Horley Town v Guernsey F.C. Wed.27th July.

Recommended Posts

Very interesting game. Bit of a Jekyll and Hyde performance. First half they looked good enough to win the CCL1 and compete easily in the CCP. Second half they looked mid-table. Both teams made changes at half-time which clearly benefited Horley more.

Horley's first two goals came in quick succession from long throws so get practising boys. ;)

Well done to Guernsey though, they do have some very tidy players and it was surreal to see Matthew Le Tissier sitting watching Horley Town!

I bellieve that guernsey had a few key players missing, inc the keeper who has played at a higher level.

Guernsey played some nice footbal for whole 90 mins but struggled in second half to find the net. Playing a bit like arsenal and trying to walk it in the net that don't work in CCL I'm afraid. Think they might struggle on the small and less level pitches in div 1 but I'm sure will be strong at home. Still think they will be up there next season. Good luck

Agree with u there scotty u need to be able to mix it in this division u won't be able to play football like that on pitches like farleigh Hartley etc.was a good game didn't think horley was great but then again they got the result and mixed up their Style of play

A very interesting evening from a knaphill point of veiw.

Bear in mind we brought on a 16 year old keeper in the 2nd half and the club captain and at least 4 other first team starters didn't make the trip.

Can't comment on the performance though as i wasn't there.

Well organised night by Horley Town. Decent attendance I would say 200 approx. Guernsey had decent support there and had matt le tissier also in attendance wearing club suit and tie.

The game was the old cliché ' a game of two halves' with Guernsey starting the better and playing some nice stuff on a perfect Horley pitch. They play nice football Guernsey and attack very well. They don’t panic on the ball and are always looking to play. They deservedly took the lead and at the time look very comfortable but as soon as Horley took the restart they should have equalised when a one on one was not taken. Guernsey seemed to go into their shell and again Horley should have equalised. Chances fell to Guernsey late on in first half but they were unable to take them H/T 0-1 GUERNSEY

Second half both teams made changes and it was Horley who started the better with in 8 mins they equalised 10 mins they went 2-1 up and 15 mins went 3-1 up and they were all from direct plays into the box or behind the defence.

Guernsey looked a bit shaken and tried to rally but the remainder of the second half was played out without much fuss. Full Time 3-1 Horley.

Guernsey will take a lot from this defeat; they dominated possession for long periods and played neat attractive football but didn’t punish Horley. Saying that Horley came out second half and looked the better side with clinical finishing.

Overall summary-- Guernsey will do well in the division if they are allowed to dominate. When they get the ball down and play they look a Ryman side and are full of confidence. They look very comfortable on the ball and all can play. They have some outstanding individual players. On the other hand Guernsey’s second half defending was awful and they will get punished in Division 1.

Teams in Division one play more direct and straight down their throats and that wont suit Guernsey.

If allowed to Guernsey will have many games wrapped up in the first half. Not all pitches will be like Horley's which looked in mint condition tonight. For Guernsey to get promotion they will need to be able to change if and when needed...horses for courses!!

Overall a good night Guernsey represented themselves brilliantly on and of the pitch.

Must say it was an enjoyable evening, the game was played in the right way.

In my opinion Guernsey will win the league quite comfortably, I do agree with what someone else said earlier that they will have to mix it up against some teams away but they are well organised and will do that.

They have some quality players and play fast flowing football.

Would like to say they are a great bunch of people and I wish them well.

As Weeble says pre-season means nothing, had a quick chat with a Guernsey player after the game.Their Keeper Chris Tardiff, and captain Sam Cochrane R/B were not present due to work /holidays.Their star player the mercurial Ryan Zico Black (6) was subbed at h/t,as was Ross Allen (10),who scored their goal and looked a class act.The substitutions at half time certainly weakened Guernsey, but worked wonders for Horley. Was the 2nd half team for Horley their choice 11,I think not,but gives the Horley manager a headache in selection ,no mean thing.
