Level Playing Field Part 2.

Think the League should look at their Fixtures again re C.C.L Div 1.and not a knock at Guernsey F.C.how can they have come up with the following:-

Guernsey's last 5 League Fixtures are at Home.

8 out of their last 10 games are at home.

There last away Fixture is in February.

And effectively they have a 3 week winter break, with not having to play, over the Christmas and New Year break.

Either the planning for this is factoring in bad weather,or good League Cup runs.

Source of this information The Guernsey Press

.

But I personally think it could be a good Publicity Coup, just imagine if they were in with a shout of promotion with 10 games to go,what sort of crowds they could attract at home 3/4000 +.Hope it happens for them, might recoup some of their outlay.

The other side of that coin is that - given their promotion hopes according to many will rest on their away form, their season could be all over by Xmas coffee%20(2).gif

Can fully understand why, with all the travelling involved, the majority of Guernsey's away fixtures are scheduled when the weather is less likely to cause postponements - but still reckon 3 or 4 games will get called off & need rescheduling to give the fixture list a more even balance towards the season end

From the Guernsey Facebook page :-

At the request of GFC, the league’s fixture secretary has scheduled the club’s home fixtures around the Guernsey Rugby Club’s games, which were announced a couple of months ago, and other early season commitments at Footes Lane such as the Gaelic football tournament and athletics meetings. This will result in the club playing five away games out of six during September and October, which will provide an early test for head coach, Tony Vance’s squad.‘This is clearly going to be a huge and demanding period for us and this is exactly why we will need the kind of player numbers I have been talking about recently. Everyone is going to have to play their part in what will be a very important group of games,’ said Vance.

GFC chairman Steve Dewsnip added, ‘The fixture schedule is kind to us in that we do not have any games scheduled over the Christmas and New Year holiday periods, for which we are grateful, however having joined the non-league pyramid system the important thing is that we can now start to make travel and other plans for the season ahead. This will be a very exciting year for Guernsey and we hope to see as many islanders supporting the team as possible - both home and away.’

I think the benefits of potential revenue & publicity of Guernsey in the CCL far outweigh any possible negatives.... Non club members please weigh this up before we go on a long negative thread here. The kudos of the CCL1 will no doubt increase as will the the standard thanks to Guernsey's inclusion & that is good for everyone. I'm 100% sure the CCL committee have the interests of all clubs, and our leagues status foremost in their minds, when they make decisions relating to fixtures. I started a thread a couple of weeks ago asking 'how good are Guernesy?' ...a simple question which a couple of hundred threads later when I revisited seemed to be hijacked..... Lets turn this one in to a positive thread and ensure Guernesy see the truth.....that a vast majority of us welcome them with open arms....and are looking foward to their hospitality more than any other game this season.

Smudge, fixture scheduling was always going to be a little bit different as we are based on an island and the home pitch is used by other sports. Rugby has first call on foots lane, then athletics and lastly football.Another day and another topic by smudge at knocking guernsey. Predictable, sad and jealous.

I think you might be being a tiny bit harsh on Smudge, this time!

He has form for questioning the decision of the CCL committee and I can sort of see his point, in so far as GFC will be considered by many to be promotion contenders and, should that come to pass, ending the season with a run of home games could be helpful to GFC.

However, as always, the devil is in the detail and in CCL1 the "perfect" fixture list of home/away/home/away fixtures in rotation is never going to happen. There are just too many variables. Last season, because of Ashford's fixture commitments, Staines Lammas started with a run of away games and then had a run of home games later. They're not the only club groundsharing with a Step 3/4/5 team and Worcester Park share with cricket. There are plenty of issues to consider and AC has a track record of doing his best to deal with them all.

Smudge is clearly passionate about this League but, as a groundhopper with no direct involvement in a club or the competition itself, he finds himself asking a lot of questions in public where the information is out there, but kept "in house" by the officials of the League and/or the clubs involved. Therefore, some of what looks inflammatory when viewed on a screen is really a mixture of curiosity and frustration.

I think if you actually read the original post properly, Smudge sees a positive for GFC and the League in this list, but was just trying to understand how it had been compiled. You've helped him out there and I'm sure he'll thank you!

I give up,maybe it is time for me to move on to pastures new, started a thread promoting their game against Bristol City.which was merged Have posted a thread about next Wednesday's game against Horley, that will probably get merged also. And yet when anyone goes to the Official C.C.L. Site, are they promoting anything about Guernsey F.C. the answer is NO.Yes I understand why the fixtures are as they are,but just hope that when they get promoted the Premier sides do not moan,as I am sure this was all explained at the meeting when you voted them in.Like Worcester Park last year 8 of their last 10 games were at home, even if they had to play some at Carshalton, they won the League it is a great advantage to any side,as it will be to Guernsey F.C.Interestingly their 1st game is against the best organised and courteous side in C.C.L.1 Knaphill, there last home Game is against (Ashford Towns Groundsharers) Staines Lammas Where as is tradition the Championship Cup is presented.Guernsey will win Div 1 mark my words.

I don't know why you'd want the official League website to specifically promote Guernsey, over and above the other member clubs of the League? A story like GFC will have its own momentum and is surely of benefit to the League? There's no need for the League to do any more, whereas there might be areas where they can do more to promote ALL clubs further down the line.

Bomaya obviously feels that concentrating the bulk of Guernsey-related discussion into a single thread is of benefit to the smooth running of this forum and, as a moderator, that's his call. I don't think merging threads should be taken as any sort of criticism of the originator of that thread.

Similarly, as I tried to say before, you can't get a perfect fixture list in any league, and certainly not CCL1. Yes, Guernsey will finish on a run of home games as things stand but, by definition, they will have to go through a run of away games first. You're right that it's not ideal, but what else can be done?

Seriously, Smudge, you clearly care deeply about this League and have a lot of energy. Why not get involved with a local club? Then, you'd be inside the tent peeing out as opposed to outside the tent peeing in, you'd probably learn a great deal about the challenges running a club at this level poses and you'd hopefully make a positive difference to that club and therefore the League.

Is the league still sponsored by Cherry Red Records? The reason I ask is that I haven't seen a single mention of Cherry Red in any new items to do with Guernsey FC or on their website. Considering how much publicity they're already generating I'd be a bit pissed off if I was sponsoring a league and not getting a mention. Blue Square certainly wouldn't allow it!

I know punk didn't bypass the island (I know someone from there who used to sing a Riot Squad song out loud called F**k The Tories but reworded it to make it F**k the Tourists) so c'mon Guernsey - get advertising Dead Kennedys and Alien Sex Fiend cds and dvds like the rest of us!

I did not know the league even had a sponsor! The point I was trying t make was that due to local difficulties GFC were always likely to have some allowances made. I am sure there are very good reasons why the fixtures have panned out as they are. Flights, other users of the home pitch and perhaps even requests of other clubs wanting to travel at certain times of the year. Doing fixtures is a nightmare of a job and not one that any sane person would want unless they were a little but nutty! Lol

Beano, thanks for your comments,I have been involved with a Club at this level and above, namely Croydon Athletic,1997-2003,so I do know what goes on,From opening the gates on Monday morning to locking the gates on Sunday Night.Worked in many capacities there,Gateman,Groundsman,Painting, helping with Building improvements,Tea Hut,Cleaning the Club and changing rooms,,Car Parking,Mascot Organiser for the young kids at games against Woking,Kingstonian,Aldershot,Crystal Palace,in front of crowds of 1000,s,where they got to meet and have a picture taken on the pitch, with the Officials, and warm up with the Players,oh then as is my way got each mascot,by courtesy of a jug, money from the Players.Minimum £25.Was asked to go on the Committee which I did for 2 Meetings,at the 1st one, enquired why we we charging 50p for a glass of carbonated water, they called coke,,that cost 8p to produce. At the 2nd meeting I asked to see the accounts, which was a request to far in their eyes,so their ended my involvement,do not like secrecy you see, means something untoward is going on.Bet the current Committee at Croydon Athletic had wished they had taken Smudge's Line, rather than basking in the glory of Dodgy money, that nearly sent them to the wall.Must say though they were great times, some fabulous people, great parties, never ever to be repeated in Non League,3 kids matches on the main pitch on Sunday's,parents, kids all supporting one another, and spending loads of money.Upwards of £3000 taken every week, and all my work done for nothing by me.Made many friends though that I STILL SEE TO THIS DAY.

Smudgie, you know me. I didn't merge the thread to annoy you! You could always unmerge it yourself!! Or ask me to and I'd oblige. :)

Correct, thanks Beano. I left the bristol City thread alone until after the game and then merged it. No need for a separate thread at that point in my opinion. And yes, unless someone strongly objects I would probably do the same with the Horley thread after Wednesday. Anyone else think this is wrong?

I do object to this merging, like yesterday when you merged B.J.R's 'thread to Saturday 23 results, bet he was pleased, are you going to do the same with Buckers thread as well. How can clubs get any publicity for themselves, which is my main aim on this site and always has been,at least they made an effort to post a thread, unlike many others who never start a thread. Why not merge all my well done threads as well, and why we are on about it,we have a young poster on here now 15 yrs of age,bet she or her parents were pleased to learn a new word yesterday that was in massive letters, that was not deleted,in fact you replied to it,hence doubling its impact. Please take my name off thebottom,as led by,i no longer want to do it.

I admit to being surprisd on my thread being merged, but it didn't really bother me.

I find it easier, pre-match day, to have a thread for comments on up and coming games, and then, AFTER THE EVENT, a new thread started along the lines of...... RESULTS (and the date.) Otherwise you end up trolling backwards and forwards through over 100 posts.

Just a suggestion, not a criticism.

Any thoughts, Bom ?
