Current Squad

Management

Steve Bateman

Kevin McGoldrick

(Dave Anderson, John Lawford and Roy Gumbs have left the club)

So, new Assistant Manager and Coach needed. Woozely and Perkins could fill these rolls but looking at the Express website the new Assistant Manager will be from outside the club.

Defenders

Simon Sweeney

Steve Perkins

David Woozely

Alex Brown

Nathan Bowden-Haase

Danny Murphy

Shaun Byrne and Adam Logie can also cover defensive positions.

Midfielders

Steve Sinclair

Paul Coyne

Adam Logie

Shaun Byrne

Sam Bateman

Stuart Swift

Awaiting confirmation on the signing of Adam Martin. Also, think we need another winger now that Chris Herron won't be with us for the forseeable future.

Strikers

Danny Burnell

Sean Sonner

Ben Abbey

2 new strikers needed, ideally one who is lightning quick and another who is a target man. Haven't included Tony Mendy as I do not think he will feature very often.

Looking at this current squad, 3-5-2 would suit us down to the ground.... Fanner in goal, back 3 of Brown, Bowden-Haase and Woozely, Sweeney and Murphy as Wingbacks, a pick of Paul Coyne, Adam Logie, Shaun Byrne, Stuart Swift and Sam Bateman as the 2 central midfield players and this season I would play Sinclair in a free role to run riot, with Burnell, Sonner or Abbey up top.... Of course, hopefully Adam Martin and 2 strikers will be added...

Hard to predict a formation yet though surely with more new signings on the way?

Also hard to predict a formation because we've only been informed about 1 confirmed signing i.e. Alex Brown.

As far as we know some of the other players (as mentioned on another thread) have only committed 'verbally' or on 'Twitter'.

Until we know who has actually 'signed' I'm reluctant to guess who actually will be with us next season and what formation we could play.

I would disagree that twitter is a waste of time as the commitment and comments are coming directly from our players.

I would say that for the assistant manager I would like an attack minded person. Our coaching team will presumably be SB, Woozley and Perkins who are all centre backs. We need someone who has more attacking prowess about them to balance it up.

It may have already been explained on the forum, but can somebody please explain why Roy Gumbs has left the club?

I think it's slightly worrying that we don't seem able to keep a management team for more than a few months. When Steve Bateman first arrived had Darren Salton and Lohn Lawford. Salton left after only 1 year. Lawford left a few months ago (or has he? I seem to remember it was mentioned this on the forum in early April, yet his name is still listed as a current Rebel on the official website?).

This time last year of course we got Roy Gumbs & Dave Anderson, but Gumbs has (apparently) left despite being popular with the fans, and Anderson has just left, leaving us looking for our third Assistant Manager in as many years.

And before anybody jumps down my throat, yes I know there may be valid reasons personal for these people leaving, and yes I'm aware that we've been through similar situations in the not-so-distant past. I'm just saying that it doesn't do us as a club any favours to constantly change the backroom staff becasue they can't commit due to work commitments, travel, or because a bigger club comes along.

Mark44: it makes no difference at all what anyone says on Twitter, until they sign forms to play for the club ,that is committment, until then Twitter is gossip

The squad is shaping nicely and I'm sure Steve Bateman said he was looking at 2-3 more players excluding Adam Martin,NBH and Alex Brown. Also we will have a lot of triallists in pre-season,so hopefully we may uncover a nugget from that direction [didn't Steve Thompson come via that route?]. As I've said before [yawn!] we need a holding midfielder and target man but also I'm still of the opinion that we should have at least, two to three 19 to 22 year olds in the squad. It's amazing what young legs/mobilty can add to the team.I think our midfield and defence look a little pedestrian like.

As for Tony Mendy,I would have thought he must be worth a few viewings in some of these pre-season games.Given his size,he might be good in a front three with two of our midgets!

If we aren't going to play him, then surely we should loan him to a team for a few months of regular football, not in our division, before we let him go for nothing, like we normally do.

Nathan, what can be done about that? As we all know,we seem to live in very demanding times and it's not as though, they're full-time staff. I'd be more peeved if we couldn't attract players or get a half-decent manager.Which is one problem we haven't got !

I think Tony Mendy should certainly feature in some of the friendlies. Bit hard to judge what he would be a like in a league match, as I have only seen him in

one league game, and that was the meaningless end of season game against SYCOB. Certainly one for the future I think, so worth keeping hold of.

The amount of goals Mendy scored for the youth team proves he has quality. I think we will see him coming through but we still need a target man imo

It proves he has quality at the under 18's level.

Unfortunately that's the problem we have by not having a reserve team, there is such a big gap between playing for the under 18's and playing for the first team.

SB has seen enough of Tony Mendy to know what he's about. I think the only way of knowing if he can step up is to give him some playing time in the friendlies and if neccessary loan him out to get him the experience required.

Only by giving him
