one of our final home matches of the season, may be the last opportunity to see us play.

Green Pea - There has got to be more to Doug White’s decision to retire than meets the eye, he wouldn’t have stepped down and walked away into the night just like that:
