Margate launch new strips for 2011/12 season

my 2 grandchildren have just arrived in London for the weekend - we were waiting the new kit and buying a total of 3 shirts - not now ! Without prompting they both dislike it on sight. What was wrong with the old kit provided the BFL which never looked right was taken off ? Someone is mistaken here - QPR at home and Wolves away ? No thanks - maybe it will look better with a sponsor name and maybe it will not. Are there any old kits still available ?

The quality of Macron kits is pretty good. Thought the old kit looked pretty tatty towards the end of last season though. I like the hoops and the idea of going back to old colours for the away kit.

I am a great supporter of Jacetts kits though and was pleased to secure their sponsorship for last seasons Minster FC Kit. I wonder why MFC stopped using them. My Grandfather being the old kit manager used to say they washed well and were of a good quality.

I think it's an improvement on the kit we've had for the last three seasons. I like the fact that it is a bit distinctive rather than just being a blue shirt with white trim. I wonder what the reaction would have been to the Bad Manners kit if we'd had a forum in those days? However, I'd really like us to do something really funky like the new Marseille shirt (below) which has diagonal stripes (ours would have darker stripes) but, of course, flashy kits are not cheap and the club have to buy sets not just for the first team but the reserves and all the youth teams.

A couple of responses to some of the comments.

No, we don't HAVE to use Macron for the playing strips.

We went to Macron because they offered the best deal - price and quality.

As for the design issues, they have been covered in the official announcment on the website.

It just doesn't look like a football shirt to me. I don't like the blue used. What happened to the blue we used in the conference? I'm not sure if the club wanted to go for a retro look or a pre war look or combine the both, but either way it really doesn't work. I liked our amber and black kit from a few years back but this one is confusing to look at. I understand if the club's idea was to go...actually I haven't got a clue what the clubs idea was behind it. If we wanted to go for a radical change with kit design we should have gone for blue and white halves which goes well with the Jekyll & Hyde seasons we've had over recent seasons, plus would have looked nicer.

I'm looking at the kits now and I have a major problem with the sleeves. I think a solid colour (Like OPR) would make the kit look smarter instead of it looking like a piece of paper with really thick lines drawn across.

And I think it's great that the new kit is drawing so much attention. I can't remember when a kit change casued so much debate.

I was a bit taken aback with the new kit when I first saw it, but as other people have commented, I think it will look fine once the sponsors, club badge and numbers are added. a bold move and I think most supporters will like it.

Cant say I am that happy personally, seemed a one person campaign by keeping on banging on about more white in the kit, and what will happen about " I never felt more like singing the blues" have we got to change the words to "hoops" or "blue and whites" ?

Bunch of girls! I bet you haven't put as much thought into 'strides' or 'slacks' to 'step out' in Margate tonight!

I was with the last post until the last dreary, predictable word.

Fact is, I'd rather not be compared with Auntie QPR, but lets face it, its a departure from the last few seasons, so isn't that what we're after on the pitch as well if its symbolism you're after?.

I suspect that when we gain promotion at the end of the season, no-one will be saying "But it is a hollow victory, considering the pattern of cloth on the backs of these 11 fine warriors. We should remain in the Ryman Prem until we have learned our lesson and play in mainly Royal Blue. Less White and definitely NO hoops next season and we will have earned our progression!"

And in the absence of automatic promotion, all you doom merchants can call for the head of the Sporting Apparel Procurement Executive, rather than the Club Manager!!!

I think we are forgetting the sentiment behind it, that is a new era for MFC. We have non leagues best manager and are moving forward so a new kit was imperative imo. I love it as an MFC kit, just have to disassociate it with the Premier Leagues relegation fodder and everything is ok. Loving the away kit, a bit of heritage with the amber and black.

Received and understood GT. Apologies. Your posts are usually balanced. The last para was meant as banter.

I've become accustomed to tutting rather than posting, but the 'unfortunately' tagged on the end of the DBB post required a response, which was (wrongly) blanket. His was a good post, if that word had been omitted.

Two lessons learned:

1. People that broadly agree can be miles apart.

2. A throw away comment can be misconstrued and hurt feelings.

Just ask the wife...
