I'm done with this forum, you state an opinion and get abused.... It's a discussion, rumour forum not a law forum where everything said has to turn out to be the truth... Too many sarcastic and unhappy people on here... Good luck all

Cookham, don't take it to heart, every forum has em.

As far as I'm concerned and I'm sure I speak for a lot of the other forumites, you and your predictions/rumours are welcome on this forum anytime.

From what I heard Mr Sliski, the trialists names are Ben, George and Harry I think... Ben played right back and looked very useful... George is young lad from Chesham, really strong tackler... The other Trialist, think he was called Harry, came on on the left side of midfield... Decent workout, the boys looked sharp, 25 yard screamers from Logie and Murphy!!! Impressed with Fred Cummings and how he seems to have worked on our midfield and forwards closing down when we don't have the ball, they were not running around like headless chickens, instead the were splitting players and forcing them into errors... Sippetts was the 2nd sub, only 13 players available, the remainder are on holiday or recovering from injury!!!

I think the Ben is Ben Sturgess, according to Twitter a friend of Danny Burnell who i think has played for Flackwell Heath.

How did Alex Brown do for his first game for Slough?

Cookham rebel don`t stop posting on here, I find that yours are very informative posts, do what I do and just scroll down every time you see something about a post from staines rebel he likes to throw his toys out the pram at least once a week and try and get attention, just ignore him he will soon go away! Its not so long ago he threw them out the pram because steve bateman didn`t phone him up personally and tell him of new signings first, the audacity of our manager telling the newspaper first.

Alex Brown looked calm and assured after a nervy start RR. Winning headers without jumping haha... Could be fireworks at set pieces this season with Brown, NBH and Woozely in the team!!!

Just so you all know, I overheard 2 of the players saying about the 3-5-2 formation and that it is more than likely how we will line up or NBH will go up front...

Personally, I have no problems with and have welcomed Cookham Rebel and his 'predictions' because IMO they have livened up what would have been a very boring forum.

As I've said before they are what they are, predictions/rumours and only fools would take them as gospel and if they don't come true, so what, no harm has been done.

Hear,hear,Reading Rebel !

Cookham Rebel was the first to post up the team who played yesterday and give his honest assessment and then he gets slagged off by the father and son double act, who somehow think they know best.

Look, people, a fans forum is all about fans opinions [stating the bleeding obvious ! -sarcasm]. It's not about being offensive to each other, if you want to be insulting I suggest you go back in time to your infant playground and leave the grown-up's to use this forum for intellectual talk.

I would say in the spirit of mediation, that Cookham Rebel and Staines Upon Rebel both touched upon good points.

IMO you can never tell a lot from pre-season games but it does give you a chance to run your rule over new players and differing formations. I would say that a 3-5-2 ,given the signings, looks a strong possibility. However, the beauty of our squad is the adaptibility we have, in that the team can easily change to a 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4--2-1--3 etcetra, etcetra. I feel that Steve Bateman knows this and realises that he has cover for nearly every position. He's also got continuity, given that most of the squad are staying and starting the season. I think this is hugely important for Steve Bateman's third crack at winning the title.

Good to see Gary Sippetts still around. His experience and know-how could be useful,if he gets himself fit, especially as we need a somewhat taller forward, although I wouldn't say Gary is the sort of player, I would be looking for up at the front, currently, given his age and heading ability.Certainly handy to have him around, though.

Cookham Rebel, thanks for your information on the triallists. I can now look out for them at the Holyport game. I have enjoyed your comments, banter and general discussion threads,so please don't give up on this forum, we always need rationallists on here !

I am with Cookham Rebel on this, in that you cannot say anything on here without having the forum mafia jump on you for not playing nice.

If people cant take a bit of bannter then they should not come on here.

This is all rather tame compaired to the days when Liam et al would rip the guts out of all and sundry.

As I said I am with Cookham Rebel on this and will no longer contribute to this fourm.

By the way Staines Rebel Jnr. comments are totally his and are not mine in any way.

If nbh was employed as a target man we are sorted up front :)

Not necessarily, it depends who you're playing against. He is certainly powerful and can header a ball but fleet of foot and sharpness isn't his strong points. You'll not going to beat some of the better organized defences just by putting a big man in the box although used sparingly it can work a treat. If used too many times, teams get to know it and it just becomes a laboured ploy.

I hope we are far more adventurous and different with set-piece play this year.Too often last year we played passing football without having a shot at goal and our free kicks and corners were just hoofed balls, aimlessly hit towards the goal.

I hope Fred Cummings has some improved ideas on this to his predecessor, and that the players are allowed to try a few novelty ideas rather than the usual mundane set-piece.

You should re-read what you said about Cookham Rebel, which started this silly, inane argument off. Your definition of banter is a very strange one, if slagging off Cookham Rebel in such an offensive way, is your idea of comraderie/banter.

No one wants to stop you voicing your opinion on our teams performance, managerial tactics etc but surely you can see the damage that people can cause by being rude and insensitive to other fans opinions. As they are just as entitled to voice their ideas, as you are yours.

It's done now Staines, no hard feelings...

I just cannot see Bates leaving Brown, Woozely or NBH out of the team so 3-5-2 is the likely option... What was interesting yesterday was when our full backs got the ball they were encouraged to play it into the corners to turn the opposition, I'm my opinion that is the best option with Burnell, Sonner and Abbey up front as all 3 are quick and not the greatest at holding the ball up... I was amazed it didn't kick off though, in a normal game, Crawley Green would have had 3 or 4 sent off, some of their tackling was horrendous and it led to Sonner, Coyne and Logie dishing out their own brand of dangerous tackling, we have footballers in our team and for the 1st time yesterday I could see why our players get so wound up...

Regarding the winger, none of the players there yesterday knew who he is, with that in mind, it may well be Aaron Couch as he is friends with Jacko and Swifty.

Charlie Fanner had a shocker with his distribution yesterday and I'm still unsure that we are well covered in that position...

This happens a lot in pre-season games, regarding the tackling, due to the disparity between levels. Crawley Green are not much higher than park football. It was the same last year at Penn and Tylers Green and it would be no different if Slough were playing against a professional team.Timing the tackles and the speed of players have to be taken into account.

That's why it's good they are called friendlies! but regardless, no footballer at any level wants to be shown up and made a fool of, or as a team be beaten.

I wouldn't read too much into this game,Cookham R, over the years I've watched loads of pre-season games and you can never tell how your starting league side will perform. One year we never had any pre-season games and yet we won our first four league games.Another year,we won all 8 of our pre-season matches and preceded to lose our first four league games. So you can't analyse too much from these matches.

As mentioned before by someone, it's more about players getting fit and working on team patterns and also for the manager to see if the players are adaptible to play out of their usual position.
