Chicks boss Pete Buckland was delighted with the performance on Saturday away to Sussex County League One opposition, Worthing Utd.

Dorking took a first team squad of 17 players down to the south coast, with a second Dorking side hosting Walton and Hersham Reserves at the Big Field Brockham the same afternoon, showing the growing strength in depth at first and U18 team level.

Worthing made Dorking very welcome and the pitch was in good condition, but it was clear from the onset that the Sussex side were eager to put one over their Combined Counties League opponents, some feisty tackles being committed early in the game, the three match officials having very good games throughout the match.

It did not take Chicks long to control the game, in fact a 1-0 lead at half time to a Tyrone Oliver goal was not a fair reflection of the game, with Dorking squandering many good chances. However, Dorking carried on where they left off in the second period and it didn’t take Chicks long to re-assert their authority, soon after the restart Joe Chandler making it 2-0 and minutes later Leroy Hyett making it it 3-0.

The Dorking management team then introduced some changes, a total of six substitutions being made for the last 35 mins of the match. The changes did not upset the Dorking flow and Toby Fitzgibbon and Luke Reid rounded off the scoring to give Dorking a deserved 5.0 lead.

Worthing Utd did pull one goal back on 85 mins to make the final score 5-1 to the Chicks , after a mix up in the back line.

Pete Buckland was very pleased with all the players during the game, the starting eleven and the players introduced playing to a very high tempo, which Worthing could not cope with, Buckland was also pleased with the squad’s attitude and togetherness. Considering Worthing are a Division 1 Sussex County side which ranks equally in step level terms with Dorking’s CCL Premier Division status, this was a good victory.

Meanwhile a Dorking reserve/Under 18's side played out a competitive 2-2 draw at home to Walton and Hersham Reserves, Chicks goals coming from Harry Maneh and Jack Murrell.

Dorking’s next game is Wednesday night 27th. July at home to Molesey 7.45 kick-off at Meadowbank, Dorking, in the Dave Wilson memorial trophy. Dorking then face either Epsom or Bookham at home on Saturday 30th. July at Meadowbank as well as sending a first team squad to another Sussex county league one team, Arundel. Then as the season approaches Dorking are at home the following Tuesday to Southwick (2nd. August), then away to Oakwood on the Thursday 4th. August.

The league season starts with an away game at Raynes Park Vale on Satuday 6th. August, with a home game vs Cove on Tuesday 9th. August.

Dorking Squad:- McBride: Currie: Harte: Cox: Chandler: Duffell: Oliver: Ramsey: Dunning: Hyett: Smith.(started).

Substitutes:- Sawyers: Irwin: Clarke: McCann: Fitzgibbon: Read.

Thought Bedfont Sports were the better side Newby, worked harder than us and especially 1st half kept the ball better than us. Considering the players we had playing and also what was at stake for them we were disappointing. Nowhere near the performance at Sandhurst last week apart from one or two bright spots in 2nd half. Dont recall either keeper making too many saves throughout game, at times it was pretty scrappy.

Think you guys will have a good season, Gav and Stu have got a decent side together, liked the young lad wearing 14 out wide a lot, looked a very good prospect for you guys.

Good to meet you though and hope your back playing soon, also good to catch up with Ant and a few guys from Uxbridge before game.

Horley 3 - Chertsey Town 4

WELCOME hayley. do you know the scorers.coffee%20%282%29.gif

Hi 1st 20 mins Chertsey totally dominated and went 1 up with there right winger (no 7) scoring, and playing some good football.

Then Horley decided to start competing and got a goal back through Liam Cox.

Horley then actually played some good football and came close on a couple of occasions.

Horley then went 2-1 up with New signing Kyle sorry done know his surname scoring.

Horley then went 3-1 up with a penalty scored by Chris Weller, the penalty looked a bit of a soft descision but from the start the ref seemed to be consistant with blowing up for most little tackles which normally would be waved on. Im sure JJ would add to this!!

At half time Horley changed 2 defenders, 3 midfielders and the 2 strikers to give the other trialists a run out and I had to go so im afraid I dont know how the rest of the game went so hopefully JJ can add to it with scorers etc.

But overall a good run out in the 1st half from what I see.

agree with most of the report above. Ref had an absolute shocker. Gave a pen that 22 players, 2 linesman and every spectator saw what was a blatant dive yet the ref gave it. Kept giving fouls that just werent happening.

Horley are a decent outfit and Ali has got them playing well and are far more dangerous than their finishing league position shows. Even though they changed half the team at half time i dont think it weakened them other than up front.

Chertsey were again short of numbers thru holidays, work and injuries. Tom McGarry (CB), Tom O'Regan (mid), Andy Crossley (mid), still no 1st choice right back sorted. The Chertsey squad is far from settled and still having trialists turn up. 4 sixteen year olds played for Chertsey yesterday. All of em young enough to be my son!!!

Still, 4 friendlies left and enough time to make it all come together nicely!

Best of luck to Horley who will def do better than last season!

Thanks Johnno,

Yes Ali has done well, also Butch and Mark Lay are great coaches so all in all I think we will have quite a good season, And with the added bonus of Having last seasons Crawley Down reserves managers as our reserves this year the structure looks good.

Best of luck to you and Chertsey.

PS. Sorry I could not buy you that beer at the end of the game but me and my brother came off at half time and had to go. Which made all the difference. lol.

We were too direct and did not play enuf football ... possibly due to pitch. We had a lot of youth and reserve trialists playing and therefore the game was very bitty..... Thought BS played tight and looked good and I think when you get on your pitch then you will play some nice football. Don't think u will let many in and I liked the pace around your forwards. Great passion and superb aggression just think that you all should leave the ref alone no matter what his performance is like. Hope Stu's calf is ok and I would put you in the top 3 this year........

I will b over again this year I am sure and I will get a lift so that I can buy you a beer ...

Andy.

Pitch is bumpy not the biggest either which is strange as theyve only marked one for pre season !!

Lets say alot of the younger felles get a bit to passionate against the refs at this level they make a mistake our lads are not good at biting there tongue which disrupts our game an technique which hopefully will be addressed again this season by management an myself!!

I liked your rw good on the ball an the little cm! Unit uptop i thought was well dealt with by our backline an like you both said scrappy both played few neaf moves but a good workout for both!!

Catch you for a beer soon good luck for the season!!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the information on the weekends game, did they mention anything about how they got on against Bisley FC?

Superted, we lost 5-1 to a very good Bisley FC(aka Farnborough reserves) side conceding 3 goals in the last ten minutes, that's pre season for you. We also have plenty of excuses, Res players, players out, chopping and changing etc but the fact was that some of the boys they have down there are very good players and we were all very impressed with them. The fact that we competed with them for so long was a plus. It was a good work out for our boys who had to do plenty of running.

A few newbies following us this year it seems, would be good to meet you all. :)
