Roger Patterson. R.I.P

Recommended Posts

Horley Town Football Club is very sad to announce that Roger Patterson passed away on Saturday night.

Roger was the Goalkeeping Coach at our club for a good number of years and was also formerly heavily involved in the management / administration of our Ladies’ Teams.

Ever present at training sessions and always by the dug-out during home and away matches until he developed cancer, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and especially by the numerous players he coached.

Our thoughts and our deepest sympathy are with Roger’s family and friends and we will be paying our respects in the traditional manner at the first playing opportunity.

On behalf of Dorking FC, AND Dorking Ladies FC, I extend our condolences to all Rogers family and friends, and all at Horley Town FC.

I first met Roger a few seasons ago, though it seems like only yesterday. It was when my eldest daughter and eldest Grand-Daughter joined Horley Ladies.

I used to attend a lot of the training sessions at their ground, and as HTFCSupporter says, Roger always seemed to be at the ground doing something.

When Horley Town 1st team played DFC at Meadowbank a couple of seasons ago, Roger was there, warming their keeper up, and another chance for us to have a good old chat and put the world to rights.

I'd known for some time of Rogers battle against cancer, and after the demise of the Horley Ladies team, and the majority of them forming up with Dorking, he always followed their progress. In fact he had very recently expressed the wish to travel to Meadowbank and watch them this season. Sadly, this is not to be.

The football world has lost yet another dedicated, knowlegable, tireless club stalwart who never seemed to have a bad word for anyone.

R.I.P., Roger.

Very sad news, we had the pleasure to talk to him at every game and he made us all feel so welcome when we first came to Horley Town, Loved his chats about football and a kick about with the kids. A lovely man and will be missed.

R.I.P Roger

I've just received a phone call from the Dorking Ladies FC Secretary to inform me that Roger's funeral will be held at the Horley Crematorium (Surrey and Sussex), on Monday 25th. July 2011 at 12:45.
