I wouldn't get too excited at the moment, remember this is the first pre-season fixture against vastly lower opposition.

It will be interesting if we do switch to 3-5-2 and who will play on the wings.

Sinclair and Murphy will more than likely be the wing backs... With 3 at the back, and I'm no Steve Bateman but I would like to see Sweeney as the Sweeper/middle centre half and not marking anyone, just using his pace to clear up anything that gets behind the other 2 centre backs.... We have good options to change to a number of systems, I really do have a lot of confidence that we will go close when it comes to winning the league!!! I do think that out of the 3 central midfielders, Coyne and Byrne will be 2 of them, with the other place going to Adam Martin, Logie or Swift... I would also love to see Sinclair in a free role!!!

Not sure about 3-5-2.

Looking at it player wise, you would have

Woozley, Brown, NBH at the back, then a choice of

Sweeney, Murphy, Sinclair, Coyne, Swift, Mystery Winger, Logie, Adam Martin

6 of those 8 should be definate starters

Sweeney, Murphy, Coyne, Martin, Sinclair, Mystery winger

If you have Sweeney and Murphy doing the wing backs role and Coyne and Martin in the middle who is going to dip out, Sinclair or the new winger?.

Providing we sign the mystery winger and everyone is fit to start the season, to accomodate the players we have I can't see anything other than 4-4-2 with one of the centre backs dipping out.

I am with Cookham Rebel on this, in that you cannot say anything on here without having the forum mafia jump on you for not playing nice.

If people cant take a bit of bannter then they should not come on here.

This is all rather tame compaired to the days when Liam et al would rip the guts out of all and sundry.

As I said I am with Cookham Rebel on this and will no longer contribute to this fourm.

By the way Staines Rebel Jnr. comments are totally his and are not mine in any way.

Staines, I really cannot see how the forum mafia are to blame for this one. This is quite different from earlier on in the year when they tried to silence legitimate criticism of the team for fear of upsetting them.

All that has happened is a silly squabble over absolutely nothing, which could have been avoided had people taken comments at face value and not flown off the handle. I should know - I've had a fair few of them with various people on this board over the past year!

This is certainly nothing to leave the forum over.

Thing is RR, I firmly believe we should have been playing with 3 central midfielders during Bateman's 2 full seasons in charge... In Robbie Kean, Dean Clark and Paul Edgeworth we had 3 ball playing midfielders who were over run as a 2 and our defence was over exposed. In Coyne, Logie, Byrne and Swift you again a pairing of ball playing midfielders who like to get forward again leaving our defence exposed. 3-5-2 would suit our play better and if I'm honest, if we line up 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 more often than not, the play offs beckon again, play 3-5-2 and I firmly believe we'll take the title... Bateman has his favourites like all managers and if we line up 4-4-2 we will lose Alex Brown sooner or later, playing 4 at the back last season then signing Brown and NBH does not make sense for playing a 4 this season because NBH and Woozely will be 1st choice, Brown and Perkins will warm the bench all season, we now have too many centre backs to play 4-4-2 in my opinion and one of them will leave by September... I'm still not convinced Adam Martin will return!!!!

From what I heard Mr Sliski, the trialists names are Ben, George and Harry I think... Ben played right back and looked very useful... George is young lad from Chesham, really strong tackler... The other Trialist, think he was called Harry, came on on the left side of midfield... Decent workout, the boys looked sharp, 25 yard screamers from Logie and Murphy!!! Impressed with Fred Cummings and how he seems to have worked on our midfield and forwards closing down when we don't have the ball, they were not running around like headless chickens, instead the were splitting players and forcing them into errors... Sippetts was the 2nd sub, only 13 players available, the remainder are on holiday or recovering from injury!!!

The right back was Ben Sturgess. Looking at his details from Flackwell Heath's web-site he is a midfielder.

Also looking at the photos of the game, if that's Fred Cummings (the one that looks like he's escaped from the scrubs  ) he looks pretty scary and not to be messed with.

Yes I agree, Cookham, about having three centre midfielders. I just wouldn't have Shaun Byrne in my starting three. If they were all fit and ready to play, my side for the first game of the season, if playing 3-5-2 would be Fanner in goal,

three centre halves right side-Sweeney, middle Woozley, left side NBH. Right wing back Sinclair, Left wing back Murphy.

Sitting in front of the back three in the centre, who would only move between the outside of our penalty area and the half way line would be Steve Perkins as our holding midfielder,in a similar role to what Danny Bailey played in one of our conference years. I would then plump for Adam Martin and Stuart Swift as attacking midfielders.Of course Adam Logie, Paul Coyne,Sam Bateman and Shaun Byrne could play in the midfield but to start with IMO I would start with the two I've named.

Up front I would go with Danny Burnell and Adam Logie[due to his height, eye for goal and nuisance value].

Subs would be Aaron Couch[if we've got him], Alex Brown, Jamie Jackson,Sean Sonner and Paul Coyne.

Personally, I have no problems with and have welcomed Cookham Rebel and his 'predictions' because IMO they have livened up what would have been a very boring forum.

As I've said before they are what they are, predictions/rumours and only fools would take them as gospel and if they don't come true, so what, no harm has been done.

Hear,hear,Reading Rebel !

Cookham Rebel was the first to post up the team who played yesterday and give his honest assessment and then he gets slagged off by the father and son double act, who somehow think they know best.

Look, people, a fans forum is all about fans opinions [stating the bleeding obvious ! -sarcasm]. It's not about being offensive to each other, if you want to be insulting I suggest you go back in time to your infant playground and leave the grown-up's to use this forum for intellectual talk.

I would say in the spirit of mediation, that Cookham Rebel and Staines Upon Rebel both touched upon good points.

IMO you can never tell a lot from pre-season games but it does give you a chance to run your rule over new players and differing formations. I would say that a 3-5-2 ,given the signings, looks a strong possibility. However, the beauty of our squad is the adaptibility we have, in that the team can easily change to a 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4--2-1--3 etcetra, etcetra. I feel that Steve Bateman knows this and realises that he has cover for nearly every position. He's also got continuity, given that most of the squad are staying and starting the season. I think this is hugely important for Steve Bateman's third crack at winning the title.

Good to see Gary Sippetts still around. His experience and know-how could be useful,if he gets himself fit, especially as we need a somewhat taller forward, although I wouldn't say Gary is the sort of player, I would be looking for up at the front, currently, given his age and heading ability.Certainly handy to have him around, though.

Cookham Rebel, thanks for your information on the triallists. I can now look out for them at the Holyport game. I have enjoyed your comments, banter and general discussion threads,so please don't give up on this forum, we always need rationallists on here !

gary sippetts was just helping out ,due to the lack of bodies on the slough bench, he has no intention of playing this season due to work committments his words. he only came down to see some mates .
