Recommended Posts

I don’t see the point in this competition, why not just award it to Luton Town:

First Round (w/c Mon 21 Nobvember)

1. Arlesey Town v Barton Rovers

2. AFC Dunstable v Leighton Town

3. Stotfold v Bedford Town

Quarter Finals (w/c Mon 30 January)

4. Winner of Match 3 v Luton Town

5. Biggleswade Town v AFC Kempston Rovers

6. Dunstable Town v Winner of Match 1

7. Biggleswade United v Winner of Match 2

Semi Finals (w/c Mon 19 March)

8.

9.

Final

10.

What an incentive for Stotfold to beat Bedford Town at Roker Park but I doubt they will

Since 2004 Arlesey Town (2), Dunstable Town (2), Biggleswade United, Stotfold and Bedford Town have won the Beds Senior Challenge Cup.

One thinks The Hatters have bigger fish to fry in trying to get promotion.

The last time Luton Town won the Beds Senior Cup was back in 1905-06.

Although in 1943-44 the competition was won by Luton Town Colts.

Luton dont normally play in the Beds Senior Cup, up until the Town were relegated to the Conference they hadn't played in the competition for quite a while, instead entering the Beds Premier Cup, which recently has been played between Luton and the Beds Senior Cup winners (unless Dunstable win it!!), Luton are the current Beds Premier Cup champions after beating Arlesey Town in the Final at the begining of last season and face the same team in this seasons final in the a few weeks time.

The two seasons that the club has been back in the Senior Cup have been poor, losing 5-1 at Biggleswade Town when the game was abandoned, but as Luton didnt want to replay the match the result stood and last season a rather lackluster display at Barton saw a 3-0 defeat after extra time.

No doubt that in this seasons competition Luton will again put a young side out and could easily get beaten again, especially as the Senior Cup isnt taken very seriously.

I just automatically assumed that Luton win it every season without breaking sweat, I think even the final is held at Kenilworth Road isn't it

I can't say where the Final is normally played presently but back in 2000-2001 when my dear departed friend Carl Cousins asked me to produce the Final programme the game was played at Arlesey Town FC

Since the new owners have taken over the Final of the Senior Cup has been held at Kenilworth Road, previous to this the Luton boards weren't too interested in the Beds FA competitions

So you knew Carl well then, his untimely death was a very sad loss

Don't get me started on that one. Dunstable Town have one this more than any other club in Bedfordshire, a record 12 times. This achievement was has so far been ignored by the Beds FA.

Yes I knew Carl very well, such a tragedy he was taken so young.

Out of interest how would you like them to recognise the achievement?

Not sure, but some acknowledgment of the achievement would have been nice. Strangely, we were discussing what we would do if we were to win it this season and the Beds FA "want" to have a jolly at our sparkly new stadium. Personally (my view not the clubs) would be to tell them to stick it up their ar$e and arrange our own friendly with Luton Clown.

Do the Beds FA accept that the current Dunstable club have won it 12 times? The current incarnation has been going since 1998 I believe and before that Dunstable were disbanded in the 70's with a new Dunstable club then being formed, or do they accept it and just haven't acknowledged it?

It was no surprise really was it and AFC Dunstable disappointingly bit the dust too
