MISA Committee Meeting June 2011

MISA Committee Meeting June 2011At the recent committee meeting a number of issues were discussed which had been raised at the AGM or on the Fans' Forum. Here is a synopsis of what happened.

1. Membership Fees. The fee for 2011/12 had already been set but there was nothing to suggest that increasing the figure, £5/£3 having been in place since MISA was formed, would attract an increase in membership. Many members choose to pay more than the specified sum the balance being treated as a donation in the accounts.

2. The word 'Independent' had been included at MISA's inception on two counts. Firstly a bank account in the name 'Margate Supporters' Association' existed and the treasurer did not want any confusion to arise. Secondly at least one voice was raised suggesting that 'Independent' would show that the association was 'divorced', if you like, from the football club. We could debate for a week whether the current format shows us to be too close or not close enough to MFC! In the meantime the treasurer would grumble, or worse, if the name was changed!

3. Younger members on the committee. We did have a couple of members of 'the choir' on board a couple of seasons ago but they tended to drift away without a reason being established. Older committee members have also come and gone at regular intervals for a variety of reasons.

We would love to have a larger committee of all ages but, not just with football, non-paid committees tend to be made up of, dare I say it, pensioners who have time on their hands to attend meetings! By being on the committee doesn't mean you have to miss watching home matches. Whilst a couple of committee members do indeed scurry around during the game most of the work is before and after. Then again being on the committee doesn't commit you to helping out on match days; bringing ideas and viewpoints to the meetings would be enough. Currently members help out in different ways e.g. lottery collections, ground maintenance, boot fairs, etc. and this is very much appreciated.

4. Fund raising. It is planned to have an 'Easter Draw' in 2012 following on from the 2010 'Christmas Draw'. All we will be asking is that you buy tickets and are generous in donating prizes!

5. 'Blues News'. It has been indicated previously that publication stalled because the editor couldn't devote enough time to the magazine. This was partly true but another factor was that articles dried up with just a few regular contributions. So to kick-start the publication we are seeking a new editor who can then cajole fans into writing. Any takers?

6. If you are a member remember you can get 10% off items in the club shop, will be eligible to take part in the draw to make up the 'MISA 10' for the sponsored match later in the season and also be eligible for discount on drinks in the future (the treasurer is mulling over how best to make it work!).

I hope this helps to clear up a few of the issues raised. If anyone should like to discuss further please ring Keith Lewis, Secretary, on 01843 226963 or email (keith.lewis2008@talktalk.net)

Many thanks for reading this rather lengthy entry.

NB. Fingers crossed but it looks as if the pre-season ground improvements will be completed by the staff we have 'borrowed' from Sure Start.

The next boot fair will take place on Sunday July 17th, details as per normal. Many thanks to Ricky Simmons for his invaluable help at the last one.

Well done Harvey,This is what as been needed, people can see that issues raised are discussed and dealt with. As for ""Frankie's Nieces" Question when I was on the committee the next meeting was arranged at the previous one so, a month in advance.

This is the normal practice . . . sadly at my age, by the time the next meeting is due I've forgotten it.

If the role is just to write, edit and compile items from others then I'll volunteer (as I mentioned to Keith in an e-mail before the meeting). However I would not be the guy who tries to persuade people to advertise in said publication & would not be someone who could negotiate prices with printers. However I would be able to shout 'Blues News - get your copy here!' on a matchday.

If that's acceptable then I'm certain that I could find time to take on the role.

I have bought & enjoyed previous editions of Blues News but don't have a copy that has survived clear-outs at home, so if someone has an old copy I would be grateful if I could borrow it to see if I can reproduce a new edition to the same standard.
