Important Travel Information for Fans Travelling to Guernsey

Recommended Posts

The Chairman of GFC has been in contact and asked me to make all those fans planning on coming over to Guernsey with their teams aware of the following.

Travelsolutions are the official travel partner of Guernsey FC and they have negotiated some good deals for all travelling fans. This is likely to be better value than anything else you can find online.

The link can be found here TravelSolutions Guernsey

I would kindly ask the moderators to pin this topic to the top of the forum.

Knaphill already posted this link 4 days ago. They could obviously not have been able to strike deal that suited them for an extra nights stay, why don't Guernsey F.C. use their power to strike the best deal possible for travelling C.C.L. Travellers. Why should it be pinned?

I must have missed that post and i've checked all the threads its likely to be in.

Guernsey have enough travel arrangements to sort out without babysitting the fans too. They have signed up with Travelsolutions to offer packages at a decent price, what more do you want?

Whatever GFC do will never be enough, I just hope there is only one Smudge meeting a twin or a clone would tip me over the edge

Lots of other people will be pleased of your help

I assume that games in Guernsey aren't called off very often for weather reasons whereas over here they can be. If 100s might come over for an away game, what thought has been given to postponements? Will clubs have to call games games off extra early if they are in doubt?

I was talking about the other way round. Will you be asking mainland clubs to do extra early pitch inspections. There were several weeks last season with no fixtures due to the snow but I'm thinking of the standard waterlogged pitches which vary from ground to ground depending on drainage and can sometimes mean very late cancellations.

yes this is an important point. last season we had pitches being worked on up to 14.00 trying to get a game on. would who the opposition is, make a difference. as we know, it can take you 2 hours to get to croydon.coffee%20%282%29.gif

It wont happen in Guernsey, if your team get to the Island they will definitely play. GFC have back up pitches of the highest standard, in fact much higher standard than Footes Lane, no team will arrive in Guernsey will arrive and not play. Whereas Guernsey may travel to the UK and not play. Again the negative side is Guernsey, you come here you will play

Wow, let me say it again. I am trying to look out for you! I am trying to point out that you guys may well make some wasted journeys if early pitch inspections are not made.

You can't say that though Guru. Only the match referee can say whether the game goes ahead or not. And they call games off at the drop of a hat these days cos they're scared of being sued. CCL refs are no exception.

Guernsey Guru - is it actually likely that games will be played no matter what? Bearing in mind the best pitch in the island should be Footes Lane and if the match can't go ahead there with a full time groundsman, what are the chances of playing matches at the other pitches (one of which is the Corbet Field i believe which isn't the firmest of pitches in the wet) when they don't have full time groundsmen and will have likely had 1 or 2 matches on them during the week?

and like the poster above said, it's the referee's choice not the club's choice as to whether the game goes ahead. As it will be a non local ref i'm not sure what their standards are in terms of playing matches. Can't be any worse than our local refs I'm sure....
