Well what can you say? We play s**t but still manage to win. That's a good thing. But the negative far outway the positive.
It seems that after we have a big game and lose, (Burnley & Yeovil) we play crap in our games for about two weeks after!
Yesterday was a fine example. Boylan starts and gets a goal, then the rest of the game is a total bore and the Yellow Army have their hearts in their mouths as Maidenhead begin to attack. Yesterday Canvey didn't have a midfield (where was Miller?) Tilly was poor, and should have been subbed instead of Parms.
I think Matt's match report summed the game up pretty well. Read it here
We are far from top form and Gravesend will just play with us even if they aren't on form! Harrow Borough will be another crap game, but hopefully Spencer Knight will get a hat-trick against his old club.
Pumpkin

tsk tsk so negative.. you have been spoilt by sucsess.. to expect maidenhead to roll over at home after running the fleet close the week before is expecting to much.. our midfield wasnt the best but then they didnt let us play, credit to them for that... i think (if you can criticise a team that has won 5 and drawn 1 out of the last 6 games) that all we are missing is a bit of snap.. the build ups are giving a defence minded opposition to much time to reorganise and we spend a bit to much time passing it around outside their area and getting caught a bit short on the break.. i dont think thats a tactical failing we have played attacking football all season, but when a few players are below their best (after what we are used to) it looks a bit sloppy... in conclusion, so far this season we have nothing to moan about, not one thing, we expect to win every game 3 nil and for the opposition not to have a shot, we didnt play well on sat but we won a tricky away game.. if we beat harrow 1 nil in a crappy game i will be happy, but im sure anytime now it will all click again, its that extra half second quicker that makes the difference when things are working...

For all the possession football we play, at times we look like throwing it away when being hit on the break. Teams such as Gravesend, Yeovil, have punished us as they have good finishers also. It makes you wonder tactics wise, to unlock a 10 man defence, should you let them play a little, so they progress up-field more, then hit them when they don’t have so many behind the ball when they are opened up. I just hope that we are more cautious against Gravesend, maybe defend tighter and hit them on the counter. Play Greggors and then have either Boylan/Vaughan as a start and sub combo and run their guts out.

Let's forget the "good versus evil" theories here.

Good or bad play, the fact is that we seem to pull out the right result - i.e we may not be at our best, but we're better than the rest on the day.

The simple mathematics are that we have 8 league games left. If we win them all then we have a potential 106 points AND a vastly superior goal difference to Gravesend, who we WILL have beaten on the run-in and who would then also have only 106 point achievable..

cant argue with that phil, play it a bit deeper and string them out a bit, i'd just like to see the attacks have a fraction more pace to em but when balls go astray its somtimes hard to get that kind of play together, when its not working then yes play it a bit deeper, but again i think we are all being hypercritical, the fleet fans do the same when they scrape a win but dont play well,... its probably down to the fact that in a normal season either canvey or fleet would be all but promoted by now .. the extra pressure makes pretty football a bit more tricky
