Any truth in the rumour I heard yesterday in Dorking Town centre that 'Wanderers' have lost their sponsor, TSF ?

I'll ask for you tommorow if you like :coffee (2):

it is old history, but if the club had been removed Dorking would still have had a football club at Meadowbank.

It all goes to the heart of what constitutes a football club.

MVSCR clearly have a dedicated bunch of people and good footballers. do they have supporters as such? exc wags uncles etc, do they trot out from Sutton each week to Cobham? Fair play if so.

Similar with Bookham. Why groundshare at Meadowbank when they have a ground in Bookham? Just to play one division higher?

Why not excel at a level you can genuinely sustain?

If it was Dorking Town FC starting life afresh in div 1 of ccl it would still be Dorking, but probably not if it was Dorking Wanderers

( no offence meant to the board etc. of either club)

In terms of supporters we do struggle with getting local support as you would expect when you move a team out of the area.

Its something that you can really only build when you have a proper home, but then again alot of the away games I went to last season apart from chertsey had very few supporters so I guess we are not alone on that\ front.

And to answer your question most of the people involved with the club do all travel out from the sutton area.

I do find it funny for someone that is against groundsharing and make the comments about Bookham above im sure Dorking are more than happy from the income that Bookham gives them from groundsharing that helps keep Dorking afloat and to help with the debt.

to be clear Im not connected with Dorking FC officially or financially, I am a supporter.

Im sure Dorking fc LTD and Bookham are happy with the arrangement else it wouldnt continue.

Personally Id rather see a reserve/youth side playing there every other week than Bookham, and have Dorking find the funds from elsewhere.

Why should Dorking choose who can progress groundwise and who cant?

Lets say Bookham go down to Elite and return home

Vacancy at Meadowbank.

Dorking Wanderers, MVCSR, Reigate Priory and Guildford apply.

Makes the board/owners kingmakers.

and by the way you can apply that to any club with a decent ground grading.

Like Worcester Park ? - some posters would then accuse you of blocking a promotion place

Ok it seems we have some confusion with the details.

We originally had a pitch off Sutton Common Road but you cant call your team a Road lol so we called the team Sutton Common Rovers.

In terms of groundsharing our situation was unfortunate and not by our own choice which is different from other teams that share.

If Sutton council had helped us back when we was still in Sutton we would have had no need to move out to River Lane in Leatherhead and would have stayed in Sutton.

Sutton council was only interested in Sutton United and Carshalton Athletic and was very unhelpful which was dissapointing seeing as we had been running in the area for over 25 years at the time and was a very succesful sunday club with ambition to have a crack at saturday football.

We had 2 choices we either sit in Sutton and never be able to progress under the Council due to ground gradings ect (and only ever be able to go as high as the Surrey Elite) or we seek a new venue where we could develop it and put all our effort in to it.

So our search lead us to River Lane where only a youth side called Mole Valley Predators played there and we had the perfect Senior teams to look at merging with them to create one whole new club, they were 100% behind merging the 2 clubs into one.

Whilst we was at river lane we put up new fencing, turnstyle, painted and decorated the place and even started to build 2 new stands one seated and one for standing.

The ground passed its grading for the CCL premier and all the work was done due to the senior sides of Mole Valley SCR FC.

We then find out that a certain person from Mole Valley Predators who I will not name went behind our back and got into bed with leatherhead FC.

They where also having problems with the council which we was unaware of and before we knew it we had to leave River Lane and wouldnt you believe it there is now Leatherhead Predators Youth, its a complete waste of River lane making it only a youth base for Leatherhead FC and some where their reserves can play.

As you can imagine I have no love for Leatherhead Fc and im sure in time what goes around comes around. Karma lol

So we were homeless with only weeks till the start of the season and thanks to Cobham Fc we can continue to play in the CCL and we are grateful to them and the league for seeing that none of the above was our fault.

I remember officials visiting River Lane when we was doing all the work there through all weathers and they couldnt believe how much we had done in the short space of time we had.

So well done to South Park for what they have and what they are doing but without the support of your Local Council its impossible to do the so called works which we have done once and have nothing to show for it.

I love all the groundshare haters on here they do make me laugh because we wouldnt groundshare if we didnt need to.

Its not as if we have a choice, well the only current choice we have is to drop back out of the CCL and waste all the hard work we have done to get the club where it is today and again I must stress its all been done on a ZERO BUDGET.

TSF - you might have one of the oldest clubs in Surrey but you of all people should know that if the council had their way you would be out of your ground and groundsharing too.

so in future spare a thought to clubs like mine who are really doing it the hard way and really want to get our own ground and are not as lucky as you are.

So is it true you are paying players at Mole Valley this season frustin?

As far as im aware we are not paying players again this season but seeing as im not directly involved with the 1st or reserve teams this season I cant be 100% sure if thats changed but we havent been able to afford to in the past.

No we are not paying players at mvscr. We are doing our utter best to get the foundation right at the club so we can build for the future.

Dorking Under 18's, (Youth), do play at Meadowbank.

In fact, it's pretty much up to capacity with DFC, DLFC, Bookham FC and Under 18's !

  • 3 months later...

with respect to MVSCR and RPV, it would be an absolute disaster if Ash Utd who were the best team in the division for many years, were to get relegated. I do hope they turn it around!

I agree JJ so what's happened to Ash?

Always think there are too many sides around here all after the same players.

I hate the fact that Guernsey have played a prem side on the downward slope and have not had a true reflection of the prem

So now the cup draw is our fault........

We play Egham who are lying 2nd in the prem in the next round of the cup. Are they acceptable opponents for us to play ?!

HH, despite the comments that other GFC fans have made I can guarantee you that the 4-1 wictory over Ash was by no ,means a one sided or 'comfortable' victory. Ash were by far the fittest, most competitive and most technically able side to have played over here. And if they are one of the weaker sides in the CCL Prem then GFC will by no means have things their own way if they are promoted this season. When you combine the facts that Ash missed a penalty at 1-0, their keeper threw 2 into the net and the GFC keeper was named man of the match you might get a clearer picture of the match.

I don't think that GFC were at their best, but you have to give Ash credit, and i am sure that they will feel agrieved at the final score.

I wouldn't have given Tardif the man of the match ( sorry Chris ! you pulled off a great penalty save though and were your usual solid self :) ) as apart from the penalty save he didn't have much to do. My man of the match was Angus Mckay, another brilliant game by Gus, fantastic work rate.

I can only remember 1 bad mistake from the keeper when he went to catch it and got it all wrong and the ball looped over him into the net !

Ash did look pretty fit though.

You forgot to mention that Ross Allen hit the bar and we had other chances to score. We played pretty poor by our standards but we still won 4-1
