Bedfordshire FA Senior Trophy Second Round

The result of the day belonged to Renhold United who came from behind to net a 2-1 home win over United Counties League side Potton United. United going ahead in the opening half via Antony Schurek before strikes from Aran Hazelwood on the hour mark and Warren Bentley just five minutes from time saw the home side to victory.

Also winning on home soil were Blunham, they ran out 4-1 victors over AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College. Andy Smith netting a hat-trick alongside a strike from Kier Banghard against a lone reply from Alex Russell.

For Shefford Town & Campton it was a 4-2 away win at Oakley Sports, Michael Jones and Andrew Hayday both netting twice to obtain revenge for an earlier league defeat at the same venue. The home goals coming via Reece Allen and Carl Warner.

Caldecote joined the above trio in the hat for the third round draw after winning 6-2 at Woburn. Dan McClaren giving the home side the lead just two minutes into the contest but by half-time Caldecote were 4-1 ahead thanks to a brace from Tom Cookman to go alongside strikes from Mark Franklin and Kai Griffiths-Shilton. Second period action saw Mark Phillips from the penalty spot increase the lead to 5-1 before Chris Green struck for the Safari Boys six minutes from time only to see Caldecote have the last word when Danny Lane netted goal number six three minutes later.

Alas for Sharnbrook, it was a 1-9 home defeat at the hands of South Midlands League side Crawley Green, Martyn Cain netting their lone goal.

Perhaps the Bedfordshire County League don’t like you unless it’s just coincidence they mentioned the six other ties and not yours

2 1 Renhold United v Potton United

Not SSML but a report on this one from another's Forum:

Bedfordshire Senior Trophy 2nd Round

Renhold United (0) 2 v 1 (1) Potton United

Admission; NONE, programme; £1, refreshments available.

Attendance 25

Renhold made a mockery of their low League position to cause the shock of the round. Potton struggling themselves in the UCL Division One this season were poor. Once Renhold had equalised on 55 minutes they really took the game to Potton and it was another surprise that it took until the 88th minute before Renhold claimed the winner and a place in the next round.

As per usual Keith Harlow had produced an excellent 16 page programme for the game and this venue is well worth a visit if you haven't already been there.

After the game I went to Biggleswade United v St Margaretsbury arriving ten minutes before half time. No goals at HT but an enteraining second half saw the visitors take the game 2-1.

or maybe its because the tie did not involve any Bedfordshire County League sides? Why always look for the negatives Cliff?

Horace - Well it was Craig Bicknell who raised the point about Ampthill Town's game not getting a mention, the Bedfordshire County League website could have still touched on it briefly

You need to count they only mentioned FIVE games, there was no mention of the Cranfield United v Arlesey Town Reserves tie either. But again as Horace mentioned this also didn't feature any Bedfordshire County League sides.

They might not thank me for saying so but I think Ampthill Town have taken over from Hatfield Town this season in terms of the infamous Millwall anthem ‘no one likes us but we don’t care’

Shame this competition is not better regulated.

As a "Senior" competition, the Bedfordshire League's grounds are not the best.

AFC Dunstable played at Blunham last season. You cannot call this a ground, it was a park pitch. No dug outs, pitch not even roped off and no hospitality at all before the game and at half time.

I do know many clubs from that league do not want to play in this competition but as the Bedfordshire League is at Step 7 (god knows how) the Beds FA make them compete in it.
